Chapter Seven
Anar’s POV
Against every instinct I had, I followed Liah inside the cottage. This went against everything I was taught. If anything were to happen, our advantage would be in open space, but that was out the window as soon as we walked inside. We were on their turf now, and totally at their mercy.
Ohthere motioned to the living room, Taliah and I took a seat. Ohthere took a seat across from us and the other guy just stood there like he was the dudes bodyguard or something. Although his uneasiness was warranted since we are strangers that just popped up out of no where asking questions. Still the guy needed to calm down. I know how much this encounter means to my mate; he could at least respect it.
“My friends name is Kai, don’t worry he is harmless.” Ohthere assured us as he noticed Taliah still glaring at him. I wasn’t so sure if what he was saying was true, Kai was definitely bad news, I just didn’t know in exactly what way yet.
Taliah explained the reason for our visit once more, without any more outbursts from Kai thank God. Ohthere asked many questions and Taliah did her best to answer them all. According to Ohthere he had no idea there were still pack settlements. He had lived here since the world broke and hasn’t really had any outside contact. It made sense, if he was this far out and alone, his main goal would be to keep the monsters at bay and survive. What the rest of the world was doing would be of no concern to him.
Kai seemed to be listening intently to the conversation, trying to put the pieces together as best he could too. It wasn’t like he was being aggressive, and he wasn’t being disrespectful anymore, but every time he looked at my mate, I could feel my blood boiling. I wanted to take her hand and just run the fuck up out of here and never look back.
“I know it’s a lot to take in, and I’m not expecting you to give me an answer right away, I do hope you will still come with me and see for yourself.” Taliah explained.
“Come with me to Bloodmoon and then make up your mind.” She pleaded.
“We’ll come.” Ohthere exclaimed and we were all shocked by the sudden confession. Kai most of all. His eyes darted to Ohthere and he starred as if he wanted to knock him out.
“You guys should stay the night here, it is getting late, and its not safe to travel at night.” Ohthere said as he stood up.
“Thanks for the offer, but without a barrier you know it isn’t safe to be gathered in groups.” I explained as I stood up confidently.
“There is one, don’t worry. We will get a room prepared. We will leave first thing in the morning.” Ohthere said shaking his head like what I had just said was the most outrageous thing he ever heard.
“I didn’t feel a barrier.” I whispered as I sunk back down on the couch next to my mate.
“It depends on the magic.” Taliah explained as I sat there defeated thinking how I will never understand anything about the supernatural world.
Taliah’s POV
“Come on Kai.” Ohthere said grabbing Kai by the arm. Kai reluctantly rose to his feet and followed.
“Can you stop volunteering me for shit.” He said to Ohthere as they walked past.
“I guess I should thank him.” Anar said chuckling.
“Why is that?” I questioned as a mischievous grin formed on his lips.
“Seeing as we will be roomies tonight.” He said wiggling his brows.
“So what? Try anything and I’ll rip you throat out.” I said squeezing his cheek teasingly. I laughed as his smile faded and turned to fear and he gulped.
Ohthere made the room up for us before he and Anar went to bring the truck near house inside the barrier.
I walked around exploring the cottage, it was my type of place. It was huge but nothing too flashy. Looking around it was very minimalistic, and cozy. I walked out the back porch, and I could see the huge garden, just like wolves they grew their own food, I could even see the grapes where I’m guessing they even make their own wine. My admiration for the fine work was interrupted by the annoying sound of the lighter and the tobacco burning on the end of his cigarette.
I turned to see him sitting on the railing watching me. I shot him a look of disgust and turned my attention back to the garden. I heard him chuckle before I caught the sight of something else interesting. Just like wolves they grew their own tobacco, that explains where they got the smokes from.
Wait! Just like wolves? I thought to myself remembering the scent I caught when I first noticed him, his strange eyes and unfamiliar aura.
I snapped my eyes back to Kai, his strange eyes glowing brightly. In the cover of night all you could see were his eyes and the cherry burning from his cigarette. Because of my wolf sight though I could see him clearly. I could see every ridge of his body trying to break free from his shirt. From the veins the snaked around his forearms to his jet-black hair hanging just above his thick dark brows.
He let out a deep sigh before he stood. He took what seemed like slow motion steps toward me. My body stood there glued to the spot I was in, the only thing that moved was my head as I starred up at him towering above me. He exhaled and his ice-cold breath made my body shiver. As my eyes studied his face, the color of his lips began to fade, the pink flesh color was slowly replaced by a deep purple shade that matched his eyes. If I didn’t know any better, I would think a walking corpse stood in front of me right now.
Involuntarily my hand slowly rose and reached the side of his face. The most intense sensation ran from his skin to my fingertips.
“What are you?” I whispered as I felt a warm tear trickle down my cheek. His violet lips tugged up into a smile. He lent in closer, and I still couldn’t move. I felt his cold breath against my ear as whispered.
“Are you afraid?” He whispered gently. I shook my head as he pulled back. His eyes met mine and his smile had disappeared.
“You should be.” He said grabbing my hand from his cheek. His voiced had changed from the gentle seductive tone, to an icy etheric one that felt like one only I could hear. He wiped the tear from cheek gently and the only sound in the dead night was his retreating footsteps as he walked inside the house.
As I entered the house, Anar and Ohthere were coming inside with our belongings. I watched Anar drop the bags on the floor and hurry toward me. I hadn’t noticed my hands were shaking and tears were still trickling out somehow.
“Taliah, what the fuck happened?” “Are you okay.” Anar questioned franticly, yet Ohthere was unfazed, like he was witnessing something as normal as the sun rising.
My eyes met his “What is he?” I questioned and Anar’s attention snapped to Ohthere with confusion.
“A weapon.” Ohthere stated sternly like he had given the best explanation there was to give.
