Chapter 29

The golden rays of the sun woke me up, and I sprang up immediately. It's late, I had desired to wake up at 5 AM and prepare. Before the sun showed up like this, it would be between 7 AM to 8 AM. I was as good as I thought, it's 8:05 AM. I gasped with my eyes wide open. I didn't realize that Douglas was watching me all this while.

"Good morning my lady," the sweet voice caught me from my drama. I turned my head, there he was lying on the bed with his dreamy blue eyes watching me like I was a cinema movie. I smiled with a little shyness over me.

"Good morning prince," for the first time I was inclined to address him as this. He blushed in great excitement.

"Do you care for a morning kiss?" He asked and I got more puzzled. Where is Douglas driving to, does he really mean all this nice attitude or he's just pretending to get what he wants? Despite the fact that I had the capability to distinguish when one is lying and when the truth is said, the emotions from this new character of his makes my mind confused that I can no longer determine which one I should believe.

"No," I'm forced to say after thinking about Cassandra and how sexual sensations can affect missionary work. "We can hug rather, that's preferred to me," I politely say with a smile. I just want to explain myself well so that Douglas wouldn't feel bad. "Know we're not destined together for a sexual relationship, that's why."

At this point, I remember what had caused me to be the drama girl a few seconds ago. I had totally forgotten about this prior to the sweet new character of Douglas, love is so powerful, that's one major reason I don't want to get entangled in it. I'm sure to lose focus if I let my mind get occupied by it.

"What of the request I made yesterday, have you made up your mind?" I get so curious, my anxiety right now is like a student that is waiting to have the result of a course he finds difficult and which is to be announced by the professor. The tension at this moment is so tense that I can't tell if my heart would burst open the next second.

"Don't worry yourself, I've accepted and I'm coming with you."

"What!" I exclaimed, jumping from where I stood to the bed and landing right on top of his body. He caught me in a warm embrace, we were giggling. I could feel his entire body pressed against mine but this' not a sexual moment for me. Don't know what he thinks. I have to maintain a complete platonic relationship with him and nothing deeper than that.

This doesn't mean I won't need his love when I'm married to him, I need his interest and heart for things to go smoothly but anything sexual, deeper than a hug, kiss or cuddle would dive into a road of distraction I might not wish to take.

"You know my heart is beginning to love you?" Douglas muttered, grinning with satisfaction. Being that I'm not sure of this bit, I have to verify what he's saying.

"Why did you treat me differently before?" I want to know because prior to the numerous deceptions of unsuspecting girls in contemporary times, I can't risk being deceived by any man. Who knows if he's just after my body and in a bit get it, pretends to love me.

"I wasn't familiar with you before, not until my mind told me I should be grateful for what you must have done for me, taking care of me in my unconscious state." Well, this seems a bit true but for how long, I need to fulfill this mission whatever. I can't wait till everything is perfect before I set out, I have to do that now, like right now! My job begins today.

"Do you totally agree to my wish of having you as a mate, but I won't be mated to you in the process of our contract marriage, hope that's okay?" I want to specify so he clearly gets the term of this contract.

"Will that work?" He asks in a desperate tone. I'm also forced to think about this and seek for areas that can be modified. Normally, a king needs a luna before being crowned and mating really needs to be part of it. It is the sacred bond that will join them together, having a luna without mating is unusual. It has never happened, I think something has to be done. Even in contract marriages among humans, where mating is not as sacred but just a means to get some benefits like a kid without marital strings, it still occurs to talk less of shifters where it is the major element of mates' union.

"You know, as a king you're entitled to only one luna, if I have a kid for you and my time is up and I go away, that will imply you having two lunas in your life. There'll be no child from the second woman, how will you enjoy the rest of your life with her without having a child from her, come on," I stressed. "You need to understand this, take a look at your father right now, he can't have a child from Pandora as he'd be clearly abdicated. That's what our law says, except if the first woman didn't have a child or can't have, then you can make your second luna take in to produce an heir." The essence of this law is to prevent squabbles and conflicts when it's time for a new king to arise. If the eldest Alpha of the first luna and that of the second exist, there'd certainly be issues and the mother of the second who is now in charge of the house might coax the king to hand over to her son rather than the son of the first luna, who probably died or was divorced.

Girls being involved are a rare case, but there is history of females ruling the wolf world in the past. They made excellent Alpha Queens. The frequency of males being the first born of the womb is higher than females among lycans, I think this' how the moon goddess decides it to be.

"This' really a difficult decision to make in totality, I mean not the contract marriage but the issue of mating to produce an heir." Douglas said coldly, pushing me away slowly to indulge in his own thoughts.

"Fine, we will make decisions about this later. Let's dwell on this visit for now and leave that for the future." I didn't want any setbacks this time around, as long as he has accepted to get into a contract marriage with me, I'm glad and good to go.
