100 - Cabin

*Moeder, if this is a cabin then the old Hancock place needs a serious update, and you must live in a hovel. - Critter*

Darkness sat on the couch with his niece and nephews as they grieved for having lost their parents. When Camille entered, he had hoped that she was coming in and could offer some guidance as to what he needed to do. Instead, she had asked for his phone and then left again.

Vin’s phone rang and he looked at it and declined the call from his aunt. On the third call he started to decline it again.

“Go ahead and answer it,” Darkness advised.

Moving his thumb, he clicked the green circle and then the speaker phone icon. “Hello?”

“Marvin, it’s Destiny,” came the voice that annoyed Darkness. “Is your uncle and his white bitch there?”

Darkness ground his teeth together and shook his head. Although he did not need to tell his nephew not to admit that they were there.

“No, we haven’t heard anything from them.”

The lie fell from his lips so easily that even Darkness believed it. And they spoke with each of the three kids, multiple times on the drive up. Plus, he was sitting right next to Vin.

Destiny scoffed. “That seems about right. I need you three to pack a bag, I’m coming to get you before they get here.”

The venom in her voice was practically oozing out of the phone.

“Yeah,” Vin said shaking his head. “About how long?”

“I’m maybe five minutes away.”

“Can you grab us something to eat?” Vin asked and Darkness smiled at the stall tactic.

Destiny sighed. “Fine, tell me what you want. I’m here close to the Dairy Shack.”

He quickly listed things that they would typically get from the little burger stand. After she demanded that he text the order to her, he promised to and ended the call.

“I don’t want to go with her,” Mitch said quietly.

Darkness pulled all three kids in close to him and kissed each of them on their heads. Were they too old for such shows of affection? Probably. Did they seem to care? Not at all. Did he care? Not one damn bit.

“Go ahead and pack a bag for a few days, we’re going to stay at a hotel or something,” Darkness told them.

It took them a moment to move out of his embrace. But when Vin stood up, the other two followed. Darkness took a few minutes to calm himself down and then messaged Zydeco.

Tucking his phone into his cut pocket, he headed outside and let Camille know what was going on. He had been warned multiple times that the women in her family were not to be fucked with. The angry determination written on her face made him worry.

When they got to the hospital, she turned to look over the backseat, she gave a command in German and Tink laid back down. Then she got out of the Jeep and walked around to accept a cloth facemask from Celt. After a few words and kisses, he was headed off to the cabin that Sid had rented.

Pulling up to the address, he wondered how this could be called a cabin.

“Holy fuck,” Mitch said from the backseat.

“I’m probably supposed to get onto you for your language,” Darkness admitted as he looked at the four-story hunting lodge. “But, yeah, holy fuck.”

Critter came out of the house and waved at them as he ended a phone call. All four of them stepped out of the Jeep as Critter came down the steps with a grin. He whistled and Tink bolted out of the open door and went straight for him.

“Your mother calls this a cabin?” Darkness asked as the other man gave Tink belly rubs.

“I sent her a picture of it, and she said that she needs to come out and check out the cabin,” he stood up and gave a command in German. Tink ran up the steps and into the house.

“Critter, these are my nephews, Vin and Mitch, and my niece, Nicki.”

Chris grabbed them one at a time and hugged them tight. Nicki wrapped her arms around his waist and gave into the tears that she had been fighting against. Tightening his arms around her, he kissed her temple.

“You go right on and cry, little one,” he assured her as a few other Saints came out.

They quickly emptied the Jeep and guided everyone inside. Critter sat on a couch and held Nicki as she cried. Mitch sat down on the other side of him, and he placed an arm around him.

A middle-aged man with a clean shaved face and head approached Darkness and held out a hand. “Don’t think that we met when you were up. I’m Chowder.”

Darkness accepted the hand and tried not to laugh at the way that the man said Chow Dah. “Darkness.”

“We’ve been told to expect to be here about a week. I’m putting a menu together.”

“Nicki’s allergic to peanuts,” Darkness said.

“I didn’t grab her epi pen,” Vin said as his brown eyes went wide.

“Do you know the dosage?” Chowder asked.

“Yeah,” he pulled out his phone and opened an app. “I don’t know if Mitch has his inhaler.”

“It’s okay,” Darkness assured his nephew as Chowder called Doc and let him know that they were going to send him prescriptions that they would need filled.

By the time that Camille and the other two men arrived, the kids had settled down on the couch together and fallen asleep. After ensuring that they were okay, Darkness took her up to the room that they were staying in and sat on the bed.

She held him to her chest as she stood between his legs. He let the tears flow, grieving his brother, as he held her tight. They stayed like this for several minutes until there was a knock on the door. At Camille’s command to enter, Celt slipped into the room.

“We have an emergency meeting with the judge on Monday to settle custody,” Celt told them softly. “Darkness, I’m sorry for your loss. And I’m sorry for the shit that her family is trying to pull.”

“Thanks,” he mumbled as he turned his head and looked at the other man. “Do you see any issues with the custody agreement?”

“No, it’s just a formality,” Celt assured him. “Bam Bam set up the meeting, justice to justice.”

“Justice?” Darkness asked and Camille chuckled.

“Bam Bam, he takes his little wooden hammer and goes Bam Bam,” Celt said as he mimed a judge hitting his gavel. “He’s a Justice of the Peace for city of Eastvale.”

“Really?”

“He was an Eagle for years, and then he retired from the police force,” Camille giggled. “I think the kids need to hide his leg.”

“I’m sorry,” Darkness leaned back and looked up at her. “What? Hide his leg? What the hell?”

“I’ll go make the subtle hint that he needs to take his leg off,” Celt chuckled. “Chowder is headed to the store in a few if anybody needs anything. Doc has sent in the prescriptions, and they are being filled through your insurance.”

“Thanks, Celt,” she smiled at him.

Walking over, he kissed her temple. “Anytime, Worm.”

After the door closed behind Celt, Darkness grasped Camille’s chin between his thumb and forefinger, pulling her down for a kiss. She straddled his legs, and he lay back on the bed. Burying his hand in her hair, he grabbed a fistful and pulled her head back a few inches.

“You want to explain Bam Bam and his leg?”

“He retired from the police force after an accident that took his legs. One night when he was over at the Shack, and drunk off his ass, we got him to take them off and we went and hid one. He’s walking around the next morning, carrying one leg, and asking everyone if they’d seen his other leg. It looked just like this one.”

Darkness closed his eyes and shook his head. “I’ve never been around a club like yours.”

“We are pretty unique,” she admitted huskily. “Amos, you either have to let go of my hair, or make sure that the walls are soundproof.”

He pulled her back down to him and nibbled on her lips. “Later, Ma Belle.”

Pressing down against him, she rolled her hips causing him to groan into her mouth. He sat up before standing up, letting her slide down his body as the kiss ended.

“Behave, my beautiful light,” he warned her softly. “Now why are they running the kids’ prescriptions through your insurance?”

“They’ve been on my insurance since the agreement was certified. It guaranteed that they would not have a lapse in coverage,” she shrugged. “For all her weird faults, my mom is thorough in everything she does.”

“Yeah, I have heard her be thorough.”
