Chapter 42

Amanda's POV.

After having a peaceful breakfast and enjoying each other’s company, we prepared to head to the police station. Ron was impeccably dressed in a black suit, making him even more irresistible than usual, and I felt the need to live up to his standards, so I wore a sky-blue backless jumpsuit. I had never seen Ron in a suit before since he didn’t feel comfortable in one, but I was glad he was taking his role as CEO seriously. On the way to the police station, his hand rested on my thigh, drawing imaginary circles on my exposed skin. Those simple gestures reminded me of last night, and I felt myself heating up again.

It seemed that was his intention because when I closed my legs to alleviate the sensation, he smiled. He parked the car in the police station’s lot, and we got out.

“You have the chance to tell the police about Ghost now,” my conscience said, and I sighed loudly, drawing Ron’s attention.

“Everything will be fine. I’ll be with you until the end,” he said, taking my hand.

I gave him a reassuring smile, indicating that I felt okay, then he went to find a police officer to let them know we were there to identify the criminals. Ron returned to me with an officer, and we entered a room with a large window.

“Can they see us?” I asked the officer, my voice trembling.

I hadn’t realized it would be so difficult to see the faces of my kidnappers again.

“No, honey. Only we can see them,” the officer replied, sounding somewhat bored.

I watched each man through the window and was overcome with a cold shiver running down my back.

“Numbers two, four, and five,” I said, wanting to finish as quickly as possible to erase their faces from my memory.

“Could you tell me exactly what each of them did?”

“Number two took me by taxi. Number four tried to rape me. Number five drugged me.”

The officer took notes, then turned his attention back to me.

“According to Stallion, there should be one more person. The one who was threatening him on the phone. Did you see him among the ones we’ve shown you?”

Now is the time to tell him about Ghost...

“No, I didn’t see him.”

“Well, the search is still ongoing. If we arrest anyone else, we’ll let you know,” the officer said, almost eager to be done with us.

If I decide to tell him about Ghost and his visit to Ron’s house, he might not take it seriously given how rushed he seems. I’ll tell another officer another day when Ron isn’t around. Besides, I could feel Ron’s anger towards the police station after hearing me say I was almost raped. I said goodbye to the officer and then grabbed Ron by the arm, pulling him outside before he did something he might regret later.

“Why didn’t you tell me about this?” he asked, pulling his arm out of my grasp.

“What would have changed if I had told you?” I asked, a bit more sharply.

“I don’t know... Maybe I would have done something.”

“Exactly... I didn’t want to burden you with such things.”

I saw him relax a bit, his expression softening.

“You never burden me, darling. I just want to help you. No matter how harsh the secrets you keep... I want you to share them with me. You’ll never be alone,” he said, pulling me into his chest.

Come on, Amanda... Tell him about Ghost.

I took a deep breath and withdrew from the embrace, Ron’s worried expression clear on his face.

“I need to tell you something…”

“Okay. Don’t rush. I’m listening.”

“Ghost came to see me yesterday after you went back to work.”

All of Ron’s muscles tensed, and I was afraid he might explode soon.

“Why didn’t you turn him in to the police immediately?”

“Because by the time I got to the phone, he would have caught me. Besides, he didn’t pose a threat to me.”

“We’re talking about the same Ghost who tormented you for a week, right? Because I find it hard to believe he came just to make peace with you and apologize,” he said sarcastically, and I sighed, getting into the car.

I wasn’t going to argue with him in front of the police station. Ron also got into the car, slamming the door a bit harder than necessary, and turned to me.

“Did he do anything to you? Did he threaten you?” he asked, this time more cautiously.

“No, Ron. The conversation between us was as normal as could be.”

“Impossible. He wanted something. What did he want from you?”

I took a deep breath, gathering the courage to tell him. I just hoped he wouldn’t do anything reckless.

“He proposed a deal. He’ll deliver Denver to the police if you help him with something.”

“What?”

“I don’t know because I have no intention of making a deal with him. Who knows what he’s really after?! He’s not trustworthy.”

“Then why didn’t you tell the police?”

“Because karma is already dealing with him. He’s no longer a threat to us.”

Ron thought for a few moments, then started the engine, and we finally left the police station parking lot.

“I don’t like that you didn’t tell me about Ghost immediately, but I don’t want us to fight over that scumbag. However, I have one request. If when we were just friends we managed to tell each other everything, we should be able to do it now that we’re a couple. I know you want to protect me, but I should be the one protecting you. Don’t keep vital information from me anymore, okay?”

I nodded simply, feeling embarrassed that I had hidden this from him, and he just smiled at me.I thought that maybe if he didn't know absolutely everything about my life, everything would be fine. But we don't work like that.
Frienship or More...?
