Chapter 20

Douglas POV

I'm told May is sent on a mission by the moon goddess, could this be the same mission she was talking of? Is this the war she was telling me about? How would the moon goddess send a female on a war mission, but they're lots of males here.

"When will she return?" I asked the maid that served me before her.

"Why should you worry, she's a powerful moon spirit, that's why the moon goddess sent her on this mission rather than any of us."

"When will she return?" I'm not quite sure I can survive here for a long time without her. Initially I felt so convenient before this maid but since May started attending to me I feel so bad having her not beside me. I lower my head in disappointment. I don't really know how I feel without the one I love.

"You seem to worry so much about her, do you like her?" The young lady in front of me blushed immediately as the words escaped her mouth. This was a tactics to make me quit asking further questions, though I love her I didn't think it was okay to reveal it to someone else, that's a pretty secret I can keep for myself and my love.

I lay on my bed pretending as though I didn't hear what she said but inside me I was blushing. She still stared at me, I couldn't maintain my indifference, "Why do you ask?" Lucinda, as she'd told me was her name, smiled at my calm and polite question.

"It's just the way you're so focused on my friend, I think something is cooking up between you both!" She rolled her eyes.

"I think not so!" I smiled covering my face in shyness. I've been trying hard to overcome this shyness, speaking before this angelic beauty is overwhelming but May is much more overwhelming than her.

"Come on, you do." She snapped, playfully punching my arms in a way to force me to speak up.

"I don't!"

"You do."

"I don't!"

"You do."

It continued this way until a guard came into the room, his face darkened like something had gone amidst. I was worried, had anything happened to May. Oh! Just prayed it's not some bad news, I'll give up my breath right now.

"Hello, can I have a brief discussion with you Lucinda. Just a few minutes," he took up his index finger as an excuse. Lucinda left me and went over to the door about ten meters away. They had their discussion in low tone, Lucinda backed me so I couldn't see the expression on her face. If I did see it, I'd know if something was wrong or not. I waited for her to finish the conversation and return to me, then I'll ask what's going on if the look of her face seemed worrisome. I can't afford having anything bad happen to May, she's my life and the only one that makes me forget about my worries.

Lucinda turns walking towards me, the guard hurriedly goes off. "Something is wrong! Something is wrong!" A voice kept ringing in my mind. "If I don't come back, don't worry about me." I wept inside me, this must be May or something actually referring to her.

"Something has gone wrong!" Lucinda repeated exactly the same thing that voice said to me. Tension ran riot in my body and spirit, every cell in me is at the verge of snapping. I don't know what to do right now. "The moon is under a serious attack from the alien forces, I'll be away on a combat mission. Most of us here will be away on this mission, you just need to stay within this vicinity, don't move out of the castle."

This' the last thing I wish to hear, my heart starts beating at the fastest rate I've ever recorded. "What of May, is she safe?" She's my major concern, I wouldn't want to sound selfish lest I'd say she's my only concern.

"Well, hmmm!" She exhaled heavily, then let out a sigh. "I need to go now!" She hastily walks off from me, I sprang off the bed and grip her by the wrist. "Come on, you can't leave me like that. I'm totally in a strange land, how would I survive here? Who would protect me if the attack is made on the castle?"

"We've moon angels to protect it, though they are invisible to you, they exist. All the guards would be away for some time, should I say about eighty percent. Just stay safe, everything will return to normal." She said struggling to be released from my grip, I held her tight. When I persisted, a mystical force swiped across my hand and we were separated. With the speed of the wind, she rushed off. It dawned on me I was relating with spirits and no normal beings.

I got back to my bed downcasted and wishing something could happen to save the moon from this horrible experience. I would very much be affected in that my May is a frontline warrior in this case. I observed that the darkness was drawing nearer than it was before, I couldn't see light at the horizon. My wolf grew weak, I felt I was going to melt the next moment. "Why doesn't the moon goddess do something about this?"

I was contemplating this on my bed when I saw a figure of someone in the fields from a far distance. I rose up from my bed where I stretched my head high over the headboard to see into the adjoining field. Walking closer to the window, I could see it was May, she was returning from the war I think. Why after the guards and her friend must have gone searching for her, I'm gonna tell her this, what really happened while she was away.

My joy knew no bounds, I hurriedly stepped into my sandals and buckled it. With a wind speed, I hastened downstairs and out of the castle. Everywhere was empty as Lucinda had earlier informed me, all strategic points where guards stood earlier were now vacant. You could only hear the sound of the wind. This isn't an issue as long as my love has returned safely. Being with her is much better than a thousand companions, she'd love and protect me. Her company is what I really need most to survive this change.

I run over to her and she seems too, both of us smiling. Few inches to her I feel a strange wind and darkness overwhelm me.

"I'm trapped," I remembered the instruction Lucinda gave me not to leave the castle no matter what. I remember the moon angels but none is around that I could see to call on for help. This must be another May, an alien picking up May's form. My consciousness started dropping low and low and before I knew I was unconscious.
