-HIM-
The next thing, I am being hurled out of the room in which Cybele is kept by Agatha. Meanwhile, Agatha has given Cybele some medication that would put her to sleep. Agatha has warned me not to visit Cybele before she has wakened up.
I am also told by Agatha that Cybele’s in shock and she needs to sleep it away otherwise it would affect her. I persist with my demand to stay beside Cybele but soon, I lose to Agatha’s reasoning and decided to just go out and check on the investigation going on. I know I am being awaited there.
Cybele’s revelations have also given me some strong leads that I could use but I am lacking evidence. It's bothering me even though I believe Cybele. On the other hand, the Council is impatiently waiting to meet me and I am very much aware that they aren’t happy to know that I have put them on hold so that I could attend to my mate.
I climb down a couple of floors in the hospital building before heading to the mortuary where the bodies, which we have found around the lake, are being identified. When I enter the place, I am greeted by a very severe looking Davis.
He informs me right away that Dad has gone to talk to the council member while I was with Cybele. It’s almost around midnight and the very meeting for which they have come to my pack is pending. I have no mood to sit down with them and talk about pack matters when someone has tried to harm my mate and now, I know who that is.
I decide to have a look at the bodies next. The faces have been very badly destroyed beyond recognition but I know who they belong to. The doctor who has been trying to clean the wounds and sew things up to make the identification process easier, looks at me before glancing at Davis once.
“So far, I have recognized that lad,” The old wolf says, pointing to the other body that lays uncovered just a few feet away. I don’t have to look at it to know to whom it belongs.
“That’s Dolan Piers,” My words push the doctor into bewilderment but he nods anyway to confirm that I am right.
“But this face, it’s severely destroyed. Some parts of the face are missing. I think we’d have to identify him by the DNA or the fingerprints,” The doctor speaks but I shake my head at him and tell him simply, “No need for that. I already know who that is,”
This time, Davis asks out of bewilderment, “Who is that? And how do you know about them?” I don’t miss the anger laced in his voice. This incident has affected him as much as it has affected me. Afterall, Cybele is a part of my pack and my family. We are not going to tolerate someone trying to harm her.
“You can easily guess who that could be,” I speak to Davis with a light nod towards the body to which the doctor is currently attending to and add, “And Cybele told me everything,”
At my words, I see the wrinkles on Davis’ forehead relax. I don’t miss the exact moment when the realization finally dawns upon Davis.
“I will kill Tiffany,” He grits angrily while clenching his fists.
“No need of that. I am going to strip her of her wolf and throw her out of the pack,” I tell him firmly whilst fighting to keep calm. There’s a storm raging inside me and I am just a few thoughts away to finding Tiffany and taking her life away.
“Where’s that bitch anyway?” Davis asks.
“I don’t know but she’ll soon come looking. I assure of that,”
“I’ll kill her then,”
“Davis, no,” I tell him but the way his eyes darken, I know that his wolf is already fighting for control. He grinds his teeth as he glances at Tiffany’s brother’s body for the last time.
“What’s the situation with Council?” I couldn’t help but ask with this new anxiety that bubbles inside me. I know that this incident is definitely going to put a bad impression of my pack on them and it might reflect on the reports.
“They still have their heads in their asses,” Davis answers me with the same dark tone. I know that he hasn’t calmed down yet. I cannot do anything in this matter but tell him to find Brooke but this situation requires that I have him beside me.
“I am no surprised,” I mutter before walking out of the morgue. Just at the entrance of the hospital, I spot Tiffany’s family looking for their son. I suppose the news of the discovery of the bodies has already spread in the whole pack. I freeze on my steps as soon as Tiffany’s father’s eyes lock with mine.
He’s a tall wolf and one of the pack officials. He’s quite famous among the pack due to some official scandals that had led him to be thrown out of his previous pack. He was accepted in this pack when my father was the beta and we weren’t born yet.
Even though he has settled here, people from our pack have always doubted him and his family. It's no surprise that Tiffany belongs to that family. Tiffany’s mother, a tall and pale woman stands beside his mate but as soon as she sees me, she rushes to me and demands, “Where’s my son?”
I don’t miss the loathing in her eyes. I ground my teeth and ask her, but calmly, “Where’s your daughter?”
“Just answer her,” Tiffany’s father has the audacity to growl at me. At this sign of disrespect, my wolf pushes past my barrier of self-control and growls back at him but more aggressively, “Don’t you dare growl at me!”
It instantly reminds his wolf of my position and unconsciously, he lowers his eyes in submission but I don’t miss the ticking muscle in his jaw.
“Your son is dead,” I tell him, “Your daughter might meet the same fate soon,” At my words, her mother gasps before I walk out of the hospital building. It takes me a lot of self-control to not let my wolf out and let him cause havoc. He’s still very mad.
Whilst I am heading towards the administrative building where the council is waiting for me, I am approached by Brooke. She comes running at me with her face glowing with excitement.
“I have found some camera footage before Cybele’s disappearance,” She tells me with a smug look. I couldn’t hold back the smile from climbing on my lips. I don’t waste a moment to follow Brooke to the Pack Security Control room.
There I am being shown footage where Cybele is approaching administrative building but she is approached by Tiffany’s brother – who says something to Cybele before leading her away. This footage is aligning with everything Cybele has told me.
“What took so long to find this?” I ask the head of the security department.
“Our systems were automatically set for an update after afternoon. It’s impossible to access anything when there’s an update going on. The update process just finished an hour ago. We instantly got to check all the footage from around the time Beta female went missing and we found this,” He points to the screen we were currently looking at, "and this." He points to another screen at the left.
He presses the play button as I shit to the new screen. It's recorded by another camera, set up behind an unabandoned packhouse. In the footage, I see Cybele at the edge of the woods, just behind the abandoned packhouse, talking to Tiffany’s brother before Dolan approaches from the back and hits her in the head with a rod.
The footage is enough to set my blood boiling but at the same time, I am satisfied because I have enough evidence to screw Tiffany in every way.
