Chapter 38: Five Weeks.

'Yes, Mr. David, I am fully aware that we only have three-months until the contract expires."
'That is correct Mrs. Mahir and none of the rules were broke, right?"
She heard what he had said—it took her so much time to process and give him an answer. She doesn't have any other choice but to lie to him. They were going to get separated anyways. 'Of course, ye… yes. No strings attached, nothing," she chuckled nervously.
She ended the call and hugged her phone to her chest. It was odd and bothersome how her lawyer would call almost every day now that they had little amount of time left. Shouldn't they be the ones looking for him?
He bugs her with calls, reminding her how they only had little time left and reminded her about the fine and consequences to be faced if they refuse to separate.
She lets out a shaky breath—she hadn't told Mahir about the penalty to be failed if one fails to abide by the contract or the consequences to be faced… yet. Maybe it was too late to do that. Or maybe she was afraid of how he'd flip if he finds out she has been hiding that particular information from him for the past one year.
She was afraid of many things—what if Mahir somehow finds out she was hiding some information about the contract from him? At first, she didn't care because she married him for a reason—to get out of marrying Sadiq. And she hated him at the beginning. But now, things have changed and she was afraid she might not want to let go of him when the time comes.
Her heart sunk—the past three-months have been so amazing. One could think they were in love by how they show affection to each other. They did everything together, go to work together, have lunch together, sleep together. They were inseparable. And she wouldn't want that to end. Not in three months, not ever…
'Have you seen my phone? I can't seem to… oh here it is." He stroked her back gently, while passing her to pick his phone from her dressing mirror.
She stares at him as he walked back to her. 'What's wrong?" He asked worriedly. He kissed her cheek, her forehead, her lips, her neck… 'I'm going to keep on kissing you until you decide to speak," he told her and went ahead to kiss her all over her face. She chuckled, but not as she usually did. She did more of a giggle, not just a despondent laugh.
'Are you okay, please?" He asked, more concerned than he was before. She gave him an assuring smile before speaking, 'I'm fine, I promise. I need to take a shower and head to work. I'm almost late." She freed herself from his hold but he quickly held her back. 'Let me bath you," he whispered and kissed her neck.
She loves how clingy he way. It always brought wild yet satisfying butterfly to her stomach.
'No, Mahir. Last time we did that, we spent hours in the bathroom doing the same thing." She tiptoed and wrapped her arms around his neck.
'So?" His loops his arms around her waist and closed the gap between them.
'None of us went to work that day," she points out but he didn't care. He was his own boss, he could go to work whenever he wanted, and he could call her boss and inform him she wasn't coming to work.
'I don't like how I'm missing work, Mahir. I just feel… guilty." She had gotten promoted at work just a month ago and it has been much tougher than it was by the way her co-workers think it's because she was married to Mahir.
'Okay, if you insist. But I'm coming by to have lunch with you, okay?" He says as she pulled herself away from him. 'Can't, I have to go see a client in his office by that time," she said, walking towards the bathroom door.
'His office? Who is that that he cannot come to your working place? Why can't they send someone? You're a married woman and it's totally unacceptable." He reached for his phone and unlocked it to call her boss.
She grabs his phone. 'Relax, it's just Mr. Adam," she mouthed and winked at him. She walked away and sashayed into the bathroom.
He smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of his head—how could he forget that had a meeting about his new branch today? He was launching the new branch within a month and Bushra is the one taking care of his finances.
He left her room and headed to his to get ready for work.
**
She clenched her stomach as she gushed out everything she had eaten that morning. It felt like her tummy was under attack and everything was forced out of her. She wipes her mouth with the back of her hand before she turned on the tap and rinsed her mouth. She washed her face and sluggishly walked out of the bathroom.
She slumped down on the couch in her office and closed her eyes shut. The headache was back again. She hissed slightly and massaged her temple. She has been experiencing constant headache for the past three days or more.
Bushra wasn't a fan of drugs. Despite how the headache was splitting her head, she didn't feel the need to take any aspirin. She believes it was stress from work and Mahir's needs. She smiled sheepishly when his thought came to her mind.
He has called her more than usual this morning just to remind her about their meeting. She knew he wasn't after the meeting, and she was ready to play hard to get with him today.
Her eyes lids became heavy and she knew if she kept laying down there, she'd fall asleep. Her joints were aching her as her head felt as though it would rip into two. She slowly got to her feet and went on with her morning.
By the time she was done with her second client of the day, it was already time for lunch which meant she had to leave to Dan-Musa Global Trust. The headache was still throbbing and piercing through her head.
It was time to head to the hospital before the fever gets worse—she mused to herself as she packed her things to leave. She was done for the day and the only thing she had left was to go meet Mahir, and the meeting is something they could do at home. That's if he doesn't distract her with his touch and kisses.
Her stomach flirted and she felt the urge to throw up again. She swallowed it back and made her way out of the building. She had her driver waiting for her at the parking lot.
'Hey Steve, we're not going to Mahir's company anymore. Just take me to Nisa premier hospital please," she instructed and he respectfully responded before staring the car. She closed her eyes and relaxed back. She was feeling all sorts of emotions. Everything felt unreal to her—she didn't like how she was feeling. She felt like gushing her eyes out with tears whenever she remembers her lawyer's reminder, whenever she remembered they only had three months left together.
A lone tear rolled down without her knowledge. She didn't know why she was crying; she couldn't even control it. Another tear cascaded down and it kept coming continuously. Her head was throbbing with ache, her chest felt heavy and all she wanted was to cry for hours for no reason. But she had has a reason to—Mahir…
Now, if she refuses to get the divorce, she has to pay the penalty which she can't afford and also face the consequences of their parents finding out the truth. How would her father react if he finds out she got herself into this mess?
She knew Mahir could comfortably pay the penalty since he's rich. But it would only happen if they refuse to get divorced? Does he even want to be with her just as much as she wants to be with him? Or he wanted a divorce? What if he doesn't want to let go but then finds out about what she has been hiding from him? He might hate her for it and even end up leaving her.
She couldn't bare the pain of losing him at any cost but she can't talk him into doing something he doesn't will to. Despite how everything has been so mind-blowing between them, Mahir was still as persistent and domineering as he was.
Her phone chimed, jolting her out of her miserable reverie. She checked; it was Mahir calling—she was going to call her anytime soon. She dropped the phone back into her bag. If she picked up, she might panic and didn't want him to know where she was until she was done.
She loved how caring he is—within split seconds, she'd see him in the premises of the hospital if she dares let me find out she's sick.
She car came to a halt in front of the hospital and she hopped out. 'I won't take long," she told him before closing the door and heading into the building.
Her breathing became shallow as her heart milled rigid against her ribcage. It felt as though the room was spinning and she'd throw up any moment. Clenching her forehead, she spotted the nearest seat and plumped down to catch her breath and compose herself.
She closed her eyes and massaged her temple to her the headache lessen at least. Whenever she has a fever, it always beats her down until she gets a medical attention. It was that time again, but it was worse than it's always was before. She was experiencing more headache, dizziness, joint pain, backpain, and today she had started throwing up.
'Ma'am, are you okay?" She heard a very soothing voice as they place their hands on her shoulder. She slowly looks at the woman and instantly felt the urge to burst into stairs.
It was a nurse. She looks young and nifty, almost looking too young to be a nurse. Her smile faded away the moment Bushra looked at her. She shakes her head and spoke, 'You're not okay. C'mon, you need to see a doctor." She helps her up and took her to a room.
After getting her information, she left to check in Bushra's file to see a doctor. And half an hour later, she was in the doctor's office being asked about what was wrong with her.
'How many times did you throw up today?" He asked yet another question and she carefully answered. He finally raised his head up and smiled. Bushra finds it awkward that he'd do that. 'When was the last time you had your period, Mrs. Adam?" He questioned, relaxing his chin on his palm like a ten-year-old listening to his grandmother's childhood stories.
She stared into a blank space, wondering what was the reason behind him asking that sort of question. She only feels feverish. 'Last week Wednesday. But it didn't last longer than it does and it was very light," she told him. Maybe it's the fever causing all that anomaly in her body.
He chuckled softly and shook his head. 'I don't believe that's period, Mrs. Mahir. You might be pregnant because it seems like you've been experiencing morning sickness and…"
'What do you mean by I'm pregnant? I just had my period last week—can I get pregnant within a week?" There was no way she'd believe the nonsense he was telling her now.
'That period you're talking about might not be it, Mrs. Adam. You said it yourself that it was very strange. So, it might be spotting which is harmless. It's when the developing embryo plants itself in the wall of your womb. It happens when the time of your period would've been due. So, to clear all these misunderstandings, you'd do an ultrasound scan now."
She hesitates at first but nodded. She wanted to clear her doubt and prove to the doctor that she wasn't pregnant. She just hopes she wins this argument. How could she even face Mahir and tell him that she was pregnant with his baby? Her lawyer… the contract… three months…
A female doctor was already in there. She asked Bushra to lay down and she did just as she was told. Her heart was beating so hard and fast that it was audibly heard from the sonogram. 'Just calm down, okay? Deep breaths," the doctor said in a soothing voice as she gently massaged Bushra's shoulder.
Bushra looked at the screen despite not actually knowing how it works. She has accompanied Yasmin a couple of times to see the baby through the screen, she had never in her wildest dreams actually had that thought that she'd one day be the one going through the same process Yasmin went.
Bushra's eyes gaped out—she spotted a yolk sac inside the gestational sac. It looked like a tiny balloon.
'You are approximately five weeks old pregnant and your pregnancy seems healthy," the doctor announces as she removed the transducer probe from Bushra's tummy.
Bushra was caught off guard. She didn't know exactly what to say or how to react. She wouldn't want to show them she was grieving over being pregnant. 'I'm pregnant?" She mouthed, looking at the two doctors.
'Yes, Mrs. Mahir, five weeks old. Congratulations," he cheered, offering a smile to her. She only managed to nod her head but couldn't hide the fact that she was panicking over how her husband would react or when her lawyer finds out.
After getting the pregnancy results and the medications prescribed for her, she left.
Her phone chimed, making her to jolt in fear. She immediately checks it, there was a message from her lawyer and also a message from Mahir.
‘Steven told me you went to the hospital. Are you alright? Please call me when you get this message, I'm worried sick.'
She lets out a long sigh, calming herself from bursting into tears outside of the hospital. She gets into the car and ordered Steven to take her home.
'Ma'am, Mr. Adam called asking where we are and I didn't have a choice…"
'It's okay," she cuts in. She wasn't even upset about that. She already had enough on her plate and better things to worry about. She checks Mr. David's message.
‘I almost skipped my mind to remind you; don't forget about the penalty to be paid and consequences if parties failed to abide by the rules.'
