-HER-
I wake up a bit late in the morning. I was up late, talking to him. I don’t remember when I went to sleep but I am sure it was sometime early in the morning. I drag myself out of the bed and do my morning business half asleep.
His message is already waiting for me when I check my phone. I text him ‘good morning’ before I go down to have breakfast. It’s noon when I sit down with the assignment and work some more.
The time seems to fly by in a couple of blinks before it’s time to go out.
I chose a peach pink dress that ends just a few inches above my knees. It complements my hair as well as my skin. I have put my hair up in a messy bun and completed the look with white snickers. I didn’t put much makeup except for some mascara and pink lipstick.
Over the dress, I put a dark grey jacket and a matching muffler since it’s cold outside.
After I get dressed and leave the house and walk towards the corner of the road- just where he drops me every time. I chose not to tell mom anything for now. She doesn’t need to know until we are into something serious.
His slick black car is waiting for me when I reach the turning point of the road. He has a huge grin on his face when I get inside the car.
He drinks in my appearance thirstily before complementing, “You’re looking very beautiful, Cybele,” His eyes hold me captive with a fervent gaze. I offer him a small smile in return.
He takes me by surprise by leaning in and stealing a kiss from me, “I missed you so much,” He mutters against my lips.
“We talked last night, Jake,” I speak, shaking my head at him.
“I just can’t get enough of you, Cybele. You’re my mate,” He says before pressing another kiss against my jaw and pulling back, “Thanks for coming. It means a lot to me,” He tells me and I nod at him.
As he turns his attention to the road and starts the engine, I chose this moment to look at him properly.
He is wearing a black shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans. On top of the shirt, he’s wearing a deep brown jacket to complete the look. He is looking heartbreakingly handsome as always. He’d look nice even if he is in rags. He has definitely dived at the right side of the gene pool.
“Where are we going, Jake?” I ask him. He grins before answering, “It’s a place in the north of Itaville,”
“We are going to the city?” I ask him curiously.
“No, it’s actually outside the city. Even farther north. I live there,” His eyes flicker to me before he looks back at the road. I notice that we are on the highway that runs on the outskirt of the city, heading north.
“Where is this place, exactly?” I ask him, feeling even more curious. I have never been further Itaville.
“You’ll see. It’s a very special place,”
“What’s there exactly?”
“You’ll see when we go there. Just be patient, Cybele I don’t want to ruin it by telling you everything,” He informs me. I nod and settle back in my seat. Soon we are driving through woods where the sun disappears behind the tall trees.
“So, you’ll tell me everything tonight, right?” I ask him after a pause. He instantly tenses before he looks at me briefly, “I will…”
I see uncertainty in his eyes. He seems anxious as he looks back at the road before he asks, “Are you scared, Cybele?” He places one of his hands on mine, giving me those strange sensations again before assuring me, “Please don’t be scared, Cybele,”
I couldn’t help but shiver at those sensations. They seem to be getting stronger every time we touch. I want to know what they are and hopefully, he’ll tell me everything tonight.
“What is it really? Did you murder someone or are you part of the mafia or something like that?” I ask him, narrowing my eyes at him. His head snaps at me and gives me a momentary look before he breaks off into laughter.
“No, nothing like that, Cybele,” He speaks after he’s done laughing, “but it would have been interesting and easier if any of it was true,”
“Then what is it?” I ask him, crossing my hands on my chest. He gives me the same knowing that always drives me crazy.
“Don’t give me that look, Jake. I want to smack all the secrets out of you every time you look at me like that,” I grit out. He breaks off into another laughing hysteria.
“You’re fvcking annoying,” I couldn’t help but comment.
“Wait till you meet Davis. You’d want to kill yourself,” He tells me after he’s done laughing. A frown climbs on my face as soon as I remember what went down in the library with his brother.
“He’s something else,” I mutter, feeling more annoyed.
“Did you meet him?”
“He made me pick out some books in the library once. It was before we met,” I told him and he nods before commenting, “I bet you thought it was me since you didn’t know I had a twin then,”
“Er kind of… I just felt different around him,” I draw out hesitantly. He smirks at me before shifting his hand from mine to the exposed skin on my thigh. I instantly squeeze my legs shut. My stomach tightens and I feel my core pulse lightly.
His eyes are dark when I look at him.
“You’ve been running away even before we met,” He speaks, squeezing my thigh. I place my hand on his, “I hope you stop this soon because I couldn’t bear it anymore,” There’s a hint of pain in his voice as he speaks.
“I’ll try to, Jake,” I whisper. He turns his hand and hooks his pinkie finger around mine before asking, “Promise?”
A momentary silence falls between us before I finally draw out, “I promise,”
