THE COUNCILS CONCERNS

As we made our way to the meeting room, my heart raced, and my steps felt heavy with anticipation. We pause as we reach the entrance. All I can hear is the muted murmuring of conversations between the other council members, tense and expectant energy filling the air. As one, they turn and regard us silently, their eyes demanding an explanation for what has happened.

Adrienne walks beside me and takes a seat, giving me a comforting nod, which I appreciate in this nerve-wracking situation. With a deep breath, I took my seat and braced myself for whatever was to come.

Council member Cedric clears his throat and all conversation ceases. Even in the tension-filled atmosphere, he carries himself with silent authority.

"As you all know," Cedric begins, "the situation has escalated. Last night's attack is proof that someone is behind this virus outbreak."

His words seem to hang in the air like a curse, and my heart skips a beat as I share a worried glance with Dr. Volkov. We all know there may be more to this enemy than meets the eye.

"We cannot afford to underestimate our enemy," Cedric says darkly, the gravity of his words striking me like an icy chill. "They have likely discovered that Mia has an immunity to the virus and that's why they tried to attack. But instead, they saw something far more powerful: you, Alivia, and your ability to heal."

My breath shudders in my chest as I comprehend the full reality of what he is saying. The thought that my power had been revealed and now poses a threat to us sends a wave of fear through me. As I turn to face Dr. Volkov, I can't help but notice the troubled expression etched on his face. I clench my fists in anger and frustration at the situation we have found ourselves in.

"Now that our enemies know this," Cedric continues with a deep sigh, "I'm afraid that your life is at risk."

The atmosphere thickens ominously as his words hang suspended in mid-air. Every molecule in the room seems to weigh heavily on me and I take a deep breath trying to remain calm.

"I understand the risks," I reply firmly, despite my trembling heart. "But I refuse to be intimidated by fear. We must use every resource available to us to uncover the truth behind these attacks and protect our community."

Dr. Volkov nodded, his eyes dark with worry. He added with a hint of desperation in his voice, "We need to find out how our enemies breached our security and gather as much information as possible to identify their motives and origin."

"I should have done more," Magnus sighed heavily. "I had posted guards at every entrance before the bonfire, yet somehow they still managed to get inside. I will take responsibility for this failure and ensure that such an unfortunate lapse in security does not occur again."

His words were filled with remorse and regret as he hung his head in shame, struggling to cope with the guilt of failing in his duties. The breach in security during the bonfire is of great concern and we all shared his frustration and disappointment.

"But there is something else," he continued hesitantly. "The way those wolves fought, it was too precise and coordinated not to come from military training." His words made me uneasy as I glanced around the council members, exchanging nervous looks between us.

"Do you mean to say that these attackers were soldiers?" I asked, my voice wavering. Magnus nodded slowly in response, confirming our worst fears.

I couldn't believe it. The idea that trained soldiers would attack us. Nothing about this situation made sense. The attacks had come out of nowhere and their and their precision indicated that this wasn’t a random act of violence.

I looked around the room and I saw confusion and worry etched into every council member's face. We were all grappling with the same questions; Who were these attackers? What did they want? And why were they targeting us? Is it really because they found out that Mia has an immunity to the virus like council member Cedric said?

It was then that I realized I haven't seen Mia since I had woken up, "Where is Mia? Is she ok?" I asked looking at Dr Volkov.

He sighed and said, “She’s with Agatha and Sarah. I decided it is best for them to stay here at the pack house. After the attack she was really scared, and I thought it would be best is she had them around her."

My heart tightened in my chest as I wished there was something more, I could do to help her. At least she wasn't alone; Agatha and Sarah were both strong and capable women who would be able to comfort her.

At that moment, Dr. Volkov's voice cut through the quiet, grave atmosphere, his urgent voice filled the space. "At the Bonfire after the attack," he began, "there was someone watching us." His words shattered the oppressive silence blanketing the room and held everyone in rapture as they eagerly awaited further information.

“I saw him lurking in the shadows,” Dr. Volkov says, his eyes flickering with fear and apprehension. “He disappeared when I tried to approach him, but I know he was watching us – studying our reactions. He could have vital information about our enemies and their plans.”

Reginald's jaw clenches tightly as he speaks.
"We need to find this person and question them," he growls, his voice filled with determination.

Council member Magnus, known for his unwavering commitment to our community's safety, agrees firmly. "I will oversee the investigation into this witness," he declares. "We must not let any potential leads slip through our fingers."

Council member Landon, experienced in reconnaissance and surveillance, follows suit. "I will join you," he says firmly. His eyes are determined, focused on the task ahead. "We need to gather all the evidence we can so that we can uncover the truth behind this attack. Did you see what he looks like?"

Dr. Volkov shakes his head in despair. “No, but I have my lead trackers scouting the area to try and pick up a scent".

Council Member Landon looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Hmm, let's coordinate with your trackers and gather any evidence we can find at the scene. We need to figure out who is behind this and why they targeted us."

Dr. Volkov nods in agreement, “I will make sure my lead trackers work with you and provide any assistance you need,"

Council member Landon glanced nervously at the rest of the council, "We need to be vigilant and make sure our security measures are up to par." he said grimly. "This attack was a warning ... and if we don't act now, we will suffer the consequences."

The other council members silently express their agreement. We all aware of the risks associated with uncovering the missing witness, but we also knew that it had to be done, there was no other choice than to press forward. After some heated discussion, we reluctantly agreed on a plan of action. Failure is not an option, and no expense or effort would be spared to achieve our goal.
