Chapter 33: Commission Settlement
After a day of travel and the unexpected attack, the young girl was exhausted. Though she had ultimately been saved under the protection of Judith and Liwei, the experience took a toll on her energy. By the late night, Yasha could no longer resist and fell into a deep sleep on the sofa in Liwei's room.
Sitting across from her, Liwei looked at the tired face of the girl and reflected on the conversations they had during this period. While they discussed various topics, the focus remained on Wisdom City. From societal phenomena to the increasing prominence of monsters and cults hidden among humans, and even the conflicts between the social system, capital, and impoverished workers.
Initially, Liwei had only intended to chat with this extraordinary girl, but during their conversation, he unexpectedly discovered that many of Yasha's thoughts were quite mature. Despite some occasional signs of immaturity due to her limited life experience, they couldn't overshadow her profound understanding and perspectives on many issues.
What intrigued Liwei the most was her statement from before: "This city is now in a dire state, riddled with wounds. It needs to restore its former glory; it needs healing." This sentence implied Yasha's aspirations, and Liwei wondered what kind of upbringing could lead to such lofty yet naive ambitions to save a city.
A vague idea formed in Liwei's mind, but he quickly dismissed it. "What am I thinking? Just the naive thoughts of a young girl. How old are you already, and you take these things seriously? We'll be parting ways tomorrow, and it won't concern me anymore. Why bother?"
With a self-deprecating thought, he gently lifted Yasha and placed her on the bed before lying down on the sofa himself.
...
In the early morning, the brilliant sunrise from the upper district's window awakened Liwei from his dreams. Turning to look, he saw Yasha still peacefully asleep.
He got up quietly, freshened up, and chose not to disturb the girl. Leaving the room, he headed to the first-floor hall of the Clover Branch, where many figures were already present—hunters, employers, engaging in the tasks of task issuance and acceptance, marking the start of a busy new day.
Liwei entered the hunter hall on the first floor, where he had no acquaintances. Unconcerned, he found a seat on his own.
He was waiting for Judith; they had agreed to meet here in the morning.
After a considerable wait, Judith finally arrived.
"You're late, Senior Judith," Liwei pointed at the clock on the hall wall. It was already half-past ten in the morning, and Judith was two hours late.
"Haha, my apologies, Liwei. After returning home last night, I went out for a couple of drinks with a few friends, got a bit carried away, and overslept today."
Liwei shook his head helplessly, deciding not to dwell on this matter. He said, "Let's settle our mission and get the rewards. I'm ready to leave."
"Young man, you're really in a hurry," Judith teased, leading Liwei to a window for hunters' services.
Standing in line, the person at the back inadvertently glanced backward and exclaimed with joy, "Lady Judith! Are you here to submit a commission?"
"Yeah." Judith nodded with a smile.
"Come to the front quickly." The person enthusiastically made way and shouted to the people in front, "Lady Judith is here; make way."
No one complained, and Judith, accustomed to such treatment, led Liwei to the very front.
Watching this scene, Liwei said, "It seems you're quite respected."
Clearly, the title "Witch" carried significant weight in the Clover Branch. This was not surprising. Achieving a development level of seven in the gene chain was a remarkable feat, making her a formidable force no matter which hunter branch she was in—an essential backbone.
Judith looked quite proud of this. "Of course, have you forgotten who I am?"
Due to Judith's reputation, the two avoided waiting in line and quickly completed the process of submitting and receiving their rewards.
While Judith received something unknown, Liwei was very satisfied with his share of the rewards. It could even be considered a pleasant surprise.
In this high-end place like the Clover Branch, in addition to various hardware facilities and the formidable strength of hunters, there was another aspect that surpassed Eileen's rundown tavern—the system was more perfect.
Liwei didn't directly receive any reward items, but he obtained a significant amount of Clover Points, equivalent to the exchange of two C-rank genetic liquids.
This so-called Clover Points system was a unique system of the Clover Branch, initiated by Mars. All the items rewarded were placed in the branch's warehouse and made public. As long as a hunter completed a mission issued by the Clover Branch, they would receive corresponding points that could be exchanged directly for money or used to redeem rewards from the guild warehouse.
At first glance, whether choosing money or item rewards, the basic rewards for completing a C-rank mission were similar. However, fundamentally, this was a reform highly beneficial to hunters.
For example, the value of a bottle of C-rank genetic liquid was roughly equivalent to two C-rank flesh cores. For some hunters, flesh cores were useless; however, others might have their own ways to transform flesh cores into C-rank genetic liquids.
Thus, there were two different demands for these two groups of people. According to the traditional commission reward method, the rewards were fixed when the task was issued, which was quite inflexible.
In comparison, the point system, which allowed hunters to freely exchange points, was more flexible and better suited to the interests of the hunters.
After Mars established this points system in the Clover Branch, it attracted the interest of the higher-ups of the Hunter Association. Many branches had already sent people to learn and study, intending to follow suit. There were even rumors that the Hunter Association would undergo a comprehensive reform in the near future, introducing a points system.
Of course, when this kind of reform could take place was completely unknown.
Ignoring these distant and unrelated matters, Liwei looked at the open C-rank and below permissions for items, and his eyes were dazzled by the multitude of choice
