Chapter 24: In Which He Cares

"Oh thank god you came back I thought you were tired and left for the night" Isla breathed out a sigh of relief as she saw Alexander swinging a leg inside her room from the window.

She felt too jittery to fall asleep and there was no way sleep would come easy to her without him especially not this Nigel and especially not when she had gotten so used to sleeping on top of him, all warm and snuggly.

"You really think I would leave you all alone, tonight of all nights? I would die worrying about your baby. You've already given me several heart attacks today to at least last a lifetime I am not letting you out of my sight if I can help it" Alexander said talking a seat beside her on the bed.

She blushed at his comment as he lovingly and really stroked her cheek with the pad of his thumb, still flushed from the crying.

"We both seem to get injured lately, one way or another her huh?" she made a slight joke to let lighten the mood but her getting hurt was anything but funny to Alexander as he eyed the casts wrapped around her foot and arm.

"I can bear the pain of getting injured myself but seeing you hurt unbearable baby" he said with such sincerity and meaning that no matter how cheesy it sounded, it tucked at her heartstrings.

"Don't worry too much, I'll be fine in a matter of weeks" she consoled, herself as well as him.

"Damn, right you will. I will make sure of it "he replied placing a kiss to her forehead.

She knew what would come next, il would be him worrying over her constantly not letting her touch her feel on the ground and babying her more than he already does but she was so ready for it considering his attention was everything to her she craved being near him all the time and the same could be said for him.

Out of the blue, Isla's stomach made a very embarrassing sound that made her want to slip under a rock from the embarrassment while Alexander let out a guttural chuckle.

"I am guessing you haven't eaten anything?" he asked.

"No, not really, I planned on having dinner with you, whatever you were gonna have because I hadn't seen you all day long today but then ... well, this happened" she explained gesturing to her injuries.

"Right. I got in late today as well and planned on ordering take out but I decided to go look for you first since you hadn't come to the pool house by 9 and you usually would be there bythe time and the rest you know how it all went down" Alexander explained his side and Isla nodded her head.

"How do you feel about ordering McDonald's?" he suggested and her eyes lit up as she vigorously nodded her head making him laugh a little al her excitement.

"Alright then, I'll order and get it from the gate when it arrives" Alexander said pulling and his phone.

"A lot of chicken nuggets please and I'll take mountain dew" she requested and he nodded his head of that. He would give her anything al that moment some extra chicken nuggets were a very small demand to make.

While he ordered the food Isla eyed the glass of water sitting on the bedside table that the maid had brought in just a while ago but was forgotten admist the doctor's arrival.

She tried to extend her hand and get the glass but her attempt was in vain as she almost knocked over the glass before Alexander steadied it as he kept his phone down after ordering.

"Careful there, let me help you out with that" Alexander picked up the glass from the glass from the table and brought it to her mouth, slightly raising her head.

She greedily gulped down the water, she didn't even realise how thirsty she had been until she drank the glass full.

"Do you want me to get more?" Alexander questioned seeing how thirsty she was.

"Nope, I am good" she replied with a heart warming smile that he couldn't help but return.

After a while of comfortable silence where Alexander just sat and held her Isla before she spoke.

"Alex?" she said her voice a little above a whisper.

"Mhmm" she had his full attention.

"You do so much for me and I know you love me but I don't understand why? am I really worth all the trouble? cause like you can easily find another gorgeous girl who you wouldn't have to protect all the time and you could be out in public with her and-" Isla's insecure rant was cut off as Alexander places his lips on hers and heartily kissed her, effectively shutting her up.

"You are one of a kind Isla, you're no doubt the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes on but not only that love, you have the most giving and selfless heart heart, you have so much power in your hand but in no way do you abuse it, you're the most kind hearted person in my life and baby it's not your fault that you were born into this life but at least unlike all that surround you, you have no blood on your hands and that is nothing to feel ashamed of or bad about, your selflessness and kindness are the two most attractive qualities in you and it's my honour to protect you, keep you safe, keep you clear of the consequences of this mafia life as much as I can. Baby I love you and you're worth all the trouble in the world and more" Alexander's words were said with such intense honesty that Isla couldn't help the moisture that dampened her eyes.

She had someone who loved her endlessly and in that moment she felt like the luckiest girl ever.

"I love you too, very very much" Isla said cupping his stubbly cheek and drawing him down to place a chaste kiss that he welcomed.

Soon enough Alexander got a message from the gate guard of an order by his name and he snuck out of her window, coming back with the two big paper bags with the fammiliar yellow M on them.

He placed the bags on the side table before helping Isla sit up straight.

"I really have to depend on you for almost everything the now huh?" she muttered out frowning to herself, she liked the closeness but it still bothered her to be helpless.

"It's only for few weeks and I don't mind at all, I quite enjoy being close to you and doing things for you. I f it were up to me I would do everything for you injuries or not" Alexander said offering her a warm smile.

"I like being close to you as well" she snuggled closer making him let out a small chuckle.

Alexander took out six boxes of chicken nuggets, fries and five big macs.

"Those a lot of big macs" she commented.

"I eat a lot baby" was all he said making her giggle, it was no wonder he ate that much, he was a big guy.

He unwrapped the burger for her and brought it to her mouth as she took a bite out of it.

"I can hold it Alex" she said reaching for the burger with her good arm.

"You sure? I don't mind baby" he asked and she nodded her head with a smile as he handed her the unwrapped burger and she started eating only occasionally asking him to further unwrap it for her.

After their stomachs were satiated with fast food and Alexander had hid any evidence of Mc Donalds, Isla let out a big yawn making him look at her in amusement.

"Very tired are we?" he teased and she blushed.

He noticed she was still in her jeans and top which would be very uncomfortable to sleep in, if it was any other day she would be in his clothes by now.

"You wanna change?" he asked and she nodded her head, jeans were uncomfortable to sleep in.

"I have pj's in the second drawer of the closet Alex can you please get it for me?" she asked.

"Sure thing, love" Alexander was already on his way inside her walk in and he returned with her lime coloured silk pjs.

"I'll help you change" he declared going for the hem of her top before she stiffened her arms making him stop as he looked at the crimson hue on her cheeks making her look down shyly.

"Oh come on doll, don't get all shy on me now baby, you know I have already seen every exquisite inch of you, I promise not try anything that's unless you want me to" He smirked at the end. He found it completely endearing how she was still shy with him.

His comment made her blush even more but he was right, he had seen it all so nonetheless she let him take off her shirt and his eyes lingered on her impeccable body for a few seconds as he couldn't help himself before he slipped her silk night time attire on her .

He got comfortable beside her and pulled her close like usual before flicking off the light switch.

He was happy taking care of her.
