KEEPING MIA SAFE
Adrienne's eyes narrowed as he looked at Mia with suspicion. She took a step back and hid behind my leg and takes my arm, holding it tightly with her tiny hands, as if she is afraid of him. "Ah, so this is the girl that has an immunity to the virus," he said, his voice laced with curiosity.
The rest of the council members that were making their way into the room slow down. They turn their heads to face us, their eyes scanning Mia’s face with curiosity and suspicion.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I responded, "Yes, she is. What is she doing here?"
Adrienne hesitated for a moment before replying, "This is one of the reasons for this meeting." His cryptic response only made me more anxious.
"But I believe she has no family members alive, so what is your relationship with this girl?" he continued, his gaze fixed on me.
Alpha Volkov stepped forward, his expression serious. "Alivia is the one that treated Mia," he explained, his voice firm.
Adrienne's eyes widened in surprise. "Ahh, interesting," he said. "Then I guess you should join us for the meeting after all." As he turned and walked towards the door, I could not help but feel a sense of unease. What could this all mean for Mia?
I feel Mia's small hand still gripping tightly onto my arm as I turn to face her, I kneel down to her level and I look deep into her eyes, my lips curving into a gentle smile. “Mia, you stay here with the guard, okay? I'm going to talk to the other people inside. Don't worry, the guard will keep you safe," I say. Even though she looks worried when she looks at me and the guard, she nods in agreement.
I followed the council members into the meeting room, my mind racing with questions. As we took our seats around the large table, I noticed the tension in the air. Something big was about to happen, and I couldn't shake the feeling that it was connected to Mia's immunity.
Alpha Volkov cleared his throat, silencing the room. "Let's begin," Dr. Volkov said, his eyes scanning the room. "We have much to discuss today."
Adrienne leaned forward in his seat. "I agree. The virus is spreading rapidly, and we need to find a cure as soon as possible. And from what we know, Mia's immunity might be the key to that cure."
Cedric cleared his throat and addressed the room. "Before we move forward with finding a cure, there's something we need to consider," he began.
All eyes turned to Cedric in surprise. "What do you mean?" Alpha Volkov asked, his brow furrowed in concern.
Cedric leaned forward; his eyes narrowed. "I've been doing some investigating, and I've come across some evidence that suggests the virus may not be a natural occurrence," he said. "There could be someone behind the outbreak, someone who wants to harm our kingdom."
The room fell silent as everyone took in Cedric's words. Alpha Volkov leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. "Are you sure about this, Cedric?" he asked.
Cedric nodded “the virus seems to have originated from a specific location. It's too much of a coincidence for it to have just happened randomly."
Adrienne leaned back in his seat, deep in thought. "If what Cedric is saying is true, then we need to find out who's behind this," he said. "And quickly."
I could not help but feel a sense of unease at Cedric's revelation. If someone was really behind the outbreak of the virus, then it could mean that there was a bigger threat at play.
"Where did the virus originate?" I ask.
Reginald responds his voice gruff " Animals began attacking in the outskirt towns of Adrenia, after that some of the werewolves began going berserk and attacking before dying of high fever.”
I swallowed a lump in my throat I am the princess of Adrenia, and I had no idea that all of this is going on. " Have you spoken to the Queen about this? Can she give us any information?"
Reginald shook his head. "We've been tried to speak to the Queen, but she refused to give us any information."
I frowned, feeling a sense of frustration. "Why wouldn't she want to help? This is affecting the entire kingdom," I said, my voice laced with concern.
Cedric’s eyes intense as if he is in deep thought. "There could be a number of reasons," he said. "Perhaps she's trying to protect someone or doesn't want to create panic among the citizens."
Adrienne nodded in agreement. "Either way, we need to find out what's going on and stop this virus from spreading any further. And if someone is behind this, we need to bring them to justice."
The room fell silent as we all pondered the gravity of the situation. It was clear that finding a cure for the virus was only the beginning. We had a much bigger problem on our hands, and it was up to us to solve it.
Adrienne's sharp eyes scanned the room, his face grim as he spoke. The virus outbreak had taken its toll on everyone, and the urgency of finding a cure was at an all-time high. "We need to focus on Mia she's the only link right now to finding a cure, while we investigate who is behind this outbreak."
Cedric, nodded in agreement. "Yes, but we also need to keep her safe. She's the key to our survival, and we can't afford to lose her."
Alpha Volkov, the leader of the werewolf pack, stood up from his seat, his eyes blazing with determination. "I'll have Mia stay with my pack. It is the safest place for her, and we will make sure she's protected at all times. Also considering Mia is comfortable with Alivia it will be better for her to stay with us."
Adrienne nodded in approval. "That's a good idea. Alivia, can you stay with Mia and help us gather any information we need?"
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I was ready for such a big responsibility. But I knew I had to do whatever I could to help. "Of course, I'll do whatever it takes to help find a cure and stop this outbreak."
Dr. Volkov gave me a reassuring smile. "Thank you, Alivia. We'll work together to gather as much information as possible."
As I looked around the room, I could not help but feel a sense of unease. There was something more going on, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that we were missing something important.
"What about the Queen?" I asked, feeling a knot form in my stomach. "Shouldn't we try to talk to her and get her to help?"
Cedric shook his head, his expression grave. "It's too risky. We don't know who's involved in this outbreak and approaching her directly would alert whoever is responsible that we are onto them. We need to keep our investigations low-key for now."
Adrienne's voice rang out, firm and resolute. "We need to be cautious, but we can't let fear hold us back from finding the truth. We'll work quietly, but we'll get to the bottom of this."
Cedric speaks up “I think it would be better if we stayed here for some time to investigate the virus and also to monitor the progress with Mia.”
Cedric's expression was pensive as he spoke up. "I think it would be wise for us to remain here and closely monitor the situation. We need to thoroughly investigate the virus and closely observe Mia's progress."
Adrienne quickly nodded in agreement, his eyes shining with determination. "Absolutely. We cannot take any chances with this outbreak. Our main priority should be finding a cure as quickly as possible."
Dr. Volkov's deep voice interrupts the tense silence. "You can all stay here with us, in the Crimson Moon pack. We will keep you safe and support your investigation in any way possible," he said with authority and conviction.
As Adrienne casts her gaze across the room, the other council members nod in agreement. "That's very kind of you, Dr. Volkov. Thank you," he says.
"Excellent, I'll have someone prepare some rooms for all of you," Dr. Volkov says.
With that everyone stood up and I watched everyone disperse, I could not help but feel a sense of trepidation. The road ahead was long and perilous, but we were determined to save our kingdom and protect our people. The question was at what cost?
