Chapter 42: In Which He Tells The Truth

Isla was currently sitting in a huge leather office chair at the CIA headquarters, tightly clutching onto Alexander's jacket that was wrapped around her as she bed sat there in her wedding dress.

Alexander was off to get some paperwork done, it was taking him a long time since Isla had been sitting there for the last hour, her leg bouncing up and down anxiously as the headquarters was busy and bring with people left and right, all working.

Plus, there was this guy who had been sitting on the desk, right beside her, asking her all sorts of questions and answering them was the last thing she felt Like doing at that moment but she still did, seeing no other choice.

To her utter relief though, Alexander finally returned at that moment, seemingly with a sandwich and bottled water in his hand.

Alexander could dearly see how uncomfortable and out of place Isla looked sitting there, but they were soon gonna get out of there.

"Bugger off Stevenson" he said, eyes hard to the intern agent sitting on the desk questioning Isla.

He was gone in a second.

Alexander dragged another chair close to Isla, sitting right in front of her and leaning forward, looking straight into her eyes.

"How are you doing love?" He asked and she leaned forward taking a hold of his hand with both of hers.

"I am kind of scared Alex, I don't know what's happening? Am I going to prison? Why am I here? Why are you here? Who are you?" Her anxiousness was getting to her as she blurted out all the questions.

"I know you're confused baby but no you're not going to prison, that's one thing I made damn sure of. Now doll I haven't been completely forthcoming during the eight months I spent with you. I was actually sent by the CIA to spy on the Gambino family and gather evidence to persecute the mafia family but I didn't plan on falling for you, I didn't know you would be the one for me and I couldn't tell you this secret because I just couldn't risk it" Alexander said and she took in the information.

"You lied to me?" That was all she could say.

Alexander's face contorted into one of worry and guilt.

"I am sorry baby, you have no idea how much I wanted to tell you but I just couldn't risk it, it wasn't that I don't trust you, I trust you with everything in me but I also know the master manipulators in these mafia family I know you wouldn't be able to withstand them if it came to that. I am sorry I had to lie to you and I'll spend my life making up for it" he confessed.

Isla's eyes softened at his confession, she could never be mad at him.

"Is my father in prison?" She asked.

"Yes, I am sorry about that and Jamerson as well but I am not sorry about him. They had to go to prison there is no way I can save Richard Gambino, the crimes he has committed as a mafia lord can't be pardoned" Alexander said.

He felt like he was committing a crime, he was after all telling her that her only family is imprisoned and he was the one behind it.

Isla was silent for a few moments after that, taking the information in, it was a lot, she didn't know whether to cry or be happy cause, on one hand, she didn't have to marry Jamerson and she could be with Alexander like she wanted to but in the other hand her father was in prison, he may not always have been soft towards her but he was still her father and she didn't wish him to be imprisoned but it was a long time coming and even she knew it.

She used to ignore her father's work, staying away from it as best as she could but even she knew of all the killings and illegal businesses that she was being ignorant to her whole life and it had been a bliss until it wasn't.

He had it coming.

"I know you did the right thing and I am happy that we get to be together but I am really sad that dad has to go to prison," she said, tears brimming her eyes as her bottom lip jutted out.

"I know I know but I promise, I'll make you so happy as we'll be each other's family baby and if you want we can visit your father whenever you want, I'll get you clearance any time baby" he consoled and she nodded sniffling.

"Hey now, don't cry doll, you'll be just fine with me, I am not gonna leave your side from this moment forward, you have my word" he promised and she gave him a little wobbly smile which he returned.

"Alright now, eat something, look at how thin you've gotten Isla, you don't do this to yourself ever again and I am gonna make sure you don't from now on" he said handing her the sandwich he'd gotten for her.

Isla hadn't realized how hungry she was until she dug into that sandwich.

Later, Alexander introduced her to Ayesha who was very enthusiastic to meet her and even gave Isla a change of clothes that she was glad for considering that the wedding dress was uncomfortable and a reminder of everything bad.

"When can we go out?" Isla asked wrapping her arms around Alexander and snuggling into his side as he signed a few more papers.

"Right now baby" he replied signing the last document and putting the pen down.

"I love you Alex" she mumbled out and each time it warmed his heartburn she said I love you.

"I love you too baby" he reciprocated as they both headed out side by side in each others embrace.

Eventually everything would sort out, important thing was that they had each other and as long as that was true they would get through it, together.
