-HER-
I let out a cry of fear due to the inhumane speed. He instantly slows down. Even though I am scared, I am aware not to tug his fir too painfully.
“That was too fast,” I mumble, hugging him from behind. He grunts lowly before continuing to jog. I don’t know how long he has been running but I am slowly starting to enjoy the morning air rushing past my face and playing with my hair.
Through the gaps of the trees, I am able to spot a white building and I soon realize that it’s the place where Jake had brought me the night he told me everything. Currently, he seems to be running towards it.
He slows down when the temple gets closer. He walks to the temple after stepping out into the clearing. I climb off his wolf when a man steps out of the sacred building with something in his hands. His eyes find us instantly.
Jake’s wolf gives me a lingering look before he walks to the man takes the thing from his hand and disappears behind the building. I am left staring at the man awkwardly. He lightly bows at me before he too disappears inside the building.
I hear the same snapping of bones before Jake steps in front of my eyes with a trouser hanging very low on his hips. His eyes are set on me as he stalks towards me, reminding very much of his wolf.
He instantly wraps his arm around me possessive before pressing his lips against mine.
“Did I scare you?” He asks against my lips. His voice is deeper. I pull back a bit and stare at him. Soon, the realization hits me that it’s his wolf talking through him.
“You run too fast,” I mumble and a smile instantly climbs on his lips before he kisses me again but deeply. I am starting to notice Lisa’s words coming true. Most of the things she had told me about wolves were slowly coming true, especially the bit about mates being possessive.
His arm is always around me as he takes me towards a small trail leading away from the temple.
“Where are we going?” I couldn’t help but ask him. He looks down at me fervently before smiling lightly. “To the campsite,” He answers.
“It’s too far. Would we need to walk to this place?”
“There’s actually a shortcut,” He tells me, “You’ll find out soon,” I let his words sink in while I take the place in. It looks more beautiful and tranquil in the morning. We soon reach a big clearing. Some guys are already there, setting up stalls and small camps.
Jake looks at the preparations and talks to the guys with his arm around him. I try to step away from him but it only tightens. After looking around a bit, we walk back to the temple.
“Are we going back to the pack?” I ask him and he nods.
“Did you like my wolf?” He inquires heatedly, seduction is audibly laced in his voice. My stomach dips at his question before I mumble a ‘yes’. He looks satisfied with my answer before leaving to phase again.
He runs back to the pack with me on his back. Though this time, I am somewhat comfortable with him running fast. When we get back home, no one seems to be up yet. We silently climb upstairs to his bedroom.
“What are you going to do now?” I ask him soon after we are back into his room. He smirks at me. Maintaining his heated stare, he asks, “What do you want me to do with you?”
I couldn’t help the blood rushing to my cheeks at his words. “I meant what work do you have next,” I mumble, sinking deeper and deeper into embarrassment. He chuckles lightly before teasing, “I am going for a shower. Do you want to join?”
“No, thanks,” I try to sound determined but my redness gives everything away. He chuckles at me before stepping into the bathroom. While he showers, I check my phone. I answer some texts from mum before he is out.
I shower while he gets dressed. He is again waiting for me when I step out of the bathroom. He stares at me heatedly as I brush my hair.
“You smell like me,” He grumbles after snatching me on his bed and kissing me heatedly. Before he could start another make-out session, I ask him, “What duties do you have for today?” This seems to have distracted him for a moment.
“I generally go for training at this time but since there’s a lot of work today, I will skip it and go to the office straight,” He tells me.
“Can I come with you?” I ask him curiously, “I want to see a day in the Beta’s life,”
“Why not?” With that, I am being showered with kisses. After he’s done with me, we head downstairs for breakfast. A very groggy Davis is sitting on the kitchen island, sipping his coffee while Brooke seems to be cooking up a storm in the kitchen.
“Good morning,” Brooke chirps. We greet her back before I ask her, “Do you need some help?”
“No, I am almost done with everything,” She says with a grin before she turns to her pan. I end up sitting beside Jake, who is talking to Davis. He instantly places his hand on my thigh possessively, although he continues to talk to his brother.
Davis doesn’t seem like a morning person. While I drink my coffee, Jake is telling all the things that Davis needs to get done today. I don’t miss how commanding Jake sounds, meanwhile, a frown is decorating on Davis’ face. He clearly doesn’t seem very happy with all the work.
Soon June and Jake’s father, Cy, joins us and we have breakfast together. After that, Jake takes me to his office which is downstairs and at the back of the house. The huge glass wall in his office faces the woods.
“Do you like it?” He asks, seeing the look of surprise decorating my face. I turn to him with a huge grin, “Yes,”
“Do you have any plans to vandalize this place?” He teases.
“I don’t think I don’t need to do that anymore,” I comment, peering at him through my eyelashes. His eyes instantly darken before he takes a step closer to me.
“What’s that?” I ask him when things seem to be getting heated between us. His eyes linger on me for some seconds longer before he looks at the huge symbol engraved on the wall at the other end of the room.
“That’s the symbol of our pack,” He answers.
“Oh,” My curiosity is back now. Jake answers my questions before he gets to work. Or at least he tries to, because he is constantly getting distracted by my presence.
“You’re supposed to work, Jake,” I have to remind him when he’d abandon his work and turn his attention solely towards me. His groan is followed by my giggle. I try to help him as much as I can. It reminds me of the time when I was helping him organize his office once again.
“Ohhh, Jake!” A feminine voice is all we hear before its owner walks into the office. I instantly recognize her. I have seen her enough times in the college to not recognize her.
It’s Tiffany.
