Chapter 39: Mushroom Person
Entering the park, the two wandered around for over an hour.
Cai Yutong's patience was gradually wearing thin.
She said, "Mr. Li Wei, we've already looked around here, haven't we? We haven't seen any sign of that mushroom person. Shall we try looking elsewhere?"
Her character was still decent overall, without directly questioning anything.
Li Wei shook his head and said, "Let's search a little longer."
"Alright."
Another twenty minutes passed, and Cai Yutong couldn't help herself. She said, "I really think that mushroom person isn't here. We shouldn't continue wasting time."
As soon as she finished speaking, Li Wei put a finger to his lips, signaling her to be quiet.
The rising star of the Clover Branch obediently kept quiet, but her confusion deepened.
Li Wei pointed to a tree.
Cai Yutong looked over but didn't see anything strange except... the tree seemed a bit swollen.
Li Wei remained silent as he reached for his waist, pulled out his handgun, and fired directly at the left side of the tree.
Bullets sprayed, and then Cai Yutong saw a humanoid creature "detach" from the tree, revealing its true form.
Its color changed; it was a brownish-gray giant mushroom-like creature. This huge mushroom had bright red eyes, four legs, and four arms. Standing up, it was about one and a half times the height of a person, and with its mushroom cap, it was even larger, making its entire size quite daunting.
Clearly, this mushroom person was very adept at hiding. It was hard to imagine how it managed to conceal its massive body in a tree.
Previously, it had wrapped its body with its umbrella-like surface, which was very similar to the bark of the tree, and then attached itself to the tree. Its flexible body changed shape, allowing it to hide better. Apart from the slightly swollen trunk, there were hardly any other flaws.
Li Wei and Cai Yutong had passed by at least three times before, and only now had it been discovered.
"How did you find this monster?" Cai Yutong looked very surprised.
Li Wei replaced the handgun magazine with a new one as he said, "Now's not the time to talk about that. Get ready for battle."
The ordinary bullets Li Wei had fired previously obviously had little effect on this monster. Its umbrella-like surface completely blocked the bullets.
The attacked mushroom person began to shout in an unknown language and started rushing towards Li Wei and Cai Yutong!
The new magazine Li Wei replaced was filled with the secondary piercing bullets he had made before. After quickly changing the magazine, the mushroom person was about twenty or thirty meters away from him.
This was the best distance for Li Wei to showcase his shooting skills!
With flashes of gunfire, in an instant, Li Wei fired off the entire magazine of secondary piercing bullets.
The effect of the secondary piercing bullets was much better than ordinary bullets!
As the name suggested, these were bullets specially developed to enhance the penetration effect on the skin and muscles of opponents with high defense. While their stopping power might not be great, their armor-piercing ability was quite good.
The mushroom person, subjected to Li Wei's bullet barrage, was obviously not faring well.
Although its reaction was fast, and the defense of the umbrella-like surface on its head was indeed good, acting like a large shield, it was still a part of its body. After being hit by the piercing bullets, seven holes appeared on the umbrella surface, and some thick white liquid oozed out.
Li Wei speculated, was that the mushroom person's blood?
Seeing the monster charging at close range, Li Wei drew his short knife, ready to engage in combat.
But at this moment, Cai Yutong beside him took action.
When Li Wei had just fired the piercing bullets, Cai Yutong had already acted: she threw a grenade. As Li Wei drew his knife, the grenade exploded.
The thunderous force flipped the mushroom person's over two-meter-tall body directly. The explosion's shockwave effect wasn't very significant for this monster, but the grenade's biggest killing potential lay in the shrapnel that flew out after the explosion.
Clearly, Cai Yutong's grenade also had special energy attached to it. Otherwise, it wouldn't have caused such serious damage to a monster like the mushroom person.
After being hit by Cai Yutong's grenade, the mushroom person's mushroom-like body was riddled with wounds from the shrapnel.
This girl didn't stop there. After throwing the grenade, she also took out her own weapons: a white revolver and a black handgun. These two guns had unique shapes that Li Wei had never seen before, and he was sure they were not standard weapons.
With flashing gunfire, the bullets fired from Cai Yutong's black handgun caused a slight explosion effect upon hitting the opponent's body, and the wounds caused by them were obviously much larger than Li Wei's piercing bullets. On the other hand, the white revolver had a much lower firing rate, and the muzzle flash was blue. Sharp-eyed Li Wei could even see ice crystals forming on the mushroom person's wounds.
Li Wei couldn't help but be amazed. Was this girl so wealthy? Rune grenades, two guns that looked extraordinary at first glance, continuous firing of rune bullets... This was all clearly bought with money!
Under Cai Yutong's intense firepower, the mushroom person was completely immobilized. In fact, Li Wei felt that he didn't even need to intervene. It seemed that with Cai Yutong alone and with full firepower, it would be difficult for the monster on the opposite side to approach.
Money was indeed a good thing. Li Wei looked at Cai Yutong with a hint of envy. The grenade and bullets she had just fired probably cost more than three amethysts combined, right?
Really rich!
Having Li Wei take out three amethysts as consumables was simply unimaginable.
In fact, just the one magazine of piercing bullets he had fired earlier probably equated to five or six blue crystals, which made him feel slightly reluctant.
After replacing the new piercing bullet magazine, Li Wei hesitated for a moment but still didn't shoot. If Cai Yutong continued to maintain her firepower, she would probably kill the mushroom person soon. Whether he fired or not wouldn't really change the course of the battle
