Chapter 19
"Where is the most goddess staying, I would love to greet her. It'd be such a great honor to set my eyes on her?" I smiled at his request.
"It's not possible, the only ones permitted to see her are celestial spirits and servants like us. I'm one of her maids. No human shifter is permitted to set eyes on her, she's a goddess. Am sure you might not survive if you have your eyes on her."
"Really?"
"Yes!"
"But she's watching us from where she is?" He asked curiously.
"Sure, but you don't have to worry. She's very kind, gentle and generous towards us." I knew his fear, but I just felt like putting it that way. I didn't want to let my feelings out so soon. It'd make me feel cheap and he would crave for less of me.
"You must have been seeing her?"
I nodded, "I work directly for her. It's when she assigned me to you, I left her chambers to come take care of you."
"That's so kind of you, I'm really grateful and glad to have you by my side. Just happy you were the one sent and none other." I was blushing at his sweet words. "The other maid was sweet in approach but you're sweeter? Can I take you when I return back to the world?" My heart skipped, did he realize what brought him here aside from what I told him. I had blocked his memory so he forgot everything, I want his mind to be steady to give him a better atmosphere to recover, an atmosphere which is void of worries, anxieties and stress.
I widened my eyes in confusion, he greeted my reaction with a warm smile. I could see that he really wanted me. "But I'm a spirit, how's that possible?"
"You can ask the moon goddess for permission to incarnate as human?" It sounded like a question. "You said she's kind hearted, she might grant you this request."
"What makes you think I'll agree to follow you to the world leaving my celestial habitat and my mother, the goddess. I really like this place!" I shrugged.
Disappointment lit across his face, "I thought you really liked me?" He said with a light frown.
"But I haven't said that before, well I like you as the one her celestial majesty appointed to care of." I added a warm smile, this was a great excuse to why I liked him without sounding naive or desperate.
"I remember something now, what really brought me here?" Had he forgotten I won't tell him this? He has asked before and I told him, just to be saved. Now, he's asking again. Whatever, I wouldn't let out my little secret no matter the pressure.
"Well I answered that hours ago, you ask it again?"
"I'm just curious to know."
"The moon goddess hasn't instructed me to tell you, we work based on instructions here." My voice was gentle, tone polite and sweet. I didn't want to make him bad or think about something else, like I was hiding something from him. I think when I mention the moon goddess, he'd not ask again.
He exhaled heavily and made some gestures with his eyes and hands, "Well, I take it that way." This' what I'd expected.
"Glad you understand me now, not like I'm hiding anything from you," I lied. "Soon it would be lunch time." I informed him.
Douglas wasn't really glad hearing this, he felt that we'd soon part.
"Don't worry, it's an hour away. We'll always be together for the time you spend here."
"How long?" He snapped.
"Don't really know, only the moon goddess knows."
"Ooh! I think we'll always be together throughout my stay here?"
"Yeah, except I'm sent for astral duties."
"Really, I thought your only duty is to see to my wellbeing?"
"Yes, but sometimes though rarely, I go away on missions from the moon goddess. My co-maid is there to take care of you till I return."
This didn't sound so well in Douglas' ears, I saw the way he looked at me. I smiled to calm him down, he needed not be anxious. My mission towards Devon was mainly because of him. I have to return in the evening to make some deceiving reports to her, there's no morning, afternoon or evening here, just judging on the time standard in the world. From the bright and sunny nature in the real world, it's afternoon now. We used this standard also here.
We continued in our loving chats till the time for lunch where I led him to our grand dining hall to eat. We served different courses, throughout the meal Douglas enjoyed his meal. He ate with so much eagerness, it tasted really great than any food cooked in the shifter world. I loved to see him enjoy our meals. He raised his head once to see I was staring at him eating, he blushed shyly, lowered his head again and continued but not with such eagerness as before. Now he knew someone was watching him and it was a pretty girl. He must be really shy.
"Come let me show you something," I said to him after we were done with our meal. He was so curious about what I intended to show him. I made him walk on the wings of the wind like me, at first he was afraid of trodding through the mid-air. "Wow, your powers permits this?"
I just nodded with a sweet smile. "I'm naturally a celestial spirit but with the ability to pick up a physical body you can see and touch."
I was amazed by him. I took his hand and journeyed further with him. "Look beyond, at the horizon." He raised his eyes, and a sudden shock came upon him. The air was getting darker with every step we took, "These are the areas you shouldn't dare come to yourself." I said this because I know soon I'd not be with him. It might take a long time, whichever I don't know yet.
A turbulent wind encircled round the moon when we reached the poles. Douglas felt more fear, I held him tight. "Don't fear, I'm here with you." To him, he might reason I was just a normal maid, in case of an uncertainty I might not be able to do anything.
I took him around the astral areas where darkness was fast setting in. There were more than I expected. It was time for me to do something at least . I risk losing my kingdom, also I need to go see Devon, the dark queen tonight to get more information that will help me in my battle against her. The greatest pretense would make me achieve my aim in this case. Whatever it takes, I'm ready.
"Is there anything going on? Why are you showing me all these?" Douglas' face changed to that of a frightened child, I gave him an assuring look. "Our kingdom is under attack. I might be included among those sent to fight for it. I forgot to tell you, aside from being a maid, I'm a warrior here just like Betas in the shifter world."
"Would I let you go for this war? I'm sure I might not let you go." He said with determination.
"Ok, let's see!" I challenged him with a smile.
