Chapter 25: In Which She Shoots
"Do I have to get on that thing" Isla said making a face towards the wheelchair that was perched in front of her.
"You can use crutches ma'am but it's recommended that you don't strain your foot at all, it will help fasten up the recovery plus it won't be very convenient to use the stairs with crutches" Alexander put her options in front of her as the maid set up the wheelchair and put the crutches by the wall.
Isla knew that even though Alexander was being formal and had laid out her options in front of her and even though she wanted to rather take the crutches, she knew those hard eyes giving her that look, silently communicating to her that she better take the wheelchair or she would definitely hear an ear full from her boyfriend the next time they are alone.
She gave him a dirty look before saying begrudgingly "Fine, the wheelchair it is then"
"Wise choice ma'am I'll help you onto it, if you wish so" he offered.
"That would be helpful, thank you" she said and Alexander moved the chair right beside the bed before supporting her back and legs and lifting her up bridal style with ease and placing her on the chair with care.
As he did so Isla couldn't help but take a deep hearty breath in his scent, he smelled like aftershave and gunpowder no wonder the latter being from the range training her had early morning as a result of which Isla woke up alone in the morning.
This gesture of hers did not go unnoticed by Alexander as a small smug smirk tugged at the corner of his lips and he gave Isla that look that said he'd knew what she just did as she looked away with a deep blush staining her cheeks.
The maid went forward to grip the handles of the wheelchair in order to assist her young kids with it but As lexander had her halting in her steps as he said " You can leave it, I'll assist miss Gambino with the chair myself, Its my job to keep her safe and I can't trust anyone else taking her down those stairs on the chair but me"
There was truth to that considering there were many ill wishers of the Gambino family and her didn't trust anyone as they could cause Ann intentional accident at anytime, her just couldn't compromise her safety in that way.
The married nodded and stepped aside giving Alexander the room for Wheeling her out of the room.
Isla felt extremely weird and self-conscious being in that wheel chair and couldn't help but fidgeting in the chair.
"Turn that frown upside down, it's not so bad and it's only temporary, the more you rest there faster you'll be out of that chair" Alexander said noticing her damp mood only loud enough for her to hear.
"But what am I gonna do in this thing the whole day?" She sighed out as Alexander wheeked her to the dining room where her breakfast was waiting for her.
"How about... I teach you how to shoot? You don't need to be standing up for that and you would be continuing with your training, what do you say" he suggested and the idea lit up Isla's face, it sounded cool to learn how to shoot a gun, it was like she was the only one in this estate who didn't know how to.
"Yea that's a good idea, I've always wanted to learn how to use one" she replied even though she knew if it ever came to using it on someone she would chicken out.
The idea of her holding a gun somehow sounded so very hot to Alexander. Don't get him wrong he loved his sweet, lovable girlfriend but there was something definitely erotic about her holding a gun, however, he kept that thought to himself, not the time, not the place.
Instead, he offered her a small smile.
He took Isla to the shooting range he had just trained with the men at in the morning with the cardboard body targets lined up in front neatly in front. Someone probably replaced them considering the last time he left them, they were full of bulletholes.
"You were here in the morning right?" Isla asked looking around, she was rarely ever in this part of the estate.
"Yea" was his short reply as he got the noise cancelling ear muffs from the table beside them where they were lined up.
"You good at it?" she asked looking up at him eventhought she had an inkling that he was probably great.
"I am... pretty decent" he replied with a slight smirk.
"Show me" she demanded with an excited glint.
"Sure, let's put there on first though" said pulling the ear muffs on her head, over her ears and then put his on.
He took out the gun that was tucked into his holster and moved beside Isla's chair, fixing his grip and aiming it at the target, it came as second nature to him as hr shot bullseye on each target, one on the forehead, another on the heart and then the last one clean through the chest.
Clicking the safety back in place he looked back down towards Isla and saw her looking at the targets with her mouth agape and then up at him with wide blue eyes.
"Will I be that good once you teach me? cause that was awesome" she asked practically bouncing in her seat.
"Well, that really depends baby, I have had a lot of trainig and practice, but I'll give my best at teaching you" he reassured.
"Alright, let's start then" she said reaching out for the revolver in his hand but he pulled it back.
"Hold your horses love, I need to teach you safety first and how to handle it before we get on to the shooting part" he chuckled and she gave him a sheepish smile as he started explaining her how to take off the safety and how to grip the gun so that the pressure won't end up hurting the wrist.
Once Isla got a hold of how to properly grip the gun, load it and take of the safety as well as set her aim, she was ready to get shooting.
"Okay, you got your aim set, now pull the trigger, love" he whispered in her ear kneeling down beside her wheel chair and with that said she pulled the trigger and a shot rang out through the range making her flinch.
They looked at the target and she was only a few inches away from the bullseye.
"Good effort baby, it's not bad for first time, try again and with practice I have no doubt you'll get great at it" he said encouragingly.
A half an hour passed by into training and they were going to go for the last few rounds but were interrupted.
"Isla, little bird what did you do to yourself? how did this happen? I came as soon as I could" Richard Gambino voiced his concerns as he unexpectedly showed up, rushing to his daughter's side, seeing her in the wheelchair.
"It was an accident, I was trying to get my scarf back from the tree as the wind blew it on the branch and my foot slipped and the next thing I knew, I was on the ground but I am okay now, I'll be fine in a few weeks" she told him with a reassuring smile.
"Darling you have to be more careful, you hurt yourself a lot, you need to take care" Richard said with genuine concern as he placed a kiss to her temple before pulling away.
"Sir" Alexander curtsied and Richard nodded in return.
"I see, you're teaching her to shoot, that's good, carry on then and you Isla, I need you to rest a lot, take care of her and I'll tell the staff to be extra tentative towards her as well" Richard said directing the least orders towards Alexander before taking his leave, Alexander was going to do so any ways.
"Your whole scarf thing really worked out Alex" Isla said and Alexander nodded, shrugging it off before quickly stealing a small kiss from her.
