FORTY-THREE.

CHAPTER FORTY-THREE - Reese .

On Monday morning, I dressed smartly in a pair of black straight knee-length skirts, which had a slit running through my right lap. I tucked in a fine body con shirt. My hair was packed neatly in a tight ponytail. My makeup was done on my face with; a red matte and a winged eyeliner. I made sure my lashes were straight and shiny with the help of mascara. My feet were clad in open toe Maroon coloured Louboutin heels, five-inch. I finished my dress with a maroon blazer.

Luther left for work at 8 am, but he instructed me to resume by ten. I hadn't told Regina that I would be back in Manhattan and had a new job too, so I was all dressed to surprise them. I giggled as I took one of Luthers' sports cars and placed my sunshade on.

Who said pregnant women couldn't ride in sports cars? I knew I looked so hot with the stare I got from the parking lot alone. I walked inside the building with my heels clicking on the marble floor, head-turners, jaw dropped, voices whispered and I glowed.

I bumped into Regina whose jaw was already cleaning the floor. She blinked dramatically, making me giggle like a teenager.

“Wow,” she exclaimed. “You look like a Kardashian,” she squealed.

“What are you doing in this building? Luther could come out at any time!” she mumbled.

“Well, Luther is standing right behind Regina.” Luther who just stepped behind Regina commented, making Regina halt. While I laughed without a care in the whole world

“So Regina knew about the baby before me?” Luther asked. “Reese ,” Luther whispered, taking a step towards us.

“No-o sir,” she stammered. “I'm just seeing her too, where have you been oh you are pregnant. Have you told him?” Regina blabbed.

I laughed so hard, it was not every time we got to see Regina all flustered. It was a sight.

“It means you knew where she was all this while and you didn't tell me.” Luther presumed.

“Regina Abraham no salary for you for the next two months.” Luther reprimanded.

I watched silently as Regina gaped in horror. I knew he was kidding, there was a tiny little smirk on his lips. “I will see you at lunch break Gina,” I said while trying to hug her. “And I will tell you everything,'' I promised her.

“That you must.” She mouthed and with that, she turned towards the other side of the building practically running.

I turned to make my way to the elevator but was stopped by my boss. “What?” I grinned, he narrowed his eyes at me making me giggle.

“For a pregnant woman, you are so overdressed,” he commented, taking in a sight of me. “And what did I say about heels?” he gently scolded, scowling at the passers-by who were looking at my ass.
I blazed at his possessiveness, he told me last night that he was going to be possessive towards his babies and the carrier. “You look extremely ravishing for a pregnant woman,” He swore. “My babies made you look good, yeah,” he grinned, placing his hands beneath my waist and guiding me into the elevator. I was flustered by the compliment and the way his hands keep rubbing my back gave me goosebumps.

“Your unsolicited advice isn't needed.” I sneered at him.

He rolled his eyes then showed me my new space, and introduced me to everyone as the new chief executive in the operating system, and well his baby mama. I was shocked at the announcement that we didn't talk about that. Luther avoided my gaze throughout the introduction. I met with the board of directors, I was briefed about how they ran everything on this floor and I was set to work.

My office was designed to be cozy, it was every woman's dream office. The teal green wall paint made it look like my apartment back in Chicago. I loved every bit of my workspace. There were flowers, wall paints and a basket of tropical fruit. I sat at my desk and turned on the computer, I read through all the emails the last staff left unread. I functioned for a few more hours before my best friend bagged in for our lunch treat.

“Stop looking at me that way, Gigi!” I whined. She rolled her perfect eyeballs at me, before placing a box of chocolate glazed doughnuts on my desk.

“Perchance, if you tell me exactly what you are doing here!” She howled.

I told everything that transpired between Luther and Io Regina. When I finished, I was practically out of breath while Regina's mouth hung open.

“That's a lot,” she breathed. “But I'm worried about you, what if Petra finds out!” She exclaimed, lines of worry gracing her forehead.

I had no response to that, so I shoved a piece of the doughnut into my mouth and began to munch. We chatted till our break was over. She briefed me on what has been happening to Xavier and how successful his business is growing. I couldn't help but be happy for my best friends, they truly deserved each other especially after Xavier left Luther's company to work with the C&O.

My phone buzzed, signifying either a text message or my social media notification. I stretched out my hands over the already empty doughnut pack to get my phone. It was a message and it read;

‘You rid go against my warning, see you soon Reese .’

I sighed, this happened to be the seventh message to Petra in the last twenty-four hours. I was fed up, I was tired of being scared of what was never going to happen. Luther needed to speak sense into his girl or I will be forced to do it.

I took my bag since I was done for the day and headed towards Luthers's office. I yanked his glass door open like I always did.

“That was sexy as fuck!” Luther shrieked. “You mind going back and yanking the door again, I want to have it on camera.” He said trying to get his phone from his pocket.

“I'm not here to model.” I declared. “Warn Petra to stay far away from me,” I stated with all seriousness, gesticulating with my hands.

“Petra. . . ” he repeated the name like he had no idea who it belonged to. Well, I was here to remind him.

“Petra, your girlfriend, has been sending me threatening messages. . .” I stopped trying to catch my breath. “Make sure nothing happens to either me or my babies.” I was warned. I yanked the door open just as I did when I came in.

I went straight to the parking slot and got into the car, I fixed my seatbelt. I could see Luther hot in his heels from my rear mirror. I roared the car to life and made my way home.

Music fully blasting, I kept nodding my head to the rhythm. I love moments like this, just my cowgirl's time. I was heading towards traffic when I realized my break had refused to function. I began to panic, my cell phone was ringing and it was Luther. I knew he noticed something must be wrong.

I tried with the break again and I passed the traffic into a moving truck. I heard the sounds of tires screeching against the coal faded floor, an ear-deafening hit and felt myself in the air before my car came to a halt, with smoke in it.

Shattered glasses, red liquid, fire and Luthers's face was the last thing I saw before I passed out.
