Chapter 28

"Don't be scared of my reaction, say what you want to say." These statement made me bold to confront my fears and speak up. I stared deeper into Douglas' eyes for confirmation, his deep blue eyes which are thick with interest at this point. I wonder what came over him in the day and what has come over him tonight to make him change his mind and treat me so kind.

"You know I have a mission to fulfill in the world, first I need to get you out of prison absolutely and second I wish to re-organise everything that has gone wrong in our world. Being the luna queen would give me the best opportunity to effect the wish of the moon goddess." I threw a quick glance at his face to watch his reaction.

"The luna queen to me is not something to be chosen but centered on a fated mate but we are not fated mates, how's that gonna work?" He asked calmly. I tried figuring out the best answer to give him at the moment, an answer which would wipe off his doubt and make him accept my request.

"I am talking about a contract marriage where you will choose me as your luna and I will remain with you as long as it takes to enforce the moon goddess' will. You can steady with your real mate after.

"How long will that take?" He asked with curious eyes.

"That I don't know." I feel awkward that Douglas might refuse me again at this point or warn me never to talk about this with him again. Whatever he says, I'll never stop asking until I get what I want. There's a great power in not giving up. No matter how long it takes to achieve this, I'll gladly wait while working on the tasks assigned to me.

"How do you think that will work?" Douglas had a confused look like he wouldn't want to refuse me this but just had to do it, or didn't know what to do.

"What do you want," I humbly asked. I didn't just have to detect my will for him like that, it would be better if I knew what he wished and dreamt for his life so it wouldn't seem like I was trying to force my will on his life. Whatever his dream was, we need to approach a harmonized agreement with no alteration in my mission. It's vital I do everything as I'm expected to do.

"I just wish to spend the rest of my life with my love, my fated mate. Nancy, is the girl I dreamt of going through life with but sadly she's no more!" Douglas paused and dropped a tear like all his life depended on this girl and he would never recover from the loss.

"Ooh, so sorry. What happened to her?" I asked with a concerned voice. To gain his attention I need to be interested in his affairs as well as sympathetic otherwise I would be interpreted as being selfish, though my goal is not to favor myself but the entire werewolves.

"After I got into the prison, I never saw or heard from her again. The last time I laid my eyes on her was the day I was arrested and before I was taken to the prison, at the palace." He wept. I couldn't see him being so emotional without doing something, I shifted close to him but not so close so he had his space. I hung my right hand round his shoulders while my left hand wiped the tears off his eyes.

"Don't let yourself be disturbed. You'll meet her again."

"Where," he raised his head and gazed into my eyes widely with shock. He must have been puzzled at my strange statement, how will he meet someone that is dead already. In as much as he would love to meet the love of his life, yet this was impossible to him which made him stare at me with such wide eyes. I understood what I meant which he didn't but will realize when the time comes.

"That's a question for another day but you need to let that go lest you would not come across another mate." When you let tragedies from your past relationships crowd your mind, I don't think it's easy to see beyond the cloudy film. You can't see the silvery lining in the blue sky when your eyes are covered with the white film of emotions from bad memories. "So clear off that bad memory of yours so you can see that life has a brighter side," I said to him.

I consoled him further. The most painful loss is the loss of a lover. Most men testify to this especially when the lady was truly and deeply loved by them. Most of them find themselves living with the pain of the loss for long years if not for the rest of their life, others can't enjoy their marriage with their present mates whenever they think of the one they loved and lost to death.

It took like twenty minutes when it came to his senses. He knew he was a man and needed not cry all through. "You need to be strong emotionally," I encouraged him. He sniffed and muttered, "Thank you." Even at this, he was still down. Douglas held his head in a bowed posture.

"I need you to think and decide on this, what I request. Tomorrow I'm going to meet your stepmom about your imprisonment issue and help you legally to get freedom no matter what it takes." He lifted his head and I was amazed. Excitement lined on the corner of his eyes, his lips were parted into a slight blush. "But your decision would totally determine my success in this. If you'd be kind enough I'll be glad to get your reply before the time I'm going."

"What time are you leaving and are you going alone?" I can detect concern in his tone, the distance from here to the royal palace is many kilometers. He must be curious to know who I'll go with, if I'm traveling alone.

"I think I should leave before 9 AM tomorrow, my traveling alone or not depends on the decision you will make."

"I'll give you my verdict tomorrow. Let me think about what you've just said."

I laid down on the bed with him, his hand wrapped around me, pulling me towards himself. I could feel the uneasiness in his chest, my heart is beating faster than normal as well. I can't tell what will be the outcome of his thoughts tonight, only till tomorrow.

I stared at the ceiling till I subconsciously closed my eyes and sleep took over me.
