CHAPTER 13
All she thought she needed was a moment.
A critical moment when his guard was down and she had made the perfect plan to move in for the kill.
Seduce him, have him make love to her and have his seed. She had been feeling fertile, had felt the heat in her and thanked the Fates, believing they had something to do with her travelling with Asher at that time. Besides, there was no man alive who had been able to resist her body and she had made herself bountifully available for him.
But she had been wrong. Asher had resisted her charms, her much sort after charm. He had made mockery of her. Her plan had fallen through, despite the use of her powers. They had been nothing compared to his but Adele watched his restlessness on that trip and planned to use it to her advantage but it had all been for nothing.
If only he had fallen into the well laid trap. She could be carrying his cub already. And if that had been done, Asher would have had no choice but to take her as his mate. Then she would have become his Luna, ruling by his side and making him happy for the rest of his days because she was the one he truly needed in his life.
The mere thought of what had transpired got Adele so angry she kicked the table in front of the sofa far into the far wall of Mark's office. The glass top cracked in several places, ready to shatter with the barest impact.
She was strong, and in her anger, she felt the adrenaline pumping through her, making her want to do damage to something, or someone. She was having trouble controlling her wolf from bursting forth and taking the elevator up to Asher's office.
To knock down the teeth of the mousy little bitch who was faking being his secretary while she was fucking him. She wanted to pull out every strand of her ugly looking hair and was certain the human was no match for her. If she took her on one on one, there was no doubt who would be ripping who to shreds.
Her friend from human resources, Liby, had told her all about how the outdated thing had gotten the job. She had obviously not deserved it but had done something to make Asher give it to her and that, she was going to find out.
And the receptionist, the only other person on Asher's floor apart from the secretary had told her about how the woman looked at Asher.
Everything she had been hearing from her friends while she had stayed away; thanks to Asher firing her, all confirmed what she already knew.
Asher loved her and still does.
That was the only explanation she had for all that had happened during their time together. He had been the perfect gentleman while it lasted. Although they had done everything from kissing to whatever can be imagined between two hotblooded wolves in their prime of life, they had never actually had sex. Asher had never penetrated her. She had been no virgin when they started dating but it had been like he was holding on to his self-control until they were going to mate before they made love. At the time, it had been frustrating and he had annoyed her with his old-fashioned ways. Probably the reason she ran into the arms of one who was willing the moment his back was turned and then, she had assumed she had nothing to lose because she never imagined he would be Alpha.
She had been with him because he had shown a little bit of interest and he was sexy as hell. When he had been dragging his feet to have sex with her, she had deemed him not worthy of her attention. If only she had been patient enough till the Alpha died and he had been marked to take his place.
But that was all water under the bridge. Now, she was in love with him, or so Adele had convinced herself to believe. All she had to do was make him realize how much he still felt for her. Also, she had to make him forgive her for the little prank she had pulled with him, sending a witless woman into his meeting.
She knew she had pissed him off.
She did not care what had been going on between them so far. She was ready to put it all behind her and move on with Asher. He could fuck and have his fill of the woman but all she was concerned about was that he belonged to her.
And the earlier the mousy secretary knew that, the better for everyone. She was going to establish her territory, going to go up to his floor and put the bitch in her place but that was going to be after she had a word with her brother.
Mark had known all about Asher's new secretary and had not said a word about her. He was supposed to be her big brother, looking out for her and helping her get what so ever she wanted but to her, he was doing a very poor job of it.
The thought got her angry again and this time, she got up from the sofa, made her way to Mark's desk and picked up one of the ballpoint pens on the desk. Then she made her way behind the desk to his chair and with all her strength, she ripped the ball pen through the chair, the tearing sound of the leather music to her ears.
"What do you think you are doing Del?!," Mark shouted as he entered the room, seeing the chaos before him. His sister turned to him and the look in her eyes made him pause in mid stride.
"My God!," the words were whispered through stiff lips. "What has gotten into you?"
Mark felt helpless as he watched her throw the ruined pen at his feet and lowered herself into his once comfy chair, which was now damaged beyond repair. But that was the least of his concern as he watched his kid sister take in calming breathes that seemed to be doing the direct opposite. She got up from the chair, clearly agitated and moved to stand before him, her hands quivering in anger.
"Del, you can talk to me," he said calmly and took cautious steps towards her. Then he tried to touch her.
"Do not touch me Mark!," she screamed at him and shook off his hand, her eyes glowing in rage. "How could you?"
"I don't know what this is all about but you can tell me so I'll correct whatever is wrong here," he continued calmly. He did not want a scene. Her shouting was enough for the both of them and he wanted to bring her voice down.
"You knew about Asher's secretary and didn't say a word to me. How dare you? You know how much I love him," she said screaming.
Mark sighed in defeat. He had already guessed the reason for the uproar was Asher but he did not know the secretary was already involved. "How did you know about her?," he asked gently then thought that was not the deal anymore. "What do you know about her?," he asked instead.
If she knew half of what he already thought was going on between Asher and Shana, his sister was going to go completely rogue.
The only reason he was back in New York was because Asher had decided to shorten their trip, for reasons unknown to Mark, or reasons he knew but was not too sure about. Normally, he would have been there to see the signing and and transfer of ownership completed before he left. It was one of the thrills of such moments he lived for. Asher did not like to leave things like that to staff but had done exactly that and had more or less bundled him into the plane and made their return flight and all through it, he had been as restless as a bride getting cold feet on her wedding day.
That morning, he had watched Asher storm into the building like the hounds of hell were behind him just as he was pulling into the parking lot and he had watched his friend make his way resolutely up, without sparing the people who greeted him a glance.
Asher was never like that, he was a hunter, always perceptive of his surroundings. Asher was behaving out of the usual and he could only think of one reason.
Shana Johnson.
"I know enough. I know she has been sleeping with my man and you've been so much of a good friend and a bad brother not to mention it to me and I'm so mad at you," she delivered, panting with anger.
Mark sighed in relief. It was better she assumed Asher was just taking his pleasures with Shana and not that he was going to mate with her like he knew.
"But that's not true. Whatever you heard, it's all a lie."
"Really?," she asked doubtfully then a look entered her eyes. Mark knew that look.
"Don't. Don't do it," he said quietly.
"Don't do what? You just said he's not sleeping with her. So..," she said as she made her way towards the sofa she was sitting in earlier and took her bag. Then she turned to face him with a feline smile.
"So what Del?," Mark asked, frustration making him fold his arms over his chest and tapping his feet.
"So you know what I'm going to do. Don't pretend like you don't." She made her way to his door gracefully.
"You are going to regret it Adele," he said helplessly.
"That's fine. I can live with a bit of regret," she replied shrugging her shoulders carelessly. "And you don't have to worry about your little sissy big brother," she said over her shoulder as she exited his office.
If his guess was right, Asher was at that moment in his office, reuniting with his secretary whom he had missed so much to the point of going crazy during the trip and knowing his sister, she was going to...
He could not imagine what was about to happen and he could not help worrying about her.
