CHAPTER FIFTY - Luther.

I walked into Reese 's ward room where I met her mom and Regina hovering over her.

“What is going on here?” I asked, walking toward her bed. I met a sight that almost threw me off balance. Reese 's eyelids were moving, she was squinting.

I contemplated rushing out to call the doctor, but I decided against the idea, what if I was dreaming. I kept my eyes trained on her as I pressed the emergency button behind her bed. It buzzed all over the building, echoing Reese 's room number as an emergency alert. A female doctor rushed into the ward and asked us for a check-up.

I paced. My mind was in a frenzy. I couldn't focus. Reese 's mom and Regina held on top of one another as they cried. I leaned on the wall and imagined what was happening behind these walls. Was Reese awake? Does she have amnesia? A Lot kept ringing through my mind. The doctor pulled the door open and stepped outside. We all rushed toward her before she could even ask of us, and that made her chuckle

“She is awake now,” the doctor breathes. I felt as if all the weight on my shoulders had been lifted.

“She has responded very well to medications and I must say she is very healthy,” the doctor whose tag Miss Laura says.

“So I hereby ask you all to feed her lots of fruits and vegetables, and please she needs lots of rest,” she added, holding Reese 's mom whose eyes shone with tears.

The doctor permitted us to go in and see Reese , but I let Reese 's mom and Regina go in first.

I feel relieved, I feel happy. I felt like I could breathe again. I strolled into Lennie's ward to talk to her. In the last few days, I had made it a habit to talk to Lennie at intervals. I know she couldn't hear me yet, so I felt why not build a connection from this moment.

“Hey, baby,” I whispered, placing my palm on the glass covering.

“Your mom just woke up, I thought it would be okay if I let you know, princess. ” I whispered again.

“So just like your mom, I want you to be very healthy too, okay, I love you so much, princess. ” I whispered, kissing the glass coating.

I made my way back to the wardroom where k bumped into Regina. Her eyes are red from crying too much, her face looks brighter too. I know she was genuinely happy for Reese .

“Oh, I was coming to get you,” she flushed.

“Reese is asking you,” she added, as we walked into the ward, where Reese was already sitting. Her mom excused us.

I took in her view as she tried to smile at me. Her face lost its vibrant color, those lips were still chapped. She looks lean too.

“Hi,” she mouthed, waving her hands in the air. I was driven by emotions, I threw Reese into my chest in a tight hug. My chest was clouded, with a weird feeling I cannot pinpoint. I held her for about three minutes before letting go.

“Reese ,” I whispered, everything sounded and looked so unreal. I have prayed for this day. And now here it is.

“Samuel, what happened?'' She asked, I knew she needed answers.

“I will tell you everything when you are fully strong.” I voiced, drawing tiny circles in her palm.

“I am fine now, I can handle anything, Regina said it was best if you tell me yourself, ” she retorted.

“So Sam, I am listening ” she finished. At one point, I forgot how stubborn Reese can be. I watched her forehead adorned with worry lines, she unconsciously rubbed her hand over her stomach.

“What can you remember last?” I asked, trying to engage her In a conversation. She furrowed her brows, trying to think.

“I was mad about Petra, so I was riding home and suddenly the car brake refused to initiate,” she started. “There was a hit and I woke up in the hospital,” she concluded matter of fact.

She pinned me with her gray eyes which look dull, maybe due to too much sleep. I sighed.

“Well. . .” I stopped speaking, staring at her, trying to see if she was mentally prepared for the news and everything else. She nodded at me urging me to go on.

“You ran into a truck and there was an accident. We rushed you down here.” I halt, kissing her knuckles. “You lost one of the babies, you were losing so much blood and the doctor decided it was best if he performed a C-section to save you both.” I informed her.

She said nothing but kept watching me blankly.

“We had a baby girl, she is currently in an incubator. ” I sighed for the umpteenth time.

She was still quiet.

“I named them Lennie temporarily though, you can name her when you are back on your feet.” I added Immediately because I had a feeling she wasn't going to like the name I picked.

“I want to see Samuel.” She implored about to throw her feet on the floor.

“No.” I started, holding her back to the bed.

“It's not healthy and safe for both of you, I swear when you're well I will take you to go meet her,” I promised, she sent a look my way, saying she doesn't believe it.

“Look, I have every moment of their life recorded, since the day she was born. I will have watched them okay?” I was persuaded. She sighed before nodding her head.

“But the car was perfectly normal that morning,” she mused.

“It got tampered with,” I whispered. The look on her face told me she wanted me to continue and I did.

“Petra is working with someone to help you,” I whispered, and she inhaled sharply. I considered the weight of my next words to her, before bringing myself to tell her.

“With who? ”she asked, looking me straight in the eyes

“David, your uncle.” and as expected she froze.
