FORTY-SIX.

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX - Luther.

The next day I woke up already knowing what my routine for the day was; I woke up beside Reese , checked on my baby, went home to freshen up, grabbed some food, went back to the hospital and it continued. The list had become my daily to-do list.

I woke up beside Reese and checked her pulse. Make sure her oxygen was in the perfect place, not that she turned at all, her body was very well still stiff. I applied a bit of my pocket balm to her hip to ease the chapped lips.

I went into the incubating room to check on Lennie. I thought I might just call her that before Reese searched for a name. Like yesterday I felt like she added an inch. Her silk hair sticks to her head like a second skin. I brought out my cell phone and captured the moment.

On my way home to freshen up, I rode my car as gently and carefully as I could. If the young woman who caught me speeding about four nights ago saw me now she would not believe I was the right person.

I got home, took my bath and got dressed in a casual Black shirt, black jeans and Adidas sneakers. Tommy called and asked me to meet him in Allocito.

Allocito is an ancient Italian restaurant here in Manhattan. They sold all types of Italian meals prepared by an old lady. It's a very homely restaurant that makes you feel like you are somewhere in Italy on a trip to your family's house. It's grand, ancient and beautiful.

I arrived at Allocito an hour later, it's located on the outskirts of Manhattan. I do wonder what with Tommy and visiting places that could be beneficial after our meeting. I paid him well, maybe to get some food, either cunts or chops.

I met Tommy sitting at the furthest and darkest end of the restaurant, eyes skimming through their menu with glee. Immediately he heard footsteps approaching, he placed an order without looking up.

“Can I get pasta sauteed in peanut butter and fried chili sauce?” he ordered, without looking up still.

“And a glass of your best white wine please,” he continued.

“For a private investigator, You are quite a fool,” I muttered, making him look suddenly. His neck and ear turned pink. Well, who knew Tommy could be embarrassed.

“Sorry man,” he sighed. “I haven't eaten anything since I received your call yesterday.” He commented. “I'm starving.” he completed, with a dramatic sigh and a hand placed on his stomach. I rolled my eyes at his playfulness. Tommy, at the grand age of fifty-six, played much more than Lennie.

My heart burns at the remembrance of my premature daughter, a child I so much wanted to touch.

“I don't have all day Tommy, tell me what you've got.” I chided.

“I need to be at the hospital.” I completed it.

“When was the last time you had something to eat?” he questioned. I didn't have time to argue so I told him.

“Yesterday morning, I had some toast.” I grimaced at it.

“Well,” he paused to look. “You are going to need your strength if you want to take care of your woman and child,” he pointed out. “And for the news I have for you, you need to eat, so you won't faint on me.” He added with all seriousness. He leaned in and called a waitress who appeared in a second.

“Hi gentlemen, what can I offer you?” she asked. Her Italian accent is so pronounced. She couldn't hide it to save her life. She was petite and had brown wavy hair, sparkling brown eyes typically Italian.

"You look really pretty. I can feel your brown eyes piercing right through my soul.” Tommy flirts, her cheeks free red from the sudden blush. She looks so uncomfortable.

“Tommy.” I gritted out. He raised his hands in mock surrender before ordering what he wanted. I did the same when he was done.

I fondly bracelets as we wait for our food.

“So, who do you think tampered with your woman's car break?” he questioned after the last piece of our plate was cleared.

“Petra., I started as a matter of fact.

“Well, it was done by a man in a black hoodie, I checked the CCTV footage close to the car pack. But I couldn't make out his face,” he said.

“He wore a face mask and a dark shade, '' he concluded.

“Petra might have paid people to do the dirty job.” I suggested.

“If I were to be in her shoes, I'd do the same,” I added.

“Well, that's if you aren't working with anybody.” He jawed.

“Excuse me.” I whispered.

“Sorry man,” he says leaning in.

“I got petra's phone number, I didn't know she had a thing for older folks. She was easy to approach,” he concluded. I just nodded my head and continued looking at Tommy. A sign that he should cut the chase and spill! “I impersonated her sim card, I got a burner phone and added the contact,” he explained. I dread where this is all headed. “So a digit is sending her stuff and stuffing what to do and not,” he added. “I didn't care much at first, but I read the last few messages which said,” he paused, looking at my face for some approval. I gave him a nod.

Petra: Could you believe she is back at my man's place? you said after all the threats she wouldn't dare

Unknown: How did you know?

Petra: I told you about the tracker I set on her phone.

Unknown: let us get her out of the picture then, I have always found her as a weakling whose surviving zone is hell.

Petra: What if we get caught trying to kill her?

Unknown: little girl leaves that to me. Well congratulations in advance Petra Luther for the death of a hindrance.

Petra: Grinnnnnnsssss.

And that was all about the last conversation, my heart skipped. I looked around Allocito, maybe I've been followed.

“Do you have a beef with anyone, who happens to hate Reese and get access?” he asked

“None that I can remember.” I mouthed.

“Then I need to get to work, see you in twenty-four hours, Sam, stay safe,” he says. Like a flashlight, he was out of the restaurant in a giffy paying for his meals again.
