183 - Target Run

*Molly can probably pick them out better than I can. - Critter*

For the third day in a row, Camille woke up with an upset stomach. It had happened off and on while she was recovering from being sick, but never multiple days in a row. She never actually threw up, and the last two days it was more of an annoyance than anything else.

Once her stomach settled down, she went to her office to work until the rest of the house was up and moving. Darkness came in and gave her a quick kiss before he headed to the store. With so many of her family members and friends coming over for meals, it was easier to buy food for each meal rather than try to keep enough on hand.

She did not mention that her stomach was bothering her again because she did not want him to worry. Ever since she was really sick last month, he worried over every sniffle and upset stomach that she had. The kids were even worse.

Not that she blamed them.

Hearing people say that Covid was nothing more than a bad flu angered her. She could see the pain that it caused her kids. She had no problems setting people straight on the facts.

As she was working on the flyers and promotional materials for the upcoming car show benefiting the Open Arms Charities, the alarm chirped letting her know that someone was downstairs. Glancing at the Wolf Pack tablet on her desk, she saw two of her brothers come into the house.

Before she settled in at her desk, she had gone downstairs to check on all the kids – hers and the others that had stayed over. She was sure that there were at least a dozen kids asleep in the loft area. After snapping pictures of them and sending them to her brother and sisters, she also sent it to Cookie and Kilo.

*Just need to make sure that the loft is big enough for this…

Kilo had replied with the middle finger emoji and told her that it was too early to be up. Cookie told his cousin to go get his dick sucked and find a better attitude. He then assured their friend and client that she would indeed have plenty of space for the many grandkids in her family.

Her phone continued to ding every so often with the two cousins insulting each other. Occasionally, she glanced at the screen to read the insults. Chuckling at the latest insult, she sat her phone back on the phone stand as her brothers walked into the office.

“That’s quite a group you have down there,” Chris said as he sat a decaf caramel macchiato on her desk.

“Yeah,” she picked it up and started to take a drink. The sweet scent hit her nose, and she gagged as her stomach objected. She placed the cup as far away from her as she dry heaved into the trash can.

“Hey,” Dutch rubbed her back, “you okay?”

Nodding, she put the trashcan back and took a drink of her bottled water. “Ever since I was sick, my stomach has been a little queasy.”

“I remember when you were little and got really sick like that,” Dutch said. “It was several months before you were back to normal.”

Camille waited for Chris to say that she was never normal. The typical insult never came, and she looked over at her other brother. He was looking at her as if he knew something and she was not sure if she wanted to know what he was thinking.

A few hours later, Chris was giving her the same look after she objected to the smell of her favorite cookies that Sid was making. She was debating asking him why he was looking at her like that but then decided not to.

For lunch, they had cold-cut sandwiches and Camille only picked at hers. Most of her family would be flying out later today and she assumed that was why her stomach was upset now. Some of the guys would be back at the end of June to help them move and she was a little nervous about taking the kids away from Baton Rouge.

“Hey,” Chris said as he nudged her shoulder with his own. “I need to go to the store.”

“Okay, keys to my jeep are by the front door,” she told him.

“No,” he shook his head, “I need you to take me.”

She agreed and went to tell Darkness that she was taking her brother to the store. Her husband gave her a quick kiss, barely taking his eyes off the screen where he was beating the musketeers at Mario Kart.

“Can I go?” Nicki asked.

“Not this time,” Chris told his niece before his sister could agree. “I need to talk to her about something.”

“Cryptic,” Camille said as she made a face at her adopted daughter. “We’ll go get out nails done tomorrow.”

“Promise?” she asked, suddenly excited.

“Absolutely,” Camille promised as she kissed the top of the teen’s head.

Outside in her little black Jeep, Camille maneuvered around the other cars and bikes in the driveway and along the curve of the cul-de-sac. Once she was headed out of neighborhood, she asked what store Chris wanted to go to.

“Honestly, I don’t care,” he said turning slightly to look at her. “Going to ask you a few questions.”

“Okay.”

“Do you use condoms?”

“Damn, just jumping in feet first.”

“I work at the free clinic,” he chuckled. “Do you know how many OB/GYN patients we have?”

“Okay, I’ll humor you,” she said, turning to head towards the nearby Target. “Yes, we use condoms and I’m up to date on my shots. Damn that makes me sound like a dog.”

“You said it,” he agreed with a grin. “Use them every time? Especially after you were sick?”

“Every single time.”

“No exceptions?”

“None,” but as soon as she said it, she thought of one time when she was certain that they did not use a condom.

“You just thought of a time that there was no condom.”

Turning onto the road with Target she nodded, “Yeah.”

“After you were sick?”

“The night that we had breakfast for dinner.”

“I was hoping it would have been after we left,” he shrugged.

“It was in my big bathtub,” she grinned.

“Did not need to know that,” he told her dryly. “Did you know that antibiotics can mess with birth control?”

“I thought it was just the pills.”

“Nope,” he said as she pulled in and found a parking spot near the entrance.

“Would it be a bad thing?”

She shook her head, “No, just a little before we planned.”

They got out and he put his arm around her shoulders as they walked in and towards the health section. After buying a test, she went into the bathroom. Several minutes later, she came out and he wrapped her in a hug.

“You won’t tell mom, will you?” she asked quietly.

“It’s not my place.” He assured her.

“I need a minute,” she sighed. “A lot of minutes.”
