Chapter 51

I woke up startled, and when I turned around, I saw Belle sleeping peacefully. Her lips were red, and her cheeks were slightly flushed. Once again, an impulse pushed me... the same one that had compelled me to bring her into my bed. I covered her with the sheet and murmured.

"How will I manage to let you go now if you never leave my mind?" It was her voice... and for some reason, it seemed sweet and sincere.

The softness of a clean bed and the scent of sweet cologne, Mr. Cesar's scent, woke me up. I opened my eyes, and then memories flooded my mind. I quickly sat up, looking for him in the room, but I was alone. What did this mean? That I was nothing more than someone to have fun with… I pushed the sheets aside and realized I had my bra on, but my panties were gone.

"Oh my God, I really looked like his lover…" I got up, feeling bad about myself. I had made a mistake, the mistake of wanting to confirm what I didn't understand, that strange feeling that kept drawing me to this man who was two sides of the same coin. Which one was real?

I took a robe that was on top of a piece of furniture and put it on to cover my shame. If Mr. Cesar wasn't here, it was because he considered me a fun fling, nothing I hadn't already imagined… and in a way, I was grateful because even I didn't know what he meant to me. Part of me had learned to hate him, and another… another couldn't stop watching him. Suddenly, I saw a note on the nightstand. I took it.

"This… was for me." I opened it, and an elegant, well-written script, clearly Cesar's, caught my eye.

"I have a lot of work to do, don't go back to that filthy cabin and wait for me at home until I get there, I need to talk to you."

What was he talking about? How did he expect me to stay here? This man was maddening. What was the point of making me feel like his beloved? Wasn't it more reasonable to forget all this and leave it as a nightmare I should never have crossed?

"Miss Belle, it's Joffre, I've brought you breakfast."

"Come in, Joffre." Upon entering, I placed the tray on the table, and excitedly, she approached.

"Gulliver! You're looking more handsome. Have you been eating well?" No matter how I looked at it, I couldn't understand how Mr. Cesar kept bringing this woman into his life. I thought she was just another amusement. What the hell does he plan to do with this woman?

"Have you been good, Gulliver? You can't jump on the fine fabrics again." I watched her coldly, without understanding anything. Even Master Cesar was acting strange this morning when he left.

***Hours earlier

"—Master Cesar! Do you really want that woman to stay in the mansion? With all those rumors swirling around, they'll start coming out into the open very soon."

"Listen to me carefully, Joffre. Make sure Belle doesn't go back to that filthy place, and as for the rumors… maybe they're not so far from the truth. Let them be… I'll think about whether it's a problem later."*
