185 - Someday
*Eventually, I want to find a woman and settle down. Maybe more than one. Someday, many somedays from now, I even want kids. You just have to run interference for me until then – Chris AKA Critter*
Camille went up the stairs and was only slightly worried about what her brother would do. Chris promised that he would get everyone out of the house and give her some privacy with Darkness. As she climbed the stairs, she imagined what he would tell them.
Knowing her brother, he would probably tell their mother about the pedestal table in her bedroom. If there was a bigger closeted freak in the family, it would be her brother. He enrolled in the early college nursing program through high school so that he could know exactly how much he could inflict on the human body.
He discovered that he enjoyed nursing. He also discovered that lots of nurses were freaks like himself. Long hours, stressful job, whips, chains, slutty women and co-workers with benefits. What more could a young man ask for in a job and coworkers?
Entering their bedroom, Camille gently closed the door behind her. She carried the Target bag over to the bed and sat on the edge. Pulling the test out of the bag, she stared at it knowing that their lives were going to change.
The door opened and closed as the first tears fell from her eyes. The bed dipped as Darkness sat next to her. He slipped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her against him. She turned and buried her face in his chest as she cried.
Darkness held his wife and let her cry. It was not something that she did very often, so he thought that when she did cry, she should be able to do it in peace. A plastic thermometer fell to the floor as she gripped his shirt. He was a little curious about it but figured that she would tell him when she was ready.
After several minutes, she sat up and swiped at the tears on her cheeks. With a little blush, she smiled at him and softly whispered, “Sorry.”
He smoothed her hair and then tucked some behind her ear. His hand slid down to the back of her neck. Leaning in, he kissed her forehead. Resting his forehead against her’s, he smiled at her.
“What are you sorry for?”
“I promise, it’s not bad.” She pulled away slightly and he let his hand fall as she looked around them. Seeing the test on the floor, she slid down to her knees and grabbed it.
Automatically, she moved to the presentation pose and looked up at her husband and Dom. In this position, Camille found herself relaxing. Darkness spread his legs, and she shifted to a kneeling position.
Heat and desire flashed in his eyes before settling into a low burn. She knew that he would push his needs to the back to take care of her. But knowing that she had that power over him, gave her the courage that she needed.
“Critter took me to Target.”
“This is very serious,” he grinned at her.
“How do you know?”
“You called him Critter and not Chris.”
“Well,” she took a deep breath and let it out on a slow sigh. “It’s very important.”
Swallowing hard, she looked at the test in her hands and then offered it to him. He took the object that she offered him and looked at it. Expecting to see a thermometer, it took him a moment to understand what he was looking at.
Once it hit, his eyes widened and a slow smile crept across his face.
“Is this… Are you… Did we….”
She grinned at him, “I think that the answers to those questions are yes, yes and yes. Yes, that is a pregnancy test. Yes, I am pregnant. And yes, we did that.”
“When?” he asked quietly and she could see him trying to figure it out. “We always use condoms, and you get the shot.”
Before she could answer, he yanked her up and gently laid her on the bed. Her shorts were yanked off and her shirt pushed upwards. A giant hand gently caressed her still very flat stomach. Softly, he spoke Creole to their baby before he kissed her belly.
Her small pale hand rested on the back of his dark head. Short nails lightly scraped against his skin as she massaged his scalp. Keeping his hand on her stomach, he moved up to kiss her lips.
Resting his arm on the bed, he looked down at her, “So, how did we do this?” She chuckled. “You know what I mean, I don’t need the mommy and daddy love each other speech.”
“Chris said that the antibiotics probably messed with my birth control. Then we kind of skipped the condom in the bathtub.”
Grinning as if he were remembering that moment, he leaned down and gave her another quick kiss. “Yes, we did that.”
She smiled at him as she placed her free hand over his on her stomach. The moment of happy bliss ended as her fears of what their other three children would think. If they would feel as if they were being replaced. As if they were no longer wanted. The thoughts filled her mind and her smile fell.
“What is it?” his voice was thick with concern.
“Our kids… what if they feel as if we are replacing them?”
“Then we will just have to make sure that they know that we are not replacing them. We’re just adding to our family.”
“I don’t want to tell my parents yet. They will mean well, but I don’t need them staying here until we move. And yes, they would practically move in for the next month.”
“We’ll tell who you want, when you want,” he assured her with a grin. “We’re having a baby.”
Grinning, she gave a small laugh and nodded. “We’re having a baby.”
A few hours later, as their house filled back up with family and friends, Darkness continued to smile, and nothing seemed to bother him. Chris wrapped his sister up in a hug and they had a soft-spoken conversation. Sid gave her two youngest kids a look, letting them know that she was aware they were keeping secrets from her.
When they left the following day, Sid still had not pried it out of either. Trigg told her that they would share when they were ready. Chris just grinned at their mother and reminded his sister that running interference went both ways.
After the house was empty and the three kids sat with their adoptive parents at the table with a feast of pizzas laid out before them, Darkness cleared his throat.
“So, ummm,” Darkness slid his hand into Camille’s and smiled at her before looking back at the three kids. “We want you to know that we love you guys, and there is nothing that is going to change that.”
Camille nervously smiled at them, “We’re going to have a baby.”
Mitch broke the silence and tension with a simple question. “I’m going to be a big brother?”
