Chapter 42: Starry Night
< Shirley >
It had been more than three hours since I was driving. I didn't even realize how long I had been crying and driving until I noticed the time. I didn't even know where I was.
It had always been a habit of mine. Whenever I got sad or felt like crying, I went on a drive. That's how I had discovered my passion for racing.
I didn't want to go back home, neither did I want to spend the whole night wandering around the streets. I could go to some friend's house, but they would be too busy for me and none really cared actually.
Maybe I could go to Sienna. She was a psychologist. She could help me. She would also listen to me patiently and cheer me up. Without wasting any more time, I started driving towards their mansion.
However, unfortunately, Sienna went shooting for a movie, and she wouldn't be back until the day after tomorrow. "Are Xavier or Riley here?" I asked the maid.
"No, Sir Xavier went to the port and Sir Riley is at the headquarters," Trisha replied with a sad smile. I thought maybe Xavier or Riley would let me share my feelings with them. They had become so close to me within such a short time.
"Oh, okay." I was going to leave but stopped as Trisha opened her mouth again.
"But Sir Dylan is in his room. You can talk to him if it's urgent."
Dylan? Would he listen to me?
"Okay." There was no harm in trying. Dylan might listen to me since he has been nicer than before. I went upstairs to his room.
I knocked on his door.
"Dylan?" I called out but got no reply. "Dylan? Dylan? Are you in there?" I turned the doorknob a little bit and opened the door quietly. No one was present in the room but the air conditioner was turned on.
I tiptoed inside the room. As soon as I entered, I felt his fragrance all over the room but he wasn't there. I glanced at his king-sized bed to find his phone lying peacefully.
"Where did he go?" I wondered.
I heard something moving. Being scared, I glanced in the direction to find the curtain blowing along with the wind. He might have been on the balcony since the door opened.
"Dylan?" I called when I stepped inside the balcony. But he wasn't there as well. Rather there was an empty tea table and a chair. The glowing blue fairy lights caught my eyes. On one side of the wall, the fairy lights were beautifully decorated with Dylan's name. "Dylan..." I pronounced his name softly, looking at the wall. When I was about to leave, my eyes fell on the staircase on the other side of the wall. There was a staircase that led upstairs.
Could he be upstairs?
The mansion was two-storied and his room was on the first floor. Maybe it was the terrace type place. I decided to follow the path. Once I reached the end of the stairs, I was on a small terrace. It was more like a personal terrace just for him to use.
I was amazed at the beauty of the place. There were many types of flowers on one side of the terrace. It was like a small garden. The fairy lights were beautifully decorated around them, giving the flower a beautiful glow.
On another side, there was a small shade with a small table along with two chairs. I noticed there was an empty plate of food kept on it as if someone was having dinner there.
That's when my eyes fell on him who was sitting on the thick railing. Dylan was swinging his legs like a little kid while staring at the starry sky. There were thousands of stars visible in the sky tonight. It was ethereal.
The glow of the moon and fairy lights put on a different reflection on his face. He also had a small smile on his lips as he stared at the stars. He was wearing a black jacket on top of a black tee. My heart did a somersault when my eyes fell on him for the first time.
Mesmerizing...Did he have any idea that he looked like a freaking model sitting on the railing like that? Wait a minute, railings? It was freaking dangerous!
"Dylan, get off the railings. It's dangerous," I said all of a sudden. His attention turned at me abruptly.
"What are you doing here? Who let you in, anyway?" Dylan asked, freaking out. He almost fell off but managed to balance. My heart skipped when he was about to lose balance.
"I will answer you but get off the railings first. You might fall and die," I warned but he didn't back down.
"I am not going to fall unless you push me off from here," he said nonchalantly.
"Please, Dylan, get down."
What if he really slipped? Even the thought makes me shiver.
"No way."
"Please. It's really risky," I requested.
He deadpanned, "No one dies by falling from the second floor."
I shivered at the thought. "I don't care. Dylan, just get down!" I exclaimed with worry.
"Later," he replied and went back to looking at the sky. I sighed and went near him. I was going to sit beside him on the railings. "Wait, wait, what are you up to?" he questioned.
"I want to sit beside you," I answered.
"It is dangerous," he warned.
"Stop being a sexist. If it is not dangerous for you, then it is not for me either," I said stubbornly.
"I am not being a sexist. And I never said it wasn't dangerous. I am used to sitting here but you are not. You could fall. I can't afford that."
I saw some flashes of concern in his eyes so I said, "Don't worry. If I fall, I know you will catch me or you will fall with me." I winked at him and climbed up the railings to sit beside him. He didn't say anything after that, rather he was speechless. Thank goodness, I was wearing jeans otherwise it would have been weird.
He had a tight grip on my arm while I was climbing, in case I lost balance. In that way, he was just proving my point. Whenever I fall, he will fall along with me or he will catch me before I fall.
Dylan heaved a sigh when I made myself comfortable beside me. And oh, my gosh! The view from there was amazing. I had never gazed at the outside from here. But this was so utterly magnificent.
Since Dylan's room was at the backside of the mansion, the terrace had views of the woods and mountains. After all, the mansion was in an isolated area with no other houses around. At least, I didn't have to see multi-storied buildings from here.
I had almost forgotten my reason for arrival here.
"Why were you crying?" His question made me gape at him with shock.
"How did you know?" I asked, being bewildered.
"There are tear stains on your face," he replied and touched my cheeks delicately as if even a light touch would hurt me.
"It's nothing." I didn't want to upset him with my story, even though that's what I came here to do. I just wanted to spend some time with him now.
"C'mon, tell me." He nudged.
"No." I felt the cold wind brush against my skin. My hair was blowing along with the wind. I was enjoying the cold breeze. I closed my eyes to feel the serenity.
"Okay then." He huffed and got down from the railings. He slipped his hands around my waist and put me down as well. I jolted my eyes open at his actions.
"Hey, I was enjoying myself," I complained and puffed my cheeks.
"If you aren't telling me anything, then leave," he declared stubbornly.
"Okay, okay, I will tell you. Happy?" I frowned and rested my palm on my hip.
"Yeah, really happy," he said and held my wrist in his hand and pulled me somewhere. "Come with me." He sounded so affectionate and kind. His words and touches were so gentle. Only if he was like that always.
He sat down, leaning against the wall. He motioned me to sit beside him. I did what I was told. I pulled one of my knees close to my chest and hugged it.
Dylan smiled and said, "Now you can share whatever you want to. I might not be a good speaker, but I am a good listener though." I already knew that about him.
My lips curved up and I wrapped my arms around his left arm. I also rested my head on his shoulder. I felt warmth radiating off him. He was so warm, even though my hands were freezing.
This felt so good. Being this close to him indeed made my heart go crazy. But this was also the best feeling I ever had and I didn't want to let go of it.
