Chapter 11

I glanced around at the darkened land and thought of myself that at that moment there was a good possibility that A coven existed in our pack, out there in our territories. Somehow, the night made everything a little more fictional. It turned everything to muted shades of gray, like an old Boris Karloff film, and cast shadows that hid unspeakable things in my black depths.

I was sure that the next day, when the time came to return to the world of sunshine plastic, and some shiny chrome, it would be a ridiculous impossibility, but at that moment why would there be witches storming the earth?

"You should have brought with you the sword, maybe," my trembling voice betrayed my fear. "It wouldn't do a lot of good out here in the open. Besides, it would be hard to explain should someone see us."

"Of course," Someone running around with a sword would completely look a little out of place, to say the least. In fact, a guy who lived in an abandoned temple and owned a sword would be weird enough. It could be all weird and creepy.

Without anything to say, we walked in silence for some time. I left fear and silence to dominate our walk. I suddenly drew short and cried out. "My baby!" D stopped and surprisingly looked at me as though I was having fit.

"What?"

"My little red car- It is still back there, I have to get it. I can't just leave it abandoned in the middle of nowhere overnight. What if somebody snatches it, or maybe it gets vandalized?" I imagine explaining to the insurance company what had happened and trying to reason with them that the damage should be covered by my insurance plan. After all, a coven was not an act of God or even the goddess.

"If you want to," he said nonchalantly and continued to walk. "But am not going back" "Are you even serious?" I stomped my foot childishly. The thought of walking back through the trees alone was out of the question. I had done enough stupid things for one night. "What about my car sir?" I insisted as I followed him.

He didn't even dare to look back. I scrawled and hurried to fall into a step beside him. "What will I do if they Trish it?" " Most probably get a new one!" He answered rudely. "There are a lot of cars in the world." " I am sure, it is very easy for you to say. I mean you are living out there in the middle of nowhere. You don't even have access to electricity. How would you understand? And why?"

"Yes, very easy for me to say." He stared straight ahead and didn't bother to glance at me as he spoke. "I have owned cars and I have been without cars. Either way, I have always managed. I lived in a house filled with a huge amount of wealth, and hovels without even the comfort of a wooden door. The temple, my place would burn to the ground and I would have to find another. None of it is important, there are only a few things that one needs to survive in this world."

"Well, yes: but how am I going to get home without one?" His eyes flicked to me. "I would suggest that you don't go home until the full moon." I quickly opened my mouth to argue, but he continued, "At least not until the sun has been up for an hour or more. And if I were you, I would go only to save my possession and the biggest of it all my inheritance before I moved."

I stopped dead on my attacks and exploded, "Move? I'm not moving, I have just lived in that apartment for three weeks. I like it already!"

"All the more reason. A change of scenery does one good, you know." His voice was steady and reasonable, and he glanced back at me. "Besides, if they knew where Jack loved, and he most probably knew where you live. That is something that you do not want it to happen, don't you? You never want them to know where you live." "You don't really think they'd..." I didn't like to say the next words, though I wasn't sure what they would be. Kill me? Maim me? Hurt me? All of these were viable possibilities, especially at the moment when I almost believed it all. They wouldn't, really?

D nodded calmly. "Yes, I think they would. You were Jack's lover, he is now gone. It makes some sense you would get involved to see revenge. You have witnessed the things the monsters are capable of. If they find you it won't be good, I can confirm that. His death would look tidy compared to what am trying to imagine they will do to you."

My hand went to my throat unconsciously. "I thought you said that your premise would burn to the ground? Sincerely, will they survive the fire?"

"Yes it will burn, and no, they cannot survive fire, but a number of them will undoubtedly escape." He seemed almost resigned. "They will get out and take Simeone with them and go before the mother witch with their story. Maybe Ortiz will be forgiven if he happens to guess where they can find you!"

I had nothing left to say, my feet were already aching. I had to force myself to walk onward with the reminder that bloodthirsty witches could be following us.

I checked my watch to find out that it was nearly midnight. I sighed deeply and wondered if that night was to ever end it was just to continue forever in the world of darkness and absurdities. It surely was a scary night. It was calm, the weather was perfect but I could hear some roaring voices from a distance. My heart pounded with fear that any moment, we would be gone and followed Jack.
