Chapter 46
"A mate?!"
Ridiculous. Sabine thought as she shook her head. The whole thing sounded ridiculous. Gabriel having a human mate? And not rejecting her outrightly?
It was a recipe for disaster.
"That spineless human?! What the hell is Gabriel thinking!"
She scoffed and Lyle shrugged.
He was tired. He had a long day and he would very much like to go to bed but he had to give a report to Sabine. He was sitting on a chair with his arms folded with the stuck up Vara across him sharpening her claws with the sharp end of a dagger.
Ugh. He didn't like her and from the way she looked at him she didn't like him either. But he didn't need to like her.
He just needed Sabine.
At least now she would trust him. He had gotten her the information she wanted, he couldn't wait for them to move up with their other plans.
He has been waiting years. Years for the moment his dreams would become reality.
Sabine was pacing around the room with a cigar in her hand and rollers in her hair. Mad and furious, she seemed to grow angrier with every statement he made. She seemed jealous. Of the young woman Lori and what she meant to Gabriel. He didn't know why it bothered her so much. She was after all just human, easy to break, weak. She was of no competition to a woman like Sabine.
But Sabine positively looked threatened and it amused him in some way, that a woman so powerful could be riled up by something so insignificant. It was interesting to see.
"I don't think that matters. What matters now is what you want to do with her."
He answered. Sabine swigged the glass of wine on the table in large gulps and slammed the glass back on the table with such force that it cracked.
"Do with her?! Kill her of course!"
"What else is there to do?"
She added angrily.
"I don't think we should discard her that easily. After all, she's very important to Gabriel. We should use that to our advantage."
Vara pointed out..
Sabine paused, turning her full attention on Vara. Good point, but how would the human be of use to her?
"And how? How do you suppose we do that?"
Vara leaned in.
"We should strike now, before Gabriel notices that Tony is gone."
"We have his address. We can send a couple of wolves over to raid his home and kidnap her."
She said confidently.
Sabine pondered on it. She wasn't too sure about the idea.
"In fact... I think we should strike now..."
Sabine cut in.
"But... we can't just go in and kidnap her! Gabriel must have put some sort of protection in place!"
Vara shook her head, disagreeing with Sabine.
"No. There's none. The only protection Gabriel relied on was the secrecy of his location. That was the only thing we would have never been able to find out without Tony's help."
"From what Tony said it's just like any regular house. Standard security system, staff working there and Lori and the baby."
Lyle sat up straight. If the plan was going to get him closer to his goals, he was in. All in.
"So? When we kidnap her then what?"
He asked and Sabine smirked.
"We use her to lure Gabriel. Then we kill him."
Lyle scoffed, he was a bit skeptical.
"That's a good idea. In theory. A lot of things could go wrong..."
He added and Vara glared at him. Wasn't he the one making demands a few days ago and urging them to act? And now he was wondering if it was a good idea when she was proposing a perfectly good plan?!
Vara sighed.
"This is the only chance we have."
She persisted.
Sabine nodded.
"You're right. If we wait too long Gabriel would have his guard up. He might even move her away from the address we already have. We need to do this now."
She said as she signaled to Vara.
"Get our wolves ready. I'm putting you in charge. Send them out. Make it a clean job. Grab the girl and get out."
Vara stood up from the chair, putting her knife back in it's hiding spot.
"No slipups Vara. And don't let them ever suspect it was me ."
This was a stupid idea. Lyle thought as he shook his head.
"What if Gabriel is back at home?"
"Would you fight an alpha too?"
He added and Vara shook her head.
"I wouldn't have to. Tony basically gave us Gabriel schedule. Gabriel works late. He'll most likely not be at home. If he is, we will abort the mission."
With a nod from Sabine, Vara left leaving Sabine and Lyle in the room alone.
Sabine turned to Lyle with a small smile on her face.
"For your sake I hope that all that dead wolf told you is true. Our whole entire agreement depends on how this mission goes."
Lyle narrowed his eyes at Sabine.
"That wasn't the plan."
Sabine shrugged.
"Plans changed. I've set a new one."
Lyle stood up, hitting his fists against the marble table. It cracked. Hard.
Sabine frowned.
"That was an antique."
She sighed.
Lyle growled.
"Don't you dare try and fuck me up Sabine. You asked for information regarding Lori and I delivered."
"If you even dare to change the plan...."
Sabine raised her hands in mocked surrender, faking a slight smile.
"I was joking."
Lyle calmed down and sat back in his seat.
Sabine walked over to him and ran a hand across his cheek, Lyle closed his eyes to savor the feeling.
In a flash, her hand was on his neck, squeezing tight. Lyle's eyes widened and he tried to remove her hand but her grip was too strong. He tried to wiggle out of his chair too but she had him pinned down. The pressure on his neck was cutting off his airflow and making him go red in the face.
Fuck. Even if he wanted to retaliate and use his strength on her, it wouldn't do him any favors.
"P- p-please...."
He forced the words out.
Sabine smiled. She loved it when a man begged her.
"Don't lose you ever lose your shit like that in front of me again."
"I'm the alpha here!"
She growled and pushed him away.
*****************
Lori woke up at exactly 12:03 am feeling an overwhelming sense of fear. She shouldn’t explain it, but she woke up feeling terrified.
Scared out of her mind, she rushed to the nursery to pick up Emilia and stayed in the nursery while looking out the window.
She was surprised to see Elliot outside, talking to a few men whom she had no idea who they were or when they arrived at the house.
She decided to go downstairs for some explanation.
It seemed like she wasn't the only one awake. Everybody else was in the living room, wide eyed and concerned.
Mr Gregory was in his night robe, Jenny and Sylvia were still in their work clothes pacing around the living room.
"What is going on?"
Lori asked and Mr Gregory looked startled seeing her. He rushed towards her.
"Lori! What are you doing here? Why are you awake?"
He asked and she shrugged.
"I heard some noise."
"It's nothing."
The man reassured her but she wasn't entirely convinced.
They all looked jittery, nervous too.
"Who are those men out there talking to Elliot?"
She asked and Mr Gregory smiled anxiously.
"Just security. They're guards. They're here to keep watch."
"Keep watch?! Is something happening?"
She asked and everyone seemed to glance away for a moment.
"Not really. Mr Gabriel just thought we needed the extra security so he sent them over."
"Oh..."
Lori nodded.
"Then what are you all doing here?"
She asked and Jenny shrugged.
"They just arrived so we were talking about making them something to snack on since they will be here all night."
She lied smoothly and Lori nodded.
"Do you need any help?"
She asked and Mr Gregory shook his head.
"No. Don't you worry."
"It's all being taken care of. "
"You should go back to bed Lori. It's quite late."
Jenny added and Lori nodded.
She had the strangest feeling, like they were lying to her. She wondered why they would lie to her though.
What was so important that they were hiding from her?
Did it have to the with the cult stuff Gabriel was involved in? Or was it about Tony being missing?
She wished she could talk to Elliot, maybe he would be more helpful but then again she wasn't too sure he would be. She decided to go back upstairs and stay quiet.
It would only be a matter of time before she finally figured out what was going on.
Gabriel's room at the best view of the front of the house. In fact it was the only room where she could properly see all the guards that were stationed outside. Lori went into the room with Emilia who she had roused from her sleep.
She was hungry, so Lori breastfed her while she watched the show going on outside.
She could count at least six 'guards, she didn't know if there were any more, she could only see the front of the house from Gabriel’s bedroom. Elliot briefly talked to one of them before leaving for what Lori assumed was the pool house.
The guards looked around and took strategic hidden locations. It all felt very unecessary to Lori.
And she pondered on whether or not calling Gabriel would give her some insight.
It was quite late. And he might still be coming home. He always did. Most times. She hoped he was, she didn't know what was happening.
Or what to do without him around with all the fear she was feeling.
She sighed.
Perhaps she was overreacting. There was nothing wrong.
She thought to herself as she turned away from the window and closed the blinds.
Emilia was still suckling so she sat on the bed staring at the wall.
Barely five minutes later someone was banging on the bedroom door.
She rushed towards it.
"Who's there?!"
"Elliot! Open up Lori."
He said and she opened the door.
Elliot rushed in.
He sighed in relief when he saw her.
"Good. The baby is with you."
"What? What's going on?"
She asked and he looked around nervously.
He looked nervous.
"You need to hide! They have the house surrounded."
"They?!"
Lori cried out in fear.
"Who's they?"
Elliot shrugged, his palms sweaty. He didn't know either, all he knew was that they were wolves and they had the perimeter surrounded.
"I don't know yet. Can't tell.
But stay in here in the meantime! Stay hidden!"
"We'll hold them off and make sure they don't come into the house..."
The sound of a bullet interrupted them. And Lori went still.
"What?! What the fuck was that?!"
She asked and Elliot looked at her one last time.
"Stay here!!!"
He warned and ran out of the room.
Oh God.
Oh God.
A bullet?!
What the fuck was going on?
She thought as she ran and locked the door.
Emilia started to cry, sensing her own fear, Lori rushed to her phone.
She had to call Gabriel.
