Chapter Twenty-Nine

Zion’s pov

I knew Leo hadn’t enacted his revenge yet, but it doesn’t really matter why. No was pressuring him, he is a Beta, and the culprit was his mate, he had every right to do with her as he pleased.

I hadn’t seen him two days. He had been staying clear of the mansion. Iliam told me he went to check on him and he looked like shit. I had been busy preparing for the spell. Ethar wanted it to be more of a ceremony since we were sending our children willing to a void of my making. They would be gone just until we found a way to deal with Hella. Ethar’s idea was fitting, since I was able to control my magic with Leo’s help, I knew I could give them beautiful home for the mean time.

“I want to go with them” Iliam stated. Even though I knew the girls would welcome his presence. I don’t think I can bare to lose him for a second time. I wasn’t even losing him, I knew he would be back but still I needed him here. One reason was to make sure he wouldn’t Poof! And disappear. I wasn’t sure if the Hella still had power over him being here.

“I understand you want to be with the girls, but Iliam I cannot afford to you to absent. There are a lot of things that we need done here, and I need your help.” Ethar said after he pondered it for a while.

“We will ask for volunteers,” I said, I knew I would have to explain to him, however I didn’t exactly know what to say.

“I can’t lose you, I whispered to myself. He looked at me confused.

“If that’s the case ask through the mind link.” Iliam said. If he was sure people were willing to go then, he wouldn’t have asked me. He wanted to make sure I wasn’t lying. If the right people had volunteered, he would be content, but he wasn’t sure.

“Let’s just wait. We can’t just send anyone it has to be people we trust. If you have any ideas, you can go ahead and bring the question to that person.” Ethar stated.
“I will ask my parents.” I spoke. Ethar nodded and Iliam pondered who he would ask.

“One of the children’s parents has to go with them, this just isn’t right.” Iliam argued as he stood of from hi seat in the office.

“Its not up for discussion Iliam.” Ethar said as he also stood.

“I am no longer your Beta Ethar, I can choose for myself.” Iliam retorted. This had turned from a discussion to an argument quick.

“My love please think about..” I began to say, but Iliam cut me off.

“I love you both dearly, but we can’t think of our own fucking needs right now, we have kids. They should come first.” Iliam said his eyes dating between me and Ethar.

“Fine, I will go, you will stay with our mate.” Ethar decided, and we both snapped our attention to Ethar.

Iliam rolled his eyes, but he didn’t seem to understand that Ethar was in no joking mood.

“Yeah and what of the pack, I can’t lead the pack on my...” He went to say but this time Ethar cut him off.

“You are no longer a Beta Iliam. You want to be treated as Alpha right? So be the Alpha.” Ethar ordered.

“Well.” I said standing up and walking between them. Ethar was using this opportunity to punish him, and I think me and Iliam both knew that much. I had no intention of putting up a fight with Ethar about his decision. The tension had grown too thick.

“If this is going to be our last night together. Let us not sped it arguing with each other.” I told them. Ethar could use a break from this life. He had lived it long and hard. Ethar seemed to be fighting since he was born. So much pressure was on him all the time. With his promise to love and protect me and bring the world to its knees reigned true. Anyone that stood in between us and our happiness, was struck down. He deserved this.

The next morning was anything but a joyful day. The conversations I caught wind of through the pack link saddened me. Bloodmoon felt as if they were losing their Alpha. I couldn’t help but share their feelings. I knew it was for the best, but again be separated from my mate was not a welcome thought.

I got ready for the day and decided to go meet Leo to make sure we were both prepared for the ceremony.

I was surprised when he opened the door. He looked well rested, clean-cut hair and his mahogany scent was strong.

“What a welcome sight dear sister.” He said smiling.

“The same could be said to you brother.” I responded hugging him tightly.

He walked me inside and prepared some tea. We sat in his living room; the décor resembled the forest. Everything was dark green, and the furniture was deep chocolate brown.

“Here, drink this. It will amplify our abilities. We need to be strong if we our gonna give them something nice. I will help you make the necessary adjustments since I know what it was like in the first one.” He said handing me a mug.

We sipped our tea that tasted more like mud and dirt, but I could feel it working, as the magic tingled inside me. I jumped at the sound of banging coming from below us. Me and Leo’s eyes met.

“Cas?” I questioned, and he nodded taking another sip finishing his mug.

“Can I ask why she is still breathing?” I questioned. He took a deep breath and set his mug down before he spoke.

“She says she pregnant. I haven’t heard a heartbeat or anything. I had Seb check, but she said her findings were inconclusive.” He explained.

“In conclusive? What does that mean?” I asked.

“Yeah, she said she could feel a life signature, but it wasn’t strong enough to confirm a pregnancy. The thing is how would Cas even know if Seb doesn’t.” He spoke.

“Well, that’s new. I understand you hesitation.” I said finishing my mug.

“Anyway, let’s get going, I’m sure everyone is waiting.” He spoke. He washed the mugs and we headed out.

Ethar’s POV

Everyone was in attendance in the hall. This hall held some very bad memories as of late, and I was eager to get it all over with. Zion assured me should mirrored the void from her depiction of our home here. Quazzi and Nigel had agreed to go with us, which was a good thing for me. I had come to understand from Leo how hard it was not having anyone around besides your parents.

Zion and Iliam stood next to me, holding Gia and Taliah as I addressed the crowd.

“Thank you all for being here. It pleases me that I had you all by my side for all these years. We have come to this decision together, in order to protect our children, and the future heirs to the pack. I leave you all in the good hands of your Alpha and Your Luna. I expected you all to treat them with the same loyalty and respect you have shown me over the years.” I said addressing the pack.

The pack howls of approval shook the entire room. The underlying sadness touched my heart. They were all my family, and it was very moving that letting me go did not come easy to them.

We walked out the hall, and the pack followed. We made our way to the clearing and took our position. The others stood back, and Zion and Leo stood in front of me and the Calhouns while they held the children.

Zion approached me, I grabbed her by her waist and pulled her in close. She stood up on her toes and kissed me deeply. I felt the sadness through the bond and respnded to her kiss with vigor. I was going to miss this. The touch her skin, her sweet scent, her soft lips on mine, on my body, and mine on hers. She was the light in my life and my reason for it after a while. However, she had now given me two new reasons to live, love and laugh, and it was our duty to protect them.

No matter the cost.

Zion and Leo grabbed hands and put their other hand on their parents’ shoulder. I took the Calhouns free hands in mine. Zion and Leo began the chant. The cold burn of their magic seeped into my veins. When I looked around, I saw the pack members kneeling, I realized that they weren’t just kneeing but they were being drawn from. I saw the blood running from their faces, but no one moved, they let my mate and my beta draw on them willingly and they didn’t look like they were in pain.

I shut my eyes as I felt the pull as my body was being transported. My heart pounded as I felt something else. Something was wrong, pain radiated through me as light flicked beyond my eyelids. My hart felt like it was being ripped in pieces. Sweat was dripping from my forehead as I went to my knees. The mark on my neck burned with the ferocity of an actual flame.

“No, stop the spell.” I tried to say but it was too late. I opened my eyes and I was on the grass in the same clearing but no one was there except Quazzi and Nigel that were hovering over me clutching the children.

“Alpha what happened are you okay?” Nigel said as he used his free hand to sit me up.

I wiped the sweat from head and tears from eyes. I reached my hand to my neck and sat horrified at the realization.

“The bond broke.” I whispered. The Calhouns helped me to feet.

What did this mean? Did she feel it too? Was she hurting? Did she think she killed me?

I instantly regrated the whole ordeal. This was bad, no connection to the outside world. Not knowing or being able to let her know that I was okay. What the fuck was going on.
