Chapter 112
Phoenix
"What do you want, Alpha?" Luther's assistant spits, her eyes burning with defiance. I think it's safe to say she doesn't like being cornered like this, but it had to be done.
I lean in, unfazed by her attitude. "What's your name?"
"Narissa."
"Nice to meet you, Narissa," I say with the friendliest smile I can muster. "I apologize for running into you like this, but I need to speak with your boss."
She takes a quick glance around the small building, probably looking for witnesses or a way to escape. It's just the two of us and a couple of employees behind the counter. Her eyes flash with fear, but she juts her chin out, keeping that defiant look. "I'm not telling you anything about him or our organization. I don't care how much you torture me. I'll die before I ever betray the Devils."
I tilt my head, letting the smirk deepen. "Who said anything about torturing you? I think we can do this the easy way, don't you agree?"
Narissa crosses her arms, her body tensing with unease. "He'd never agree to a meeting with you anyway. You're wasting your time."
I expected that answer. That's why I already thought of several plans before coming in here. "Wouldn't be the first time someone said no to me." I take a step closer, keeping my voice low and casual. "But the thing is, I'm not asking. You're coming with me, and I'll handle the rest."
It looks like I'm kidnapping her, and Luke's coffee.
He's probably going to be a grumpy motherfucker once this is all over, but oh well.
She backs up a step, her expression hardening. "There are humans here. You wouldn't dare cause a scene."
I chuckle. "Wanna bet? I don't want to have to throw you over my shoulder and haul you out of here like a sack of potatoes, but I will if you force my hand."
Looking around once more to realize that no one's going to step in and save her, she huffs and storms towards the door. I follow closely behind her. "You're going to regret this. The Devils are going to tear you apart," she hisses under her breath.
I shove my hands into the pockets of my hoodie, keeping pace with her. "I doubt that. Plus, if I intended to harm you, or anyone else, I would've done it by now." She slows her steps, so I can give her directions as we walk side by side. To the humans around us, this looks normal. Or at least I hope it does. "Now, keep walking. Black car in the back. Get in."
She rolls her eyes, but obeys, muttering, "You sound so sure of yourself, Alpha."
I can't help but laugh. "I am. I managed to get a hold of you, didn't I?"
"You're getting on my nerves already."
"Good. The faster we get a hold of Luther and tell him to meet us, the faster you can go back to your cushy little life in the Devils' clubhouse."
I already put on the child locks in case I had to go this extreme, so once she slides into the back seat, I slam the door shut.
Luke glances over his shoulder at Narissa and then back at me, shaking his head. "I thought you were just going to talk to her."
I snort. "Like it would've been that easy. This was plan B."
He nods toward the BMW still parked in the front of the building. "What are you going to do about the car?"
Shit. He's right. That could look suspicious that a BMW was just left here in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot. And I wouldn't want her shit getting stolen either. "Be a good girl and give me the key fob, Narissa," I tell her.
"Fuck you. You're not driving my car," she fires back.
I chuckle. "Yeah, I wasn't asking."
"You and my little wolf would get along just fine. You should really meet her."
Maybe she will. But will it be safe to meet Luther within my territory? At least he'll know that he has no control there.
"You're not going anywhere. Might as well hand them over, or I'll have to pry them out of your hands," I threaten, my patience thinning.
Sighing, she tosses the keyfob in my lap. "Here. Don't fuck up my car, or I'll kill you myself," she growls.
"Sure." I turn to my uncle. "Luke, follow me to the packhouse."
He gives me a stern look. "Are you sure about this? I feel like this falls under the umbrella of 'something stupid'".
Not exactly. But my goal really isn't to hurt Narissa at all. Just to draw out the leaders of the Devils out so we can talk. So we can find out what they know about the Council, and if they're also being blackmailed.
It's just that fucking important that we get this information.
I nod, keeping my voice leveled. "Let's just see what happens."
I stride across the parking lot, unlocking the car and slip into the driver's seat, starting the engine. Luke falls in behind me as I pull out of the parking lot. Just then, a call pops up on the screen.
Luther.
I guess she left her phone in here. That's perfect. I don't even need her to get in contact with him now. I'll do the talking, and she'll be the damsel in distress that, hopefully, he's willing to get back.
I answer it with a smirk. "Narissa, where the fuck is my coffee?" Luther barks, his voice rumbling through the entire car.
"She's a little tied up at the moment. Your coffee order's gonna be late."
He pauses for a beat before snarling, "Who the fuck is this?"
I consider what I should say. Should I tell him my name? Does it really matter?
I don't know. This is new to me, I've never considered kidnapping someone before.
I lean back in the seat, letting my voice drop. "Alpha Phoenix. Meet me at my packhouse in an hour. Be late, and Narissa pays the price."
Then I hang up.
Hopefully, this works—and doesn't end with all of us dead.
