Chapter Twenty-seven Evan Sterling’s POV (Present Time)

Going back to Charlestown seemed longer or perhaps I was too eager to find out what Edward did to Estera that had made her leave me twice now. I accepted it the first time, but never again, especially now that I know he lied to me. I am going to find her if it's the last thing I do. I promised myself.
When my driver picked me up from the airport, I asked him to sit in the passenger seat and took over the wheel. Sitting still was killing me. I needed to do something or I was going to go mad. I was a bit disappointed he brought a Jeep, one of my sports cars would have been best suited for my mood. I wanted to race like bats out of hell to the Sterlings' estate, but I couldn’t maneuver the Jeep that way or we might never get to our destination. I wouldn’t be of any help to Estera dead. The thought sobered me a little, and I maintained a 150-speed limit.
I let out a sigh when I parked in front of the mansion and didn’t bother glancing at my driver but I could hear his relieved sigh. I pushed the door open and stepped out, taking long strides inside the house.
“Where is he?” I bellowed in the empty foyer, a uniform maid appeared from a door to the left and a smile brightened her features before it disappeared when I asked again, “Where is my father?”
“In his room, sir,” she replied.
Without pausing I raced up the stairs and walked briskly down the two wide corridors leading to the master’s bedroom. Not bothering to knock, I pushed the door open and heard a gasp.
A half-naked young woman straddled Edward on the bed and with her half discarded attire it was obvious she was one of the maids. A decade ago I would have been stunned. But nothing surprises me anymore where Edward was concerned.
“Get out!” I yelled. The lady scurried out of the bed leaving Edward exposed to my scrutiny he still had a hard-on, the bloody bastard. ‘Fucking another woman on his matrimonial bed. Typical!’ I thought. She quickly picked up her discarded underwear and rushed out of the room. I slammed the door behind her and locked it. Edward looked alarmed but quickly schooled his features.
“What is the meaning of this madness, Evan?!” Edward blurted in false indignation. I knew he must be scared shitless of me finding him in that position, knowing I could take away all his fucking privileges. I felt smug with the knowledge that I have the upper hand this time. Without giving him room to make himself decent, I brought out my phone, opened the bank email alert, and placed the phone in his line of view.
He darted a concerned gaze at me then reached for his glasses on the bed stand and quickly wore them. I waited patiently, studying his face, waiting for him to betray himself and I wasn’t disappointed when he suddenly blanched and threw me an uncomfortable glance. I stepped back then, walking away to get one of his single-seater chairs to put beside his bed, and straddled it, giving him my undivided attention.
He squirmed on the bed, pulling the cover sheet to his chest
“You are a married man, Evan, leave the past alone and move on with your life.”
“So, you know who sent the money?”
“Yes, and I am certain you already have the answer to that,” he replied,
“Why?”
“Mary Antoinette is a very attractive young woman —”
“Why?!” I yelled, jerking up from the chair and making it fall back to the marble floor.
“Calm down, damn it! That whore needed to get the hell out of our lives!”
“You. Dare!” I leaned forward and grabbed him by the throat. The shock on his face was comical. “Why the fuck did Estera send this kind of money to the company’s account? Why the hell is she calling herself a wingless bird?! What the fuck did you do to her, Edward?!”
“I am your father, you will show me respect!” Edward managed to say. The whirlwind of emotions in his eyes didn’t move me one bit. He must have realized he had fucking pushed me beyond my limit. I drew back from him, observing him coolly.
“You are nothing, Edward Sterling, you are what I say you are,” I replied with calm coolness that made him pale. Hatred for him burned in my soul. This man ruined our family and went ahead to extend his poisonous tentacles to my future and he took it from me.
“I’m going to ask you one last time. And if you know what is good for you, you will tell me what I want to know. Now … Edward, what the hell did you do to her?!” I said through gritted teeth.
