Chapter 21

Harold was in a dilemma. His sister was in a bad situation and the only way to save her would be to get her mate. He was the only one capable of helping her and making her reach the point where she could weave and manipulate her powers without passing out or collapsing. Their bond was the final ingredient to make her teach her potential.
The problem now was that he didn't know who this mate of hers was. How was he supposed to help her like their father always said he would if he didn't know her mate?
The mate in question could be anywhere! Right now her mate could be any of the males in Damon's pack. Not like that was a big deal -given the fact that Damon's boys were well behaved. Harold didn't have a problem with his sister ending up with any of them. The problem was, he needed them right at that moment. He needed to get in touch with the male right at that moment.
He wiped a hand over his face and looked down at Emily. She was sleeping. Her body had gotten more stabilized and it wasn't cold anymore. All the heat they had put around her had finally done its work and she was almost normal again. Only she hadn't opened her eyes.
Harold couldn't sleep. His eyes stayed wide open as he kept checking on Emily over and over again. Hoping that she would at least flex a finger or move her eyelids, she remained unmoving. Only her breathing changed. It became more normal and her temperature became normal too, yet Harold couldn't find sleep. He was bothered. He was scared for his sister. Was she going to ever open her eyes? What could he do?
He stretched his eyes towards the foot of the bed and there, he saw Logan fast asleep. Logan, one of Damon's boys he had found her with. He was very helpful that's why Harold didn't kill him. He gave some good insights and he was the one who suggested they cover her up. In a way, Harold was grateful to Logan for all the help he had given to his sister.
With his help, he was able to diagnose what was wrong with Emily. If he was alone, he would have panicked more than he did. He would have lost his mind. He would have thought the worst and might have gone screaming and tearing down the council out of panic. He would move mountains for Emily. He would do whatever was unneeded to be done to bring an end to the council. He knew they were terrible people. He knew they killed his father. But he allows them to think he was a fool and that he only worked for them. But he only stayed a slave for them because he knew that if he was ever going to find his sister then it would be with them. They had spies everywhere. They watched and waited for her to come up. They had more resources and he knew that his chances were better with them. Then again, he needed a way to take away the urge he always had to kill since Emily ran away he couldn't control it anymore. The best way to kill without getting completely implicated or feeling terrible about it was to be given a reason to do it by the council. He preferred it that way and he made sure that all he killed were in one way or another guilty of a crime. He never killed the innocent. Never.
He moved his eyes away from Logan and turned to look at the mouth of the cave. The day was set. The sky was getting brighter. The darkness was dispersing. He left Emily's side gently, slipping out of the bed to go check on the fish he always burnt to mask their scent. The one he had placed overnight was no longer there. It had burnt out. And the air was starting to freshen up again and that was not a good thing.
He slowly went to the fireplace he had made and arranged more dried sticks to light up. He went on his knees and sparked out the little stick from the matchbox in his hand. He lit one of the dried sticks and bent lower to blow air into the flame to get it to ignite stronger. Slowly he blew air, his mouth forming a small hole where the air escaped from. Harold does this for a couple more minutes before the fire starts to burn bright. Then he added two fish to the fire to create his signatory masking potion.
When he was done, he returned to the bed, where Emily was still sleeping. She turned in her sleep and Harold smiled. At least she was starting to regain her energy back. He arranged the blanket over her shoulders, gently tucking her in.
Logan also stirred but unlike Emily, he woke up. He scratched his left eye with the back of his hand and suppressed a yawn. He turned his face to Harold and saw that the latter was staring back at him.
"Good morning?" Logan said, suppressing another yawn.
Harold couldn't remember the last time someone greeted him like this. He couldn't remember the last time he had this kind of normalness in his life. Ever since his father got executed, and his sister disappeared, he knew nothing about normal life. He tried to stay hidden in werewolf school but then another thing happened. He kept being in places he shouldn't have been and his urges only got stronger and stronger, until he became the assassin everyone knew him to be.
"Good morning." Harold turned to look down at Emily, hoping that he had a better life than he did.
Logan got up from his sleeping position and stretched his hands above his head.
"I should go check on my phone. Maybe I have a call or something..." He said.
Harold heard what Logan said but he misinterpreted it In his brain. How could Logan decide to just leave like that? Who would bring a phone in this hell and be comfortable about it? His demons got the better of him and he imagined, Logan, telling on their locations. He shook his head trying to clear it of the thoughts he was having but it relayed to life. It remained glued to his tongue like a leach.
"Are you leaving us? You think she won't wake up?" Harold asked as his brows rose to his hairline. Another thought told him Logan was giving up on the plan and he was going to be stranded with Emily alone.
"I wish I can leave this dump and go home to a hot bath but you know what?" Logan asked as he stiffened another yawn with a hand to his mouth.
Harold only shrugged, not knowing what it answer him with.
"That woman over there," Logan said, pointing a finger on the spot where Emily laid. "She is the one that's going to save my alpha. She is the only one who will save everyone I know, including myself. I have walked through this cursed wilderness just to find her and when I finally do find her, you are asking me if I would leave? I will never leave —not alone though. If I am ever leaving I would leave with her."
There was a ghost of a smile on his face. He was happy that he wasn't in this alone. At least he had someone to share his doubts and burdens with.
"Okay, I'll be leaving now. Don't miss me too much!" He joked blowing empty kisses in the air as he bounced out of the place.
Harold watched him walk out of the cave. He followed his movements until he disappeared under the now bright light of the sun. The day had started already and he couldn't bring himself to leave. He feared what could happen if he left and someone came to find her in such a vulnerable state?
He decided to sit still and wait. She was bound to move at a point. She couldn't just keep staying in the same condition she was in forever. It was in moments like this Harold remembered his father and wished he was here with him. He couldn't keep doing it alone. He couldn't keep pushing alone. He needed help and Maybe Logan would be that help he so badly needed.
Harold remembered how his father had told him to take care of his sister from the day he learned how to read and take care of himself. He and his dad stayed in an upper flat in the city of Fangs and his father thought him everything he needed to know when it came to eliminating someone. And he kept reminding him whenever he could that he was going to have to take care of his sister and that no one else could do it for him except himself.
At the time, Harold always wondered who this sister was. For he never grew up with her. He was always with his dad. He still could recall vividly the day he asked about her.
"Father, who is this sister of mine you keep saying I have to protect? Where is she?" Little Harold asked.
As his words dispersed in the air, a sharp knock came on the door, making everyone jump.
They all froze as they looked between one another.
"What do we do now?' Mike asked, opening his mouth for the first time. They couldn't keep going back and forth like this. They needed a practicable solution not standing and melting away in suspense.
"The only solution is that I go with you but that's taboo for the princess to leave our world before her wedding."
"You are the princess!" Jimmy exclaimed and Thompson slumped on the nearest chair placing his head in his hands.
"We are so fucked!" Thompson said
"I can lead you guys out."
They all raised their heads to look at who spoke and they were shocked to see Damon.
"No!" Sofia and Thompson screamed at the same time.
It was now the turn for everyone to face them.
"What do you mean by no?" Mike asked directing his question to Thompson.
Damon raised his brow and watched Sofia. The word seemed to have escaped her mouth without her control she didn't mean to say it.
"He is one of those human wolves. I don't trust him. What if he gives us to Carter! He might be fucking working with Carter at the moment and we didn't know about it!" Thompson exclaimed.
"Thompson, calm the hell down. If he was working for Carter, I don't think he would be in here with us. Didn't you see that other guy couldn't come through! Besides, what other option do we have?" Jimmy tried to explain to Thompson but the latter wasn't taken it.
"How the fuck am I supposed to put my life in the hands of my enemy?"
"Because you have no other choice..." Mike whispered watching Sofia, who looked like she wished to be anywhere but here.
