Chapter 24
"Eva, you must have known much about your former mistress, the wolf queen, Cassandra?" She nodded 'a yes.' "And what she came to the world to enforce?" Another 'yes' came. "Good! That's the same mission I'm here to enforce but we need to be more tactical and efficient to avoid ending the way she ended or even worse."
"There's great sense in what you say, Emily." Zoey snapped.
"My dream, which is my mission, is to partner with the prince so I can better work out my aim of driving Pandora out of the throne. Before I go into this, I need to start with the imprisonment issue. Douglas has been in prison custody for several years now without anything said or done about his case. I'll use this basically and other crimes committed by Pandora to portray her in the black light. Any suggestions?"
"Yes, I have my lady!" Eva said.
"Remember Emily," I joked. She smiled and nodded. "What's your suggestion Eva?"
"I guess we should compile a list of the most tedious crimes she has committed with Douglas on top of them all, we attach all necessary proof and statistics to it which we will present in the wolf council."
Eva took my mind to what I didn't think of in full light, "Grateful for that dearie. Do you suggest if I should keep this a secret from Douglas or not?" Zoey was about to say something when she looked elsewhere, it seemed something caught their attention. Eva followed suit. I waited for them to answer my question but when the answer didn't come as expected, I was forced to look out too. Douglas was standing by the door staring at us suspiciously like he was eager to hear what we had to say.
"Hello," I waved. Zoey winked at me, probably not to invite him but it was too late. He walked over to us, I didn't really mean him coming over but helloed him just to fill up the awkward gap of silence.
"Hey, what're you ladies talking about?" I couldn't help but admire him, he was dressed in a white T-shirt and black joggers, his shiny black hair stood clearly curly, his stature muscular. Everything about him including the way he walked depicted his princely status. This had been paused for a while before Cassandra delivered him from prison life and I was commissioned to continue the work.
"Don't let his charms charm you, remember what you're here for!" Is it possible to be with this type of a guy without developing sensations. The voice kept repeating inside me, it must be the voice of the moon goddess.
'When you're out on a mission, you need to focus!' Since I was battling with emotions, I decided to open the book I held just to set my eyes on it and get inspired. Sometimes you can be communicated with through things like a quote, picture or movie scene. This is a warning I have to take lest I might end my journey as Cassandra did, halfway.
I looked firmly into his eyes, "Sorry Douglas, this' a girls' meeting!" It was my way of asking him to leave without being rude.
"Yes, but my mind tells me I'm the center of discussion here. Point of notice, I'm not Douglas, I'm Prince Douglas or address me as Your Majesty." He snapped, interrupting me.
"Really?" I muttered in a joking manner, blushing. "Well, I'm not an equal nor a mere shifter, I'm a Celestial Lawyer and a missionary as well. I can only address you as Douglas, no other." My voice was calm but firm and I really meant what I said. "That's what I'm instructed to call you by."
"Then I wouldn't accept that and your goals, let's see how you'll achieve them without me."
"I'm not here for arguments."
"I need you to call me by my official title, I won't accept any other title aside from what I've told you." He warned.
"And I won't do that either!" I picked up my book and attempted to walk out but Zoey held me, "Calm down my lady, you don't need to mind him, right?"
"What are you trying to say?" Douglas threatened. I sat down, heaved a sigh of regret. It's one thing to wish to save someone and another for the person to agree to be saved. I was all alone in this fight except for my two ladies, Eva and Zoey. This' the essence of the book, I steadied my gaze on it, I was really alone in this fight. Douglas, who should provide great support by accepting me to work with him as a mate, is the already the first to counter me.
The same way the girl in the novel succeeded, I would also. I'm determined to do this whether Douglas stands by my side or not. We'd been staying in silence for a while, I was lost in thought until Eva broke the silence.
"Can we continue our meeting?"
"Yes, but not now, not with Douglas with us. Right?" I said in an authoritative tone.
"You're never call me that name?" He slammed. "You have no right to do that, you're just…." I gazed at him, irritated. What is he trying to say, I'm what?
"What are you trying to say?"
"Whatever," he rolled his eyes at me. "You're gonna treat me as a prince and nothing less." I looked over to Eva and she winked at me, she came quietly to me and whispered into my ears, "Do not mind him, it's another distraction. Learn to ignore him as much as possible, as long as he gets to be your contract mate, you're good to go!" She rushed over her words like she had somewhere to go.
I stand up, then gesture to Zoey to follow me, with Eva. They did and we walked out of the conference room leaving Douglas staring at us. "We need to go for a walk or some secluded park where we can have our discussion in peace, without anyone disturbing us."
"Yes, you're right. I'd prefer a park," Zoey suggested.
"Me too!" Eva added.
"Alright dears!" I confirmed their suggestions, that means we are going for a tour in the evening."
"This' a serious issue, in which many distractions would come out just to make you lose focus, please don't heed to them, even the one from Douglas." Eva advised as we walked. I find her really thoughtful and wise, she brings forth inspiring statements.
