Chapter 35: Stay
"Eileen?"
"Yeah, the communicator woke me up early in the morning, really annoying," complained Judith.
"Why couldn't she wait for me to come back and tell me herself?" Judith said, "She asked me to ask you if you want to stay at the Clover Branch?"
"Hmm?" Li Wei was a bit puzzled. "Stay at the Clover Branch? What does that mean?"
"It means exactly what it says. Actually, I think it's a good idea. Going back to District 17, there's hardly any suitable task for you to take on, it's too poor and backward there, you won't get much improvement."
Judith was right; the situation was indeed like that. What decent tasks and opponents could there be in District 17? What training and improvement could there be? On the contrary, the Clover Branch was located in the upper district and was a well-known place. The name of the Clover Branch was prestigious in the entire hunter community.
If possible, many people would want to join the Clover Branch. However, it's not that easy; there are many restrictions. The main two points are that non-locals registered as hunters don't enjoy the local hunter benefits, such as official medical services, discounts at the official hunter guild store, and so on.
Secondly, a considerable percentage of the tasks are restricted when hunters accept them. Li Wei had seen on the notice board in the Clover Branch hall that some tasks were marked with the word "local," and non-local registered hunters couldn't take these tasks.
These restricted tasks comprised more than half of the total tasks, and most of them were high-reward tasks. Public tasks were mostly laborious and had mediocre rewards.
These two points made it difficult for many hunters to work in other branches. Of course, there were ways to bypass these restrictions, mainly by changing the registered guild. This was usually not a difficult task; for example, if a hunter wanted to transfer to District 17, Eileen would undoubtedly agree.
However, if you wanted to transfer to a popular place like the Clover Branch, it would be extremely difficult. Unless you have connections with the upper echelons of the guild or create connections, it's generally impossible. Of course, if you have the strength of an essential figure or something like Judith, with a high development level, a senior and powerful evolved individual, any branch would welcome you with open arms.
However, such individuals are rare. This situation reminded Li Wei of the household registration system in his past life, another annoying thing. In this hunter profession, the situation of class stratification is not much better than that of ordinary people.
On the surface, being a hunter seems very fair; everything depends on strength, and the strong are respected. However, in reality, the gap in background and resources virtually determines that it's challenging for children of poor families to become successful.
To have powerful strength, three elements are essential: talent, resources, and effort. But for children of poor families, it's challenging to compare with the next generation of rich people or advanced hunters in these three aspects.
Children from rich families or those with advanced hunters as parents receive different education from an early age. Perhaps from the day they understand things, they have been learning how to control powerful strength and how to better develop their potential. They have top-notch educational resources, and things like gene fluid are readily available.
What about the children of the poor? They are still worried about what to eat for their next meal, and it might take them a year to save enough for a single D-grade needle of gene fluid.
This gap is too significant. Not to mention the gap between the rich and the poor; just talk about the family background. Hunters in the lower districts who want to stand out face great difficulty. The number of tasks added to the Clover Branch in a day may not be achieved by District 17 in a year. A large number of high-quality tasks and resources tilt the balance, making the attraction of the Clover Branch significant. The strength of hunters in the Clover Branch grows rapidly.
Li Wei wanted to stay in the Clover Branch, but how to stay?
"Don't worry about these things." After hearing Li Wei's concerns, Judith said, "If you want to stay here for a while, Eileen and I will write a training introduction letter together to Minister Mars. It will allow you to enjoy the treatment of local hunters temporarily."
It's good to have someone backing you up. However, Li Wei still had a question, "But the headquarters training is three months away, right? What about then?"
"The introduction letter transfer is a special system that will only temporarily allow you to enjoy the treatment of local hunters within three months. It won't directly change your registered location or affect your participation in headquarters training," Judith explained.
"Alright, I have no problem with that." It was a piece of good news, and Li Wei had nothing to be dissatisfied with. Judith showed a smile and said, "That's good. Eileen has done a big favor this time to get you this opportunity. You must perform well and not let her down."
"Sure, I won't disappoint her." Li Wei promised. He indeed needed to thank Eileen a lot. From the beginning of his rebirth until now, that woman had helped him so much that he didn't know how to repay her.
Apart from this, Li Wei had a subtle question — why was Eileen so good to him? While it's nice to have good things fall from the sky, it might also be deadly.
Of course, he had an acceptable relationship with Eileen, but it shouldn't be to the extent of helping him like this. He didn't believe that he had such charm, and he wouldn't be so naive in two lifetimes.
For someone unrelated, why? Maybe Li Wei was too suspicious, but it's better to be cautious in such matters. Don't have evil intentions, but don't be without defense.
For now, he could put aside these doubts. After all, he really needed Eileen's help. As for what Eileen was thinking, he didn't need to worry about it for the time being. He was just a poor guy with no family and didn't have anything that Eileen could plot.
Focus on his own affairs. Li Wei thought so. No matter what, becoming stronger himself was the most fundamental weapon to deal with all difficulties.
Look at the gene fluid and blood and flesh core just pulled out of the Clover Branch warehouse and the technology to make the engraving bullets. Look at the various tasks in the Clover Branch hall, Li Wei felt that he should have a relatively fulfilling time in the coming days.
