Hospitalized

"Anne…what's wrong?" Yamileth asks her sister as she notices the change in her mood.

"Nothing. I want to be alone." Anita replies in a moody voice.

"Okay…is something disturbing you? You can talk to me, what's wrong sis?" Yamileth asks her again but she refuses to speak and just keeps crying.

"Yamileth what is wrong with your sister?" Monica asks her daughter as she is surprised to see Anita crying like she is in pain, like she is heartbroken.

"Mummy, please can you give us a minute please? Maybe she doesn't want to talk in your presence." Yamileth tried to excuse their mum.

"Why? Am I not her mother? What is it that she can't tell me? What is wrong?" Monica asks Yamileth.

"Uhmm…" Yamileth tries to find the right words when the door swings open and Weston walks in.

"Honey, what did the doctor say is wrong with her?" Monica asks her husband as she turns to look at him. He doesn't look happy.

"Hmmm….we need to talk." He just says after sighing deeply.

"Honey what's wrong?" Monica asks her husband as he looks worried.

"What's it?" Monica asks him again as they go to a corner away from the girls.

"What did the doctor say? Please tell me, you are keeping me worried." She adds again.

"Anita is…is…hmm…I don't know how to say this." Weston keeps sighing as he rubs his face and bit his lower lips over and over again which scares his wife as he touches his arm.

"Talk to me, Anita, what?" Monica asks with a scared face.

"She took the drugs to terminate it. She…hmmm…she wanted to take her life. She poisoned herself." Weston finally replies.

"What are you talking about? What drugs? Terminate what? Poison…what are you saying honey?" Monica asks her husband again as she doesn't understand what he is saying.

"Honey, you won't believe this but the doctor told me that…hmmm…our baby…hmmm…she tried to kill herself." He replies in stutters as he keeps sighing in between his words.

"What do you mean? Kill herself? Why? What's wrong? Oh my goodness…my baby..." Monica panics as she can't believe what she is hearing right now.

"Pull yourself together. The best thing to do is to be strong for her okay? You are her mum so you should always be around her. Please don't let her see you like this. You have to be strong for her." Her husband tries to encourage her to stay strong and not let the news break her down.

"Mum, dad…is everything alright with you two?" Yamileth asks as she notices the anxiety on their faces and how they spoke in hushed times. She also did notice how her mum cleaned her face severally as though she was crying again.

"Yes honey, everything is fine." Weston replies as he walks over to them with his wife in his arms.

"So what did the doctor say is wrong with my sister?" Yamileth asks her dad as Anita looks at them. It is obvious that she still hasn't told Yamileth what happened to her.

"Nothing much…she'll be fine and will get discharged tomorrow morning." Weston replies.

"Oh thank goodness but why tomorrow? Why can't she come home today?" Yamileth throws another anxious question to her dad.

"Well…I don't know why for sure sweetie but the doctor told me that they need to give her a proper check up and see just to make sure she is completely fine and fit to go home." Weston replies.

"But I can take care of her at home…won't they let us go today?" Yamileth asks again as she holds into Anita's hand.

"Honey, your sister's condition doesn't look fit for someone to return home today.

"But…" Yamileth adds when her dad cuts her in.

"No buts daughter. That is what the doctor said and we must follow it in order for Anita to be fine. Plus you can sleep over the night with her if you don't mind. I mean, what do you and your mum say?" Weston asks them.

"Yes…I will, I'll stay with her." Yamileth agrees as Anita shakes her hand. Yamileth turns to look at her sister smiling at her with tears in her eyes.d

"Thank you big sis." Anita says.

"Come on, that's what big sisters do for their younger ones. They protect them from harm and danger. Not under my watch will I watch you fall ill or get harmed darling." Yamileth replies as she pulls the duvet over her sister.

"By the way mum, what did the doctor say is wrong with her? You still haven't answered my question." Yamileth probes further.

"Some sort of depression which we will fix when she is discharged. It could be stressful, especially with this new work that she's gotten." Weston replies.

"That's right. Why don't we call her boss and tell him that she won't be at work tomorrow?" Monica adds immediately.

"Yeah…yeah that's true. You can call him tomorrow morning since the day is far away." Weston replies to his wife then Yamileth cuts them in.

"You two have nothing to worry about. I will call her boss…I'll call him tomorrow morning or even tonight just so he will be informed at hand." Yamileth adds.

"That's so sweet of you honey. We'll be leaving now. Do you need anything that we should bring from home for you?" Monica asks Yamileth.

"No, don't worry…I'm alright here." Yamileth adds. Speaking of calling Anita's boss makes her shiver in fear.

"What if he tells her he had sex with me? What if…oh no…this can't happen…" Anita fights in her mind with her thoughts.

"Goodnight strawberries, muah, have a good night's sleep and don't forget to look after our baby." Monica replies as she kisses Yamileth and goes over to kiss Anita.

Their dad does the same before they take their leave as Yamileth sees them at the door.

"Hey sweetie, you'll be fine in no time alright?" She replies.

"Let me go and get us some peppermint coffee. I'm sure you will love it and get kicking very soon." Yamileth adds.
