Chapter 60

"I'm a friend of Lori."

Vara mentioned and she could see the woman visibly stiffen.

"I don't know who that is."

The woman said as she tried to close the door, Vara blocked it with her foot.

"I think I’ll come in."

She said as she walked into the house.

"I'm going to call the police."

The woman warned as she ran into the house.

Vara looked around. Pretty house, the Fullers were obviously very comfortable people.

She looked around as she walked down the hallway, the scent of baby powder even heavier than before But now she could smell something else. The unmistakable smell of a baby.

The woman came back out a moment later with a man in a robe with wet hair. They looked petrified to see her.

Vara always got that look, her scar scared people. She liked their fear, could taste in on her tongue like sugar.

They had a phone in their hands.

"If you don't leave now! I'll call the police!"

Vara tilted her head.

"And tell them what? I don't know what you would tell them but I have interesting things to tell them."

"You faked the death of a baby."

She accused and the two of them froze.

"What are you talking about?"

"Sure. Play dumb."

"Call the police if you must. I can do this all night."

She said as she sat down on one of the plush sofas.

She looked around again.

"You have a nice house."

She complimented and the couple just gawked at her.

"I'm warning you!"

The man finally said as he pulled out a knife from his robe. Vara raised an eyebrow.

"E for effort."

She drawled.

"What do you want?! We didn't do anything wrong! We adopted him legally!"

The woman screamed.

Her husband pinched her.

"Sure you did. But why lie that he's dead?"

She asked and the woman sighed.

"It was for the best. We didn't want her to come looking for him, or grow attached to the child..."

"And what would have happened if she found out?!"

"She would never. We were planning to relocate in the next few days. My husband found a job in Canada."

"Shut up."

The man turned to his wife, obviously annoyed with her loose mouth.

"Leave my house!!"

The man said as he charged towards her and Vara stood up and kicked the knife away from his hand, then punched him in the guts.

The man doubled over.

Vara grabbed his throat.

"You don't tell me what to do."

She whispered in his ear as she pushed him to the sofa.

He was wife sobbing across the room.

"Bring the baby."

Vara commanded and the woman froze.

"What?!"

She asked and Vara glared at her.

"I said bring the baby."

The woman disappeared into the hall and Vara contemplated her next line of action.

With her free hand, she sent a text to the men outside.

In less than a minute, they were inside the house.

She released the man and he gasped in relief.

"Search the house. Bring out the woman and the baby out here."

Vara called Sabine.

"The story checks out. The baby is alive."

"Interesting."

Sabine said over the phone and Vara stared as she watched the woman come out with a baby in her arms one of her men behind her.

"What do I do with them?"

Sabine was quiet for a while.

"I don't know... yet. But keep our men around. I want them under strict surveillance."

************************

She was foolish. Stupid. Very stupid.

She had woken up in a damp basement of someone's house. Nothing but a mattress on the cold floor. Not even a blanket. She didn't know where she was and the room was dark and dingy. But she did remember who had put her in it.

Lyle.

From the little she knew, he was Elliot's brother and he must have fallen out with Gabriel for him to hate him so much.

And now, and now he had captured her.

How could she be so careless.

Her hands and legs were unbound, her captor obviously didn't think she was capable of breaking down the door that was at the top of the stairs.

The only way out it seemed.

She stood up, still feeling light headed she staggered a bit, but she climbed up the stairs and tried the door handle.

Locked. She tried to push on it, but it wouldn't budge.

Okay then.

She would wait. Bid her time, see what her captor wanted.

She wasn't dead yet. Maybe there was still hope.

Moments later, the door rattled and Lori jumped up in fear.

The door opened and a woman walked in. With Lyle.

She didn't know who the woman was, but the woman looked exceptional. The way she walked, the way she carried herself... an alpha then.

She must be one of his kind. Especially if she was with Lyle.

"At long last we meet."

She purred and Lori shook her head.

"I don't know who you are."

Sabine smiled.

"Oh surely you must have heard of me."

Lori raised her eyebrow.

"I haven't."

Lyle glared at her.

Sabine walked closer and her smile faded a bit.

"Oh I see. They've mated already."

She said and Lyle nodded.

"This will pose new problems."

Lyle nodded.

"I've taken precautions. The mating is new. As long as we keep her cloaked, he would never find her."

Sabine nodded.

"Good. Wouldn't want to risk her escaping would I?"

She took one look at Lori again.

There was something peculiar about her scent.

Something very familiar.

A scent she knew.

She circled her, taking in as much of the scent as she could and then stopped when it hit her.

She was not human. She was nephilim.

"What?!"

Lyle asked and Sabine shrugged.

"Nothing. Just admiring her beauty."

"You'll be here for a few days. Don't worry, we are not savages so we will treat you well as long as you cooperate."

"Cooperate? What do you mean?"

Lori fired back and Sabine shrugged.

"Just do as you're told and you'll be fine. Besides, it's not like I'd like to incur the wrath of Gabriel by touching a hair on your pretty little head."

"Stay here. Sleep, eat and wait. In three days, you'll know your fate."

With those words, Sabine and Lyle walked out of the basement. Two men came in as she left, one of them holding what seemed to be a long sharp needle.

"No. No!"

She protested as she backed away slowly.

She was no match, one of them grabbed her arm, pinning her down with superhuman strength while the other inserted the needle.

It was a sedative. They had given her a sedative.

Lori fell into an uncomfortable sleep.

********************

"I want this whole city ransacked! I don't care if this whole city is turned upside down, just as long as you bring back my mate!!"

"And whosoever finds Lyle, bring him to me alive!"

The men grunted in approval and began to file out of the room one by one until only Gabriel and Draco were left.

It had been four hours. Four freaking hours and Lori was still missing.

He had come out of the baby's room and went to find her, only to find out that she wasn't in the penthouse anymore.

He picked up his phone to call her and found a text she left him, saying she was going to see Elliot in the lobby.

He had instantly knew that it was a trap, but it was too late

His stupid men too. They had not protected her, they were littered all over the building and they didn't see her leave or Lyle arrive. Only the camera footage showed his presence.

Gabriel didn't think he had ever been so angry in his entire life. The rage in him, the rage threatening to boil over and spill, it was unlike anything he had ever felt.

His fucking mate was missing!

And then Draco came with the horrible news that Elliot had been missing since last night too and Gabriel had punched him out of anger.

Draco took it like a man, understanding that his alpha needed a release, from all the emotions he was feeling.

He left Emilia in Grace's care, as if she had already sensed something was happening, she had been wailing for over an hour. He left the penthouse when he couldn't stand it anymore.

He had organized a search party, about a hundred of his werewolves were combing the city.

Her phone, it couldn't be tracked, it was disconnected and, he tried reaching her through the mating bond and even though he could feel her presence, he could also feel that she was not conscious.

"Gabriel..."

Draco called meekly.

"The elders... they're organizing a meeting, your grandfather is to be in attendance and he wants you there too..."

"I won't be there. Not until I find Lori."

He answered and Draco sighed.

"It's best not to stoke the fire. When you finally find Lori you're going to need all the support you can get from them."

Gabriel groaned.

It was his fault. He had called and publicly declared that Lori was his mate to the other wolves and now word had spread. The elders, focused but curious were calling a meeting to know who she was.

His grandfather had been calling for a while now... and he really didn't have the time to pick up his call.

"When's the meeting?"

"Tonight. The pack house."

"I'll think about it."

He grunted in reply and Draco sighed.

Gabriel's phone rang again. And he picked it up and saw that it was an unknown caller.

He answered the call, only because it could be Lyle.

"Lyle."

He called out and the voice on the other end chuckled.

"Hey cousin."

Lyle sneered.

"Where is she?!"

Gabriel asked as calmly as he could muster.

"Don't worry. She's safe. For the moment."

"Let her go and I'll consider giving you a quick death."

"You're not in any position to be making threats Alpha."

Lyle taunted and Gabriel clenched his jaw.

"Well. Will you or will you not tell me where she is?! Or do you want me to find her myself?"

Lyle scoffed. Gabriel and Draco exchanged glances.

"Oh well I assure you, even that is way beyond your expertise."

"I assume you want something then? Since you've captured her."

Lyle sighed.

"Yes. Yes you're right. I do want something."

"And what is that?"

Gabriel asked and Lyle paused.

"Lyle?!"

He called out and Lyle laughed.

"Oh sorry I got carried away."

"But yea, in three days, I want to meet you, alone, empty handed, in a place of my choosing. We fight for one last time."

"If I win, I get to be alpha, and kill you and your mate. If you win, you get to kill me and take back your mate."

Draco shook his head wearily.

Silently protesting.

Gabriel sighed.

He had no choice.

"Deal."

He said and Lyle ended the call.

"Alpha! It's a trap! It's a trap and you know it!"

Gabriel handed his phone to Draco.

"Have them trace this call. Trap or not, I have no choice."

"I must save Lori."
The Alpha’s Nanny.
