Chapter 22

The day Daniel was discharged from the hospital.
I took a day off from work.
He stood alone in front of Room 608, empty-handed.
Silently looking into the room, his eyes remained calm.
That familiar
After lying on the bed for three and a half years, the flowerpot that had buried notes, and the oxygen machine that I had pressed down... I never want to see them again.
I drove him back to his home.
As soon as the door opened, a thick layer of dust came flying towards us. It made my heart ache.
In that car accident, there was a family of three. Mr. Ford, sitting in the passenger seat, threw himself onto the driver's seat to protect his son. A piece of steel pierced through his body and he died on the spot. Mrs. Ford, sitting in the backseat, also passed away due to severe injuries and unsuccessful rescue attempts. The only survivor, Daniel, became a vegetable, and now he has woken up. But he has also become a lone soul. He calmly picked up a broom and started cleaning, but if you look closely, his shoulders were trembling slightly. I also started helping him tidy up.
When I saw the bright smiles of the family of three in the picture frame on the wall, I closed my eyes to suppress my emotions.
In a trembling voice, I said, "Daniel."
"Yeah?"
"Would you like to... form a family with me?"
The man's hand, wiping the cup, trembled.
The exquisite crystal cup slipped and shattered into pieces on the ground.
He raised his head and looked at me expressionlessly, "I'm pretending I didn't hear that."
I felt so awkward.
I didn't know where to put my hands and feet.
Just as I was thinking about whether I should leave quickly...
He continued, "I think I should be the one saying that."
"Isabel, you took care of me for three and a half years. Will you let me take care of you for the next few decades?"
Those words felt heavy.
They made my head spin.
I nodded absentmindedly, "Okay."
Daniel smiled brightly.
The sunlight shone on his face through the window, bringing warm and comforting temperatures, dispelling the gloomy haze.
He stepped over the shattered glass on the floor, opened his arms, and embraced me.
In that moment, our hearts were beating intensely for each other.
In that moment, it felt eternal.
End of the story.
Epilogue
Daniel's perspective:
"You only have ten minutes."
I politely nodded to the prison guard and shifted my gaze to the man behind the glass window.
He stared at me intently, his eyes filled with terrifying hatred.
"It's been a long time, Mr. Wilson. How have you been?"
"Daniel, I regret not killing you and Isabel back then."
I smiled, neither confirming nor denying his statement, simply agreeing with his viewpoint.
"Yes, Mr. Wilson, you weren't ruthless enough. If you had killed me or Isabel back then, none of this would have happened."
He stood up, slamming the table in frustration.
"I didn't treat you badly before, and this is how you repay me!"
Meanwhile, my expression remained calm, but if you looked closely, you could see the immense hatred in the depths of my eyes.
"Mr. Wilson, I am a lawyer, and regardless of our past employer-employee relationship, a crime is a crime."
"Furthermore, you killed my parents."
He laughed hysterically, his expression twisted and deranged.
"You deserved it."
"Do you really think you and Isabel, those two wolves in sheep's clothing, will have a good ending? I'll be waiting for you in hell."
With that, he stood up and left.
My gaze crossed over.
His spine remained straight and rigid, proudly upholding his self-esteem.
I also stood up and walked out.
Stepping through the prison gates.
A girl in a long skirt stood under the shade of a tree.
Her long hair was gently blown by the breeze, revealing a beautiful face.
When she saw me coming out, she smiled, her two dimples were extremely adorable.
"Shall we go eat at the newly opened Sichuan restaurant?"
I held her hand, intertwining our fingers.
"Sure."
The summer streets were dotted with shades from trees.
With smiles on our faces, Isabel and I walked towards the distance, under the scorching sun.
"Daniel, is there something else you wanted to say today?"
I chuckled and reached out to wipe the sweat off the tip of her nose.
"I love you."
