Chapter 62: Additional Commission
Luck wasn't on his side; the abilities that appeared on the ninth page were not what Li Wei wanted. What he desired most was to further enhance the power of his demon left hand or Sharingan, to unlock more of their infinite potential and develop even stronger abilities. But alas, fate had other plans. The Transformation Jutsu was still abandoned, leaving Li Wei with no choice but to opt for Deadly Shot.
Too exhausted to test the exact effects and power of Deadly Shot, Li Wei collapsed onto his bed and fell asleep.
...
The next day, Li Wei woke up from his slumber. After a shower, feeling refreshed, he got up and prepared to head out. Not long after leaving the guild hall, a female voice called out from behind him, "Hey! Wait for me!"
It was Cai Yutong.
The girl hurried over to Li Wei and complained, "Why didn't you wait for me?"
"I thought you must be tired from yesterday's fight, so I didn't want to disturb your rest," Li Wei replied.
Cai Yutong sighed and said, "Tired? Do you think I fought as hard as you did? At most, I provided some firepower support from behind. It's just a bit of mental exertion and burden. Unlike you, who had to face danger head-on, occasionally using firearms for long-range support, and even making armor-piercing bullets at night. I really don't know how you managed to hold up under such high-intensity combat these past two days."
Li Wei smiled and said nothing more. Leading the way, he headed south. According to the recent rumors, the density of monsters in that direction should be relatively high compared to the other directions.
"Hey!" Cai Yutong called out to him, "Go east. Auntie Yang Lin just gave me a commission. She said there are refugees at the Minggao Mansion in the east, being evacuated and escorted by a team of hunters, but they've encountered strong enemies and are trapped in the neighborhood, needing support. This support commission has been defined as C+ level."
Yang Lin, mentioned by Cai Yutong, was an administrative staff member of the Clover Community, responsible for task distribution, registration, and settlement. It wasn't impossible for her to withhold and allocate commissions to people she was close to.
This commission to the Minggao Mansion residential area was one of those high-quality commissions. Among all the hunting commissions in the area, hunting monsters already offered considerable rewards. Adding this extra support commission meant a double reward for one trip. Such a good deal, no one could refuse.
Li Wei had originally planned to go hunting for half-mechanical monsters, so accepting this commission didn't deviate from his goal. Instead, it was an opportunity to earn a little more.
"Let's go then."
"I knew you wouldn't object," Cai Yutong said with a smile. "But we still need to wait a bit. We have two more teammates who haven't arrived yet."
"Oh?" Li Wei raised an eyebrow, feeling a bit reluctant. Unless necessary, he didn't like working with people he wasn't very familiar with.
Seeing Li Wei's thoughts, Cai Yutong said, "It's okay. It's Bendray and Qian Long. Senior Qian Long just recovered last night, and when they found out I had an additional commission, they wanted to come along. I agreed. You won't blame me for taking the liberty, will you?"
"No, if it's Bendray and Qian Long, I have no problem."
"That's good."
Just then, the two of them arrived.
"Hey, Li Wei," Bendray greeted Li Wei.
Since they were all somewhat familiar with each other, there was no need for further conversation. They headed east without delay.
Along the way, they encountered no monsters. It had been two days since the outbreak of the semi-mechanical creatures, and under the relentless efforts of the Clover Guild hunters, the number of these creatures had sharply declined.
Li Wei had killed more than thirty monsters in these two days, although others might not have been as aggressive as him, the base number of hunters in the Clover Guild was considerable, and there were still many hunters from other guilds. They had eliminated many semi-mechanical creatures.
At least within a ten-kilometer radius around the Clover Guild building, there were no traces of any enemy activity.
Although there were still quite a few semi-mechanical creatures active within the Clover Community, the situation near Merlin Avenue was even worse. But everything was moving in the right direction.
The number of hunters was increasing, and reinforcements from other branches were constantly arriving. Optimistically speaking, it would probably take another week for the semi-mechanical creatures in the Clover Community to be largely eradicated. At most, two weeks, and the monsters on Merlin Avenue would be almost wiped out. By then, this regional hunting commission would also come to an end.
However, the impact of this disaster on the Clover Community and Merlin Avenue would be enormous. Certainly, the existence of the regional commission had greatly promoted the prosperity of the Clover Guild. According to what Li Wei had seen in the past two days, there were at least five hundred hunters gathered here, with a trend of further increase.
However, it was an undeniable fact that the Clover Community and Merlin Avenue had been devastated. It could be foreseen that after this regional hunting commission ended, the false prosperity would fade, and the Clover Guild would usher in a dark period for some time. With fewer ordinary people around, there would naturally be fewer commissions.
Of course, this was uncertain. After all, the Clover Community and Merlin Avenue had to be rebuilt. There might be other opportunities in this process.
Thinking about these things, Li Wei and the others arrived at Minggao Mansion, thirteen kilometers away from the Clover Guild building.
Sure enough, in front of the gate of Minggao Mansion, there were a large number of semi-mechanical monsters gathered. Among them were more than twenty semi-mechanical humans and nearly half as many semi-mechanical dogs. But what was most troublesome was that among this group of people and dogs, there was a particularly tall monster.
The monster looked humanoid but was nearly three meters tall. It was huge, with a fierce face and a big belly. In addition to its body, it also wore several pure steel armor modules, carried a Gatling gun on its back, a shield in its left hand, and its right hand had been modified into a purely mechanical heavy hammer.
"Is this a humanoid tank?" Li Wei joked.
"You're actually right," Bendray said with a wry smile. "Who said this was a C+ level commission? How did something like this show up?"
"What is this?" Cai Yutong stared at it for a while, but didn't recognize it, just feeling somewhat familiar.
"This is a Flesh Giant, already heavily modified. If I hadn't personally dealt with this kind of monster, I wouldn't have dared to recognize it."
