Chapter 23
Emily POV
I decided to leave Douglas alone after several instances of trying to make him accept my request of a contract marriage. I really wonder how I'd get to achieve my mission if I don't have any meaningful relationship with him. The law wouldn't permit me to do certain things that concern him if I'm neither his relative nor legal spouse. I'll continue my persuasion later.
I go down to meet my two ladies-in-waiting, Eva and Zoey. I really need to go and see the luna queen today or tomorrow ahead of the court case in two days time. I have to talk with her and secure a legal release for Douglas, otherwise it would be assumed that he was stolen away, if this happens, he might be re-arrested and convicted.
"Hello Zoey, where's Eva?"
"She's down." Zoey pointed down, I walked past her by the staircase to go meet Eva. I changed my mind.
"Go call her for me. Tell her to meet me in the Conference Room." It's a room I created in my residence for issues like this when I came two days ago.
It's usual to have celestial missionaries sent by the moon goddess to effect one purpose or the other in the wolf world and these messengers are marked by a silvery line at the side of their neck where mating takes place. In the human world, such individuals might be termed as involving in a mysterious appearance, it's what you would think of if you've never known someone before and suddenly they come into your life without prior details about their background and past life. People will certainly think it's a ghost or some alien but in the wolf world, such things are totally different.
The shifters know that once in a while, such beings incarnate as humans to enforce the celestial will of the moon goddess in the world. There are special houses built for them, good apartments with everything a wealthy person might need. When you come to the world, your mark of identification is the silvery line on your neck, without this you're a liar and impostor which is a serious offense punishable by the constitution of the shifter world.
Cassandra was not a celestial missionary like me, she was the real moon goddess incarnated as a human. Since she ceases to exist, it's obligatory that I take up her Personal Assistant as mine in the saving work. She was part of her mission, I have no option but to continue with her.
"I really need to meet with her also, as the Personal Assistant of the missing wolf queen." I have to address Cassandra as missing because she was last seen with Eva at the hospital while they waited to hear from the doctor. No one ever saw her after that. What if I report her of being dead or something, I would be seen as being aware of how everything happened, including the non-existing moon goddess. No! That's not a secret to be revealed, let Douglas be the only one to know this. I trust him, he wouldn't let my secret spill.
"Okay, she'll be in the room in a few seconds," Zoey curtsied and left. I walked to the adjoining room which led to the large conference room. It has a capacity of accommodating three hundred persons at a time, there's a podium and the audience part, a small confined section at the side for meetings with a lesser number probably three to eight persons. This' where the meeting would be held.
The small library at the wall is stocked with a few interesting books to use and pass some time. I pick up a book that attracts my attention, from a glimpse of it, I detect that it's a romance fantasy. The gold and red combination of the cover with the stylish golden fonts captivates me, the front has a young girl holding on her palms what looks like a magical spindle, with a glowing light around it. The title goes, "When you're alone." A subscript writes, "A supermodel story of the girl who single handedly achieves the most difficult goals."
This description really captivates my heart, it's gonna be similar to what I have in mind to enforce in the world. Even though we do not really share exactly the same story, I think this book would greatly help me. I'll need to read this after the meeting, it's gonna be my favorite book and personal companion. Being my property, I need not ask for anyone's permission to borrow it. I wonder why I didn't care to walk into this library the very first day I came in here to bump into this book. I think by now I'd be done. Well, there's a good attached to every bad, I believe this and I'll always do this. Perhaps it won't be of any great significance if I had read it before Douglas refused to work with me as a contracted mate. The story might seem irrelevant at that point.
Eva entered the room with Zoey, they curtsied. "Don't you think too much courtesies is inappropriate when in private with me? I don't need that."
"Okay Ma!" They chorused.
"Call me Emily, I'm your friend. Come on, we need to treat each other as friends working together if we have to achieve this mission." They nodded in unison, I then gestured to the seats before me. They moved it closer and sat on them.
"I want to have a personal and secret discussion with you about the mission the moon goddess sent me to enforce in our world. Can I trust you both, that you won't leak the information I'll discuss with you?"
"Yes, Emily!" They replied at once, I smiled in satisfaction.
"That's good, I trust you guys that's why I chose you both." I exhale heavily. "There's a mission the moon goddess has sent me to enforce, I could just summarize it in one statement but no, I won't do that. It's a complicated mission and I solicit your aid. I hope you promise to abide by me at all times in the course of this?"
"Yes, we promise that."
"Fine, I'll let you know everything. This' the real reason I asked to see you both. After this meeting, our mission begins today!" My tone got authoritative and domineering towards the end. I want to create the impression of seriousness. My ladies-in-waiting need to be serious and see this mission as life itself, lest we fail.
The last thing on my mind is having an uncompleted mission like Cassandra who came before me.
