Chapter 116
Phoenix
What's going on with my little wolf? She's been acting a little strange since she got back with Loki and Makayla, and now she's gone upstairs to take a nap in the middle of the day. Did I do something wrong, besides kidnapping Narissa? But she already knew that was a possibility, we talked about it beforehand.
I glance at Makayla, raising an eyebrow, silently demanding answers. But she just shrugs.
My eyes narrow, zeroing in on the way she won't directly meet my gaze. Yeah, she's lying her ass off. But before I can say anything else, there's a harsh knock at the door.
"Looks like our guests are here," I mutter, smirking at Narissa. She just glares at me, moving closer to Luke like he can protect her.
Uh, did she forget we both abducted her?
Some weird shit is going on between them. Maybe I shouldn't have left them alone together, even for a minute. I've noticed the heat in his eyes when he looks at her, and vice versa.
That's not good.
I take my time going to the door, unbothered as the knocks get louder and more demanding. Good. I'm enjoying making them stew, question whether the member of their organization is okay or not.
I finally swing the door open to find Luther flanked by three other werewolves, all glaring like they'd rather tear the packhouse down than step inside it. They're all huge, with bulging muscles and deep scowls. I'm guessing Luther found the biggest guys he could in case something went down.
My smirk widens. "Luther. Welcome to our home," I drawl, widening the door as he and his entourage reluctantly file in.
Luther's eyes barely leave me, simmering with hostility, but he pushes past me, zeroing in on Narissa still sitting down with Luke. He scans her from head to toe, checking for any signs of harm. They lock gazes, their eyes glazing over as they communicate telepathically.
I can't resist pissing them off. "That's kinda rude, don't you think? If Narissa has a complaint about her stay here, we should all get to hear about it."
Luther's men all growl at me, but I remain unbothered. I'm an Alpha, any attack will result in a war between us. And trust me, they don't want that. They know better than to start something they can't finish.
Luther turns back to face me, his face a mask of contained fury. "Now that you've got our attention, what the fuck do you want?" he growls.
I meet his gaze evenly. "This conversation needs to be more private."
He lets out a short, bitter laugh. "Fuck no. Do you think we're that stupid?"
"It's about the Council."
His expression hardens, eyes narrowing as he studies me. Then, he glances at his men, giving them a silent command, before turning back to me. "Fine, then. But if you so much as try to attack us, we will retaliate."
I smirk. "You know, I just became Alpha. You don't have to distrust me so much already. I'm not my father."
"We don't trust any packs," he sneers, his voice dripping with disdain. "Yours will be no different."
Yeah, I beg to fucking differ.
"Let's go to my office." I gesture with my head to Luke and Loki., signaling them to follow.
"I don't trust my mate being around them alone," Loki growls in my head.
I wouldn't either.
"I know. Send her upstairs with Selene. I'll station two guards outside the door," I tell him, already moving towards the office door. My mind races with strategies, ways to get the Devils' on our side.
Once inside, the tension is palpable. We're on one side of the desk, while Luther stands on the other side, his arms folded tightly across his chest and a scowl on his face. He wastes no time, jumping right into the confrontation. "What do you want to know about the fucking Council?" he practically snarls.
I roll my eyes. "First off, this hostility is unnecessary. We're not your enemies, they are. And we wanted to know if they're fucking with you guys."
"Of course they're fucking with us. They're fucking with everyone. We just do what they ask so they will leave us the hell alone." His tone is mixed with frustration.
Luke hums thoughtfully. "And what do they ask for?"
"Can't tell you that," Luther snaps back.
I tilt my head, scrutinizing him. "Why? Are you afraid of them?"
Irritation flashes in his eyes, his nostrils flaring. "No I'm not. But they've threatened the lives of everyone in our MC. There's no way we're risking that for you."
"Fair enough," Luke replies evenly. "But is there anything at all you could tell us?"
"Yeah. That if you want to stay alive, stay the fuck out of it. They'll make your deaths look like accidents."
I shove my hands into the pockets of my jacket, leaning against the desk. "Yeah, afraid we can't do that. My father is being framed for some shit he didn't do, which automatically means I can get framed for some shit I didn't do."
Recognition seems to dawn on him, his posture stiffening slightly. "And what do you wanna do about it? Have a little sharing circle in here?" he says mockingly.
My lips twitch with a hint of amusement. "If that includes taking them down, then sure. Whatever we need to do."
He stares at me for a long moment before bursting out laughing like I just told a joke. "You really think that's possible? They're older than any of us, even your father. They'll just wipe us all out."
"Not if we come up with a plan to outsmart them," I challenge, my eyes locking with his.
He still doesn't look convinced, but I didn't expect him to. "Well, come find me when you think of one."
I raise a brow. "So, you're not going to help us?"
"Nah, but if you come up with a plan that doesn't get us all killed, we'll think about joining in."
I reach out and shake his hand. "Deal. I think you should write down your number or something, so I don't have to kidnap sweet Narissa again," I smirk, watching his reaction.
He shoots me one last glare, scribbling his number on a piece of paper on the desk, before walking out of my office. The three of us follow after him to make sure he leaves.
Narissa walks over to Luke, her cheeks turning red as she fidgets with her hands. "Hey, um, thanks for everything. Maybe one day we'll see each other again."
He nods, a small smile playing on his lips. "I hope so."
As soon as they leave, I turn to him. "You like her, huh?"
He stares after her. "There's definitely something there, but I can't focus on that right now. We need to continue finding allies and figuring out a way to take down the Council."
Loki and I nod in agreement, the weight of our mission weighing heavily on our shoulders.
