Suzanne opened her eyes slowly, feeling the damp and cold ground beneath her body. The place she was in was an old abandoned building, with dirty and crumbling walls, and the air was thick with a musty, moldy smell.

A shiver ran through her body, and she began to tremble. The memories suddenly assaulted her, filling her mind with images of what had happened in the company building.

Screams, shrieks, and a deafening noise echoed in her head. The air became increasingly dense and gritty, making it hard to breathe. Valery, the red-haired woman beside her, yelled that they had to get out of there. Suzanne, still confused, let herself be dragged by her, leaving just before a column fell and injured Valery's leg.

“Go!” Valery shouted desperately. “Leave me here and save yourself!”

But Suzanne couldn’t leave her there after Valery had saved her life. Ignoring the pain and exhaustion, she found a lever and used it to lift the heavy wall that trapped Valery. The air was suffocating, and the wall was too heavy, but she managed to get Valery out and helped her walk.

“We need to call the police,” Suzanne said, gasping for breath.

“No, we can’t,” Valery replied, shaking her head. “We’d get in trouble. I know a safe place. We’ll see how to call Nathan later.”

Suzanne looked at her distrustfully, but accepted only because Valery was injured. They stayed in the place Valery knew, an old abandoned factory, and Suzanne complied when she asked her not to move. However, when Valery didn’t return after some time, Suzanne began to worry terribly. She tried to leave through the rickety door, but realized it was locked.

“Where are you, Valery?” Suzanne whispered, her voice full of despair.

Days passed, and Suzanne began to lose hope. Each attempt to escape left her more exhausted and hungry. The place felt like a prison, with its dirty and dark walls closing in on her. The loneliness and despair began to consume her.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps. She hid fearfully, thinking her noises had attracted some thug or vagabond. Her heart pounded, and her breathing became erratic.

“Please, let it not be anyone dangerous,” she thought, feeling the desperation consume her.

Figures emerged from the darkness, only their shadows visible at first. Suzanne held her breath, paralyzed with fear. But as they came closer, she saw they were police officers. A sigh of relief escaped her lips.

“Mrs. Suzanne Strong?” one of the officers asked.

“Yes, that’s me,” she replied with a trembling voice.

“We received an anonymous call reporting that you were here. They were looking for you,” the officer explained.

Suzanne immediately thought of Valery and smiled gratefully, despite her delay in reporting her whereabouts. She also wondered where Valery was and if she was okay, but shook her head to clear those thoughts. The most important thing now was to see her babies and Nathan.

“Are my children okay? Is my family okay?” she asked, her voice breaking.

“Your babies are well cared for. Your father-in-law, Jarek Strong, has taken care of everything,” the officer responded, trying to calm her. “But... your husband, Nathan, is in prison for killing his father.”

Suzanne felt the ground open beneath her feet. Her eyes widened, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Nathan killed his father?” she whispered, unable to process the information.

“Yes, ma’am. But first, you need to come and make a statement. Then we’ll take you home,” the officer said gently.

“I want to see Nathan, please. After seeing my children, I need to see him,” Suzanne implored, her voice full of desperation.

“We’ll take you to your children first, ma’am. I promise you can see your husband afterward,” the officer assured her.

Suzanne nodded slowly, trying to assimilate everything that was happening.

Though her mind was full of questions and worries, the most important thing now was to reunite with her children and make sure they were okay. Then, she would face whatever was necessary to see Nathan and understand what had happened.
