Chapter 11
"Son, you didn't tell me how you were able to capture Augustus Frederick's daughter", Drew said.
"It was on the night of the ball, the full moon day. I just had to do it", Eric said.
It was late into the night and all was quiet. Liyah was asleep at a far corner within the cave she shared with Eric. He knew Drew had a lot of questions concerning her abduction but something still held him back from asking.
"Do you think you can fight Augustus Frederick, I mean there are still so many things you don't know about him and I'm sure he wouldn't hesitate to destroy you the moment the opportunity presents itself", Drew said.
"Yes, I know about all that and I'm ready to take him one on one if it came to that. This man hurt me Drew, i just can't let it go. He took my only source of happiness, a woman I loved with my whole heart", Eric croaked.
He was close to tears now and this was something that usually happened especially when he was talking with Drew. With him, he had all his barriers broken. He could be himself without covering up or lieing about how he felt.
"It's okay Eric, you don't have to talk about it", Drew smiled.
He placed a warm reassuring hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort the young man who had been through a lot within the last few months.
"Sometimes, it's so hard to think about her when I know she'll never come back. She's gone for life Drew and it's really a bitter pill to swallow", Eric sighed.
"I lost my mate too", he said quietly.
Eric stared at him, seeing the look of pain in his eyes. He didn't really know much about Drew asides him being the Alpha. His relationship and love life wasn't known to Eric but hearing this now proved to him that the old man once loved.
"What happened?", Eric asked.
"It's a long story, I'll try to be as brief as possible. Her name is Colleen and we were destined to be mates since we were young pups. One day, Augustus Frederick and his allies invaded our pack, killing all females. My mate was caught in the cross fire", Drew said.
"But why didn't you say anything, why do you prefer keeping it in when you could share this to someone who really cared", Eric said.
"It was just too much to bear. The pain of loosing her left me shattered so I can actually understand how you feel", he said.
Eric sighed, now he knew that he wasn't the only one who would be going after Augustus Frederick. At it stood, he already has a lot of enemies and Eric knew that there would be many more he didn't know about.
"So, what time should we move?", Drew said.
Eric knew he was deeply hurt by that incident and he was only trying to cover up when deep down, he was shattered.
"Drew, you don't have to cover up the pains of the past just because you've set your sight on to something. Feel free to grieve, be free to mourn if your heart is still heavy. That's the only way you can heal and move on", Eric said.
Drew sat still for several minutes. The only sound within the cave was the rustling of dry leaves from the wind. Eric sat quiet too and together, they looked at the moon, their only source of hope.
"Sometimes, I wonder why the moon goddess allowed all this to happen. Time and time again, I've asked myself why it wasn't me Alpha Frederick killed, it should have been me not my mate", Drew croaked.
Eric placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. He knew Drew was finding everything difficult especially now that he brought back what happened.
"Things happen for a reason. It's really not in our place to question the moon goddess, she alone knows why all this happened", Eric said.
Even though he's just getting used to all his features as an Alpha wolf, Eric had come to realize that the only person who had the power to create and change things was the moon goddess.
"I know but sometimes, I really don't understand her ways", Drew sighed.
"Me too and I guess that's a mystery we won't be able to solve", Eric chuckled.
He felt a bit relieved that he had talked to someone. He didn't know that was what he needed and he was greatful that he poured his heart to the one person he trusted.
"I'll move at the crack of dawn", Eric said.
"Okay, I'll gather what I need to gather for you", Drew said.
"I have to be careful, i wouldn't want to leave any trace behind on where i'm going", Eric said.
He knew he was smart and he didn't want to leave anything behind that could lead him towards help. Eric knew he needed to go back and access what he had done at the club. He knew there would be a lot of damages for this, he was glad. It would teach Augustus Frederick not to mess with him again.
"I think you need to let the girl go. She's not your target and holding her hostage would only slow you down." Drew said.
Eric knew there was sense in what he said but yet, he couldn't phantom releasing a girl who's father had destroyed his life. It was too hard a pill for him to swallow. She deserved to suffer until he though of what to do to her.
"Think about it Eric and focus your mind on what's important." Drew said.
Eric sighed, pacing about. He'd been away from his office for a long time and he needed to get back to be on track of things. He sighed yet again, staring into the sky. Eric knew it was time to let go of his girlfriend who had died. His mate was out there somewhere, he could feel it and Eric vowed to find her one way or the other. It was all he wanted to do.
"Alright, I won't go back there again. Let her go." he said.
"Good, very good." Drew said.
"I'll be going back to the club to access the area. From there, I'll be heading back to my office and my life. I've realized it's time to let go of the past and embrace the future because that's where I'm headed. Thank you Drew for all your help, I'll never forget this and i hope to repay you some day." Eric said.
Drew bade him farewell as he watched Eric leave. Eric made his way to the club, wondering what he might face. For the first time in a long while, he felt like himself once again and he knew it was time for the battle.
