Chapter 22
Douglas POV
Emily walked off to the drink dispenser at the far end of the massive room. She took out a glass from below and obtained a yellowish drink from the dispenser, which I guess to be an orange juice or pineapple juice. She walked majestically towards me and offered the drink to me. At first, I wanted to decline. I wasn't raised to take food and drinks from strangers.
"Take," she persisted. "You've been under my care for two days now, you think if I wanted to harm you, I wouldn't do that?"
"Well, thanks." I stretched my right hand and got the drink from her and gulped it down at once. It was an orange juice, sweet and refreshing to my body and mind. I exhaled heavily, now I had life. "Thank you," I said once again. Emily took the glass from me and went to the dispenser, she carefully placed the glass under the dispenser at the part for used glasses. I think that will be washed later.
She walked back to me and sat on the bed. "I have a great problem and I need your help in this."
"What's that?" I asked curiously. This lady keeps placing me under suspense, none of the questions I've asked has been absolutely answered by her.
"Hmm," she heaved.
"There's a mission I'm sent to enforce in the world, most especially concerning the werewolves. It's the same mission Cassandra, the wolf queen came to do but she couldn't, she ended her mission halfway."
"What happened to her, I can't really recall?" I remembered now how Cassandra came to visit me several times in the prison, after her the second lady I fell in love with was May. "How about May?" I really loved her and felt so bad not knowing about her whereabouts. Did I leave the moon kingdom without her? I wished she would follow me here. Now it looked like I was in the real world.
"Both of them are the same person!" I was shocked when she said this. "I'm the one sent by the moon goddess to continue from where she stopped. You should be really grateful to the moon goddess and her chief maid for the sacrifices they made for you."
"Hmmm, what happened to both of them? You told me the moon goddess died?"
"No, I didn't. It's your girl May." The chief maid of the moon goddess was captured and murdered while on a mission to the dark moon, Devon's kingdom. I wept inside me, she's the girl I'd never forget in this life, though she's a spirit, I would forever remember her.
"I remember how I complained to Lucinda about detesting her going for the mission but I was told she's strong." Tears streamed down my cheeks but I quickly wiped them off with the back of my palms. "What of Lucinda?" She's the girl that boosted of how strong May was, I believed she was but not a type of task she should undertake.
"She's now the moon goddess. After May was discovered dead, implying our wolf queen is dead, the moon goddess engaged in a fit with Devon, the dark queen but unfortunately as fate detected it, she was defeated. That's the first time evil has overcome good. Well, that's past! We need to focus on the present."
"I can't believe what you say, I doubt. You mean our beloved moon goddess is dead?"
"Yes, but it's a secret. Lucinda has now taken over her place. She can handle the position well until we have a new ruler."
"I have to keep this a secret?"
"Yes, you should. It doesn't have to reach the ears of anyone. I'm a direct descendant of the non-existing moon goddess, that's why I know this."
"Alright, I'll not be disloyal about this." We exchanged smiles. I now felt convenient before her.
"You didn't tell me how I got out of the prison and how I came here." I reminded her.
"See, it just goes this way. You were battered and seriously wounded while in prison under the command of your stepmom."
"Yes," I agreed to this.
"You got into a coma, no one was able to help you except Cassandra the wolf queen, let me tell you it's for your wellbeing and the werewolves she came to the world but she died in the hands of Devon. Her spirit no longer exists in the celestial realm and I've come to save the world, the werewolves and most especially you. You have to become what you were destined to be, the King."
"What will happen to her foundation and everything she owns?"
"That's not our concern for now, probably it will go to charity."
It's really hard to believe that the lady that wanted to save me is no more. It resembles a dream right now.
"What's it you wanted, earlier you had a great problem you needed my help with?"
"I know it's a bit difficult to do this but I don't feel you'd deny me this. Since you've no woman to call your own, Nancy is no more, likewise Cassandra, can you make me your wife?" Hearing this, my eyes widened in surprise, nothing is farther from my mind than marriage. I have a lot of mysteries I want to unravel, "I think marriage has to wait?"
Emily frowned when I said this, "But you want to be king?"
"Yes, and what does marriage with you have to do with that?" I don't want to get myself into more than I can handle.
"Remember you cannot be king without a luna, you're already of age and you need a queen by your side." Though she was exceedingly beautiful, I didn't find her as my mate, she wasn't my fated mate. I saw myself as spending the rest of my life with a fated mate and none other. If I give in to this strange request of hers, I'd be forgoing my dream of being with a fated mate.
"I need to really achieve this quest I came to do and I need you to be by my side. Fine, if you don't love me, it's not love I basically need now. It's just you claiming me as your luna, at least I would have a greater authority to carry out this task." After saying this, she stared straight into my eyes for a long time like she was gonna die if I didn't reply in the affirmative.
"Well, as much as I'd love to help you in this task, I can't be your mate. You're not my mate, you personally know that."
"But you know I took you out of your miserable state here and you don't appreciate it. I'm the celestial lawyer that is appointed to oversee your case. Next tomorrow, there would be a court case which would determine if you would continue to spend the rest of your life in prison or return totally back to your normal life and privileges." Emily was almost on the verge of tears.
This statement actually reawakened my fears, "I thought I was totally out of prison custody?"
"No, you aren't!" She snapped, looking away in annoyance for refusing her request.
