Chapter Twenty-Four

Quazzi pov

Her depression lasted for weeks. I was glad when Ethar began making appearances again as he planned to celebrate his brothers life with or without a body.

I couldn’t handle seeing her like this any longer. I entered the room and she sat in the same spot she always sat. I walked over to her near the window.

It was a long shot, but I placed my hand on her belly. Suprisingly I was still able to focus my energy. hissed an protruded her fangs but it was too late.

I pulled the babies kicks to the surface through the darkness and she starred in confusion.

“You feel that. That’s your child kicking inside you. Iliam and Ethar’s child, Yours. I will not watch you and my grand baby waste away.” I demanded and I grabbed her arms and stood her up.

“Tonight is Iliam’s life celebration. You grace the pack with your presence as Luna and assure the pack that the living heir is alive and well and kicking strongly inside you.” I ordered not giving her a chance to respond as she just stared. I continued my rant.

“You will eat, you will feed your child. You don’t have to do it with a smile on your face, but you WILL! do it, or so help me goddess I will put you and that child out of its misery.” I spat before walking to the closet pulling out a blue long sleeve gown and throwing it on the bed.

I went to exit the room when her weak voice startled me.

“Wait.” She dryly whispered.

I turned and faced her. And her eyes were shining bright green again as I saw my babies eyes fill with tears.

“Will you stay and help me.” She choked out.

I ran to her and wrapped her tightly as she sobbed uncontrollably.

“That’s right baby let it out.” I said rubbing her hair back from her face.

“I miss him so much.” She cried against my chest.

“I know baby. I know.”

Ethar’s pov

I was pulled from the laughters and cries of the celebration as our attention was turned to the double doors of the dining hall.

I stood up abruptly as I watched Quazzi enter with her arm looped through Zions. She had her hair pinned up, the bright color hadn’t retuned and she was still unbelievably thin. But her eyes, her beautiful green eyes shined again. For the first time in weeks I felt hopeful. I rushed over to her chair at the head of the table and pulled it out , she grabbed my hand as she struggled to sit down and I felt the bond tingle through me as she touched me. She sat down and looked up at me and I wanted to cry right then.

“Thank you.” She whispered out.

Everyone howled as they caught sight of their Luna and heir to the throne since Iliam’s passing.

As the evening went on I found myself glancing in her direction every five minutes to check on her as she picked at her food. I wished she would let me feel the baby , but I didn’t want to push her. Just having her next to me was enough for now.

“What did he always say to me when I pissed him off.” Leo chuckles as he recalled Iliam’s best moments.

“You little shit!” I responded and the table erupted in laughter.

“Wait what about the time he kicked the generals face in and Ethar begged him to keep his temper in check. He was crazy as hell but when it came to us he would do anything.” Toto recalled, eliciting a somber silence as we all remembered my brother.

The silence was broken when Zion stood up from her seat.

Everyone got to their feet as they noticed.

“If you would excuse me.” She whispered and turned to leave.

Pure instinct made me stand and grab her arm.

She met my eyes. Just like the green in her eyes my new found hope faded with them as her eyes went red again.

The splash of liquid beneath us combined with her painful scream had everyone stand at attention.

“It’s time!” Quazzi yelled out.

Her labor went of for hours before the Seb and the other healers were contemplating to cut the child out, because she was struggling to push. She had let her body grow so weak. I feared she or my child would survive it or if she would heal after.

I sat in Iliam’s old room clutching a bottle of whiskey like a life line.

With every sip I took in lungfuls of his scent.

“Not matter we faced, we would face it together remember.” I slurred mocking Iliam’s promise.

“I know you hear me you son of a bitch!” I yelled into the empty room.

“You promised me.. what the fuck do we do now!” I pleaded for an answer to nothing but air and space surrounding me.

Zions pov

“You need to push baby,” my mom whispered against my head.

I wanted to, I really did, but couldn’t find the strength.

I had used a tremendous amount of energy preserving my mates body, and Mi sacrificed herself so I could do so. I hadn’t fed in weeks so the pull on my vampirism was weak. I had nothing left to give, and if I died right here on the bed it wouldn’t be so bad. At least the pain would cease. I didn’t want give up on the baby though I wanted to make sure the child made it through.

The strongest contraction radiated through me and I cried out in pain. I felt my eyes flutter and I welcomed the darkness that consumed me.

“My dear child.” I heard the woman’s voice in my head.

“You have completely given up, and the best part is still yet to come.” She chuckled.

Best part? I had lost Iliam and I couldn’t even look Ethar in the face anymore after he did little to nothing watching my mate die in my arms. Not to mention the darkness I took from Ethar all but consumed me. Oh yeah! and I was dying. What the fuck was good about any of this?

With a bright red flash of light, The tall red headed Goddess Hella manifested in front of me.

“Promise me the second born child. On the child’s eighteenth birthday I will come for her and she will accept and ascend to my throne.” She bargained

“Do this, I will give you the power you seek to revive you mate, and welcome your children into the world.” She promised.

“I will not promise any of my children to you. And who is to say she will accept anyway.” I retorted

“Once she ascends she can do what she wills with her power, but make no mistake this is your only way to make it back. And you will see to it that I get what is promised.” She said and pointed to the void of darkness.

The darkness morphed into a bright white vision of two twin girls no more than four years old playing with Royal in the garden. The scene changed to both my mates and I walking toward the garden. Iliam picked up the blonde haired little girl and Ethar picked the dark haired one up and grabbed Royal’s hand as they headed to the dining hall. I watched them walk away the children in fits and giggles.

The scene made my heart warm and flutter, as tears fell from my eyes.

The scene changed again and I starred down at my lifeless body on the hospital bed , Seb stood above me using her magic to try and wake me. I watched Seb call in an army of nurses as she prepared to cut me open.

“Times ticking love.” She whispered against my ear.

I shut my eyes and spoke the words. “ I accept.”

I felt my soul whipping through time as I was thrown back into my body. My eyes shot open and I inhaled a deep breath.

“Ahhhhhhhhh!” I screamed as I immediately let out a huge push. The scream brought the staff to their knees.

The blood in my veins boiled and I watched the light in the room shine and flicker brightly before the entire hospital went dark.

Ethar’s pov

The light that peered beneath the crack in the door began to flicker before it went dark. I didn’t bother to move quickly since I had already been sitting in the darkness for sometime.

I stumbled to my feet and swayed toward the door in a drunken haze. A familiar chuckle made my ears perk up, and I thought I was going mad. My senses cleared as I turned around to find the source with no hope of actually finding it.

“All this fuss over little old me.” He said grinning.

I almost fainted at the sight of the ghost standing in front of me. He walked toward me and placed his hand on my shoulder, I focused my eyes and they met his.

“You… you were… How.. I watched you die!” The words stubbled out my mouth in disbelief.

“I will explain later, first let’s go meet our daughters.” He said and smiled before turning me around and ushering me out the door.
