Chapter 62

Lyle didn't stay home. Not even for a minute. Twice he came and just dropped supplies and left. He also recieved weird phone calls and was being elusive. Elliot was becoming suspicious of him.

Whenever Elliot brought up the fact that they had to leave the city, he would make excuses and leave the apartment abruptly.

Finally, Elliot got tired of him and decided to follow him one day. He had enough of his evasiveness. He wanted to know what his brother was up to.

If he was at least going to run off with his brother he needed to know what he was up to. Especially when it seemed like he was hiding something.

Elliot wasn't good with tracking by scent, but he managed to do it with his brother. His brother had gone straight to a building that was few blocks away, merely a walking distance and Elliot had to wait a few minutes just to be sure his brother wouldn't suspect him.

When he finally reached the building itself, he had tracked his brother by scent.

Purely by scent.

And soon found his brother at a bar, with some men and Alpha Sabine of Sceptre Kun pack. His face had paled as he set his eyes on her. Wondering how his brother could have been so stupid.

Sabine Reinhardt?!?! Of all people?!

Did that mean his brother was trying to take down Gabriel?! Their very own alpha?

Because the only thing he knew they had in common was Gabriel. Sabine has been a thorn in Gabriel's flesh for a while now. For years. But now his brother was talking to her.

Elliot didn't want to even think of what that could possibly mean.

Had he... had he really been working with her this whole time?!

As if Lyle could sense someone's eyes on him, he looked up and found his brother across the room from him, Lyle froze. But only for a short while because in the next minute he charged at Elliot and dragged him out of the place.

"What the fuck are you doing here?!"

He spat our angrily. His breath was raggedy. It was obvious he wasn't expecting Elliot.

"I could ask the same of you..."

"What are you doing with that woman?!"

"That's none of your business... you need to leave... it's not safe."

Elliot nodded his head.

"So it was you then?! The attack... kidnapping and killing Tony..."

"I don't know what you're talking about..."

Lyle answered as his eyes darted around in nervousness. He was lying. His heart skipped a beat. Even someone who wasn't a wolf could tell that he was just lying.

God. Now he felt so stupid. All those times.... His own brother was just using him. Whatever love he pretended to have for him was probably fake.

He only dirt it to extract information from him.

"Why did you do it?!"

"Do what?! Elliot you are mistaken..."

Lyle tried to put his hand on Elliot's shoulder and he slapped his hand away.

"You can stop denying it now. I'm not that foolish."

Lyle sighed. He glanced at Sabine who seemed to be content with her phone, she wasn't paying them no mind. Probably because she knew Elliot was no threat to her.

"Let's go somewhere else... I'll explain everything!"

****************

"You kidnapped Lori?!?!"

Elliot exclaimed.

Oh this was bad. This was astronomically bad.

"Keep your voice down."

Lyle warned.

"Where is she now?"

Elliot demanded and Lyle shrugged.

"You think I'm telling you?"

"Why wouldn't you?! It's not like I can run to Gabriel and tell him now anyways. He's going to kill the both of us."

That wasn't a lie. If Gabriel knew he was somehow involved, goddess knows what he would do to them. Him in particular since he had ran off instead of going back to DC.

Now a part of him wished he wasn't so stupid. He could have gone to DC, waited for Gabriel to cool down and then come back, but now... Gabriel would only believe that he was an accomplice to his brother's crimes.

"I can't believe you Lyle... I can't believe you'd use me this way."

He said and Lyle sighed.

"I didn't use you Elliot... you're my brother... you know I'd never do anything to put you in danger."

"But you did! Everything you've been doing... it's all because I got with you..."

Lyle sighed. There was no comforting his brother... that ship had sailed. The anger in Elliot's eyes was enough.

"Okay. Okay. Can you stop talking about that now and go back to the apartment?! It's not safe for you to be out here."

"No. I want to see Lori first."

Lyle's jaw dropped.

"No way."

Elliot shrugged as he folded his arms.

"I’m not leaving till I know she's safe. And I'd like to see her too."

Lyle chuckled.

"You are being unreasonable. You think I'd let you see her?! I know what you want to do."

Elliot rolled his eyes.

"What exactly do you think I'll do?! Save her?! I can barely save myself at this point. I just want to see her."

Lyle hesitated. He looked like he was contemplating his brother's words.

"Fine."

He finally grunted.

"But we'll do this on my terms. My way."

**************************

"We've narrowed down where she could be to these three locations. These are all Sabine's properties."

Gabriel said as he pointed to the map.

"This one... now this one is just right out the outskirts of the city. The remaining two are in town."

Draco stared at the map.

"I think we all know she'll go for the location that's more secluded. And this one on the outskirts of the city is more secluded."

Gabriel nodded.

"Exactly. We can't send wolves to scout the area because she'd sniff them from a mile away, but we can send humans to do a sweep of the area."

"I want to know how many wolves are there. How heavily guarded it is and if Lyle and Sabine are in that location."

Gabriel ordered.

The men at the table nodded too.

They slowly left, one by one, all of them occupied with their tasks.

Gabriel's phone beeped again.

It was his grandfather.

The man had been calling him nonstop ever since the chaotic pack elder meeting. He had ignored him. He had ignored almost everyone who was calling him for nonsensical things.

There was only one person on his mind and it was Lori. No one else.

Emilia was safe. He had her and Grace moved out of the penthouse for their safety. Just in case. Although Kate wouldn't stop calling offering her help... Gabriel didn't want to endanger her life either.

She was the daughter of an alpha, he wouldn't have that kind of problem on his hands. He didn't want to.

Draco glanced at the caller ID.

"Shouldn't you call him back?!"

Gabriel shrugged.

"Later."

Draco sighed.

"If the scouts find out that Sabine's men are there... does that mean we'll attack?"

He asked and Gabriel nodded.

"We will."

"But what about Lori?"

Draco asked.

"Aren't you afraid she'll hurt her?"

He had thought about that. About the possibility. Lyle might. Lyle was the kind to kill just for the sake to hurt him, but Sabine was too smart for that. Way too smart.

She knew how much of a leverage Lori gave her. And she would hold on to that for as long as she could.

Without Lori, Sabine and her puny little pack would be squashed within a matter of hours.

"Sabine's too smart for that."

Draco sighed.

"And what if Lyle is the one making all the decisions?"

He asked and Gabriel smirked.

"Again. Sabine is too smart for that."

"Tonight's a full moon."

Draco noted and Gabriel nodded.

"Not just any moon..."

"A super moon."

Gabriel said and Draco nodded. He looked at his hands.
He had been feeling the effects all day, he normally had great control over his wolf.

Excellent control even.

But this time it would be different. He might be a little out of control.

That was what the super moon did. That was why Gabriel had been preparing his pack for it days ago.

"Wolves would be out of control."

Draco stated.

Gabriel shook his head.

"No... we'll be stronger."

**************

Elliot endured being blindfolded and bossed around, all to get to where Lyle was hiding Lori. He was kind of surprised that Lyle had agreed, but then when he got the little cottage he understood. The place was in the middle of nowhere. He stole glances outside the window and he could see nothing but trees, trees and more. He could smell wolves around but the house was empty.

They were in hiding then. Probably stationed on trees and keeping watch from a higher distance.

"We gave Gabriel three days. It's already day two.."

Lyle said.

"Three days for what?!"

He asked and Lyle shrugged.

"Three days to come by himself and pick her up."

"You want to ambush him."

Elliot noted and Lyle nodded.

"Of course. How else will we get him alone?"

"I'm dying to see how he'd fare fighting with at least thirty wolves."

"You really think he'll fall for it?!"

Lyle shrugged.

"If he wants his mate back he will."

"And you're counting on this grand idea?!"

Elliot retorted and Lyle paused and turned to him.

"What do you mean?!"

He asked and Elliot shrugged.

"It just doesn't seem like a good idea. What if you tell him the location and he comes with an army?!"

He asked and Lyle smirked.

"That's the thing... we're not telling him the real location."

Elliot sighed.

"Then what are you going to do?!"

"Just watch..."

Lyle said as he led his brother down the hall and unlocked the door.

"You said you wanted to see her... you have five minutes."

He warned as he pushed Elliot inside the basement and shut the door behind him.

The basement was dark, but Elliot could see Lori sitting on a mattress in the middle of the cold damp floor.

She had her head resting on her knees and she didn't raise them up, not until he called her name.

"Lori..."

She looked up slowly.

She looked tired.

Worn out. And she didn't even look the least bit surprised to see him.

She looked tired and weak. Her shoulders slumped and her skin was a deathly pale color. He looked around, it didn't look like they had given her a proper meal. But it seemed like they must have kept her drugged up. Maybe it was to prevent Gabriel from finding her through the mating bond.

"Lori... I'm so sorry."

He said as he rushed towards her.

He touched her bare hand and flinched at how cold she was. The chill must have gotten to her. With no blanket and the cottage being so cold, he didn't understand why they didn't give her a blanket.

Or at least treat her like a decent human being.

"I'm so sorry."

He sobbed and she looked up at him, her hazel eyes looked brown in the dim light, they looked tired and lackluster.

He had to do something.

He had to save her somehow.

"Elliot."

She called out, her voice raspy.

"Don't worry. I will get you out of here. I will help you."

He whispered quickly as he rubbed her hands with his, providing her with some heat.

Lori scoffed and she pushed him away.

"How?!"

She asked and he shrugged.

"I don't know yet... but I just know I'll get you out of here."

"There's no getting out of here. They're going to kill me... and they'll use me to kill Gabriel too..."

"You should run while you still can. You might be next on their list."

She added and Elliot shook his head.

He had to do something. Lyle had mentioned something about it being the second day Gabriel had. They had given Gabriel three days. Elliot didn't know what Gabriel's plan was but if he knew where Lori was surely he must have found her by now.

Which meant he didn't know where he was. And could possibly fall into the trap Lyle and Sabine had prepared.

He had a chance now. If he didn't do anything... Lori would die.

"I know a way..."

"I know a way to save you."

"What way?!"

Lori asked and Elliot shrugged.

"I'll have to give you the bite."
The Alpha’s Nanny.
