Chapter 43: The Sudden Truth.
'This is Mahir Adam speaking, and what do you mean she has to be divorced ASAP? We still have a month left."
Bushra laid there, her eyes wide open as she stared at him on phone with their lawyer. Her heart was beating so hard that she felt as though it would fall out of its position. Mahir seems so comfortable and calm, whereas she was already having another meltdown deep inside.
What if he tells him about the penalty she has been hiding from him and gets angry with him again? He'd hate her for this, more than he did before. He might never want to see her again for lying to him yet again. Heck, he might even divorce her at the spot and leave.
'Oh… uhm… ye-yes sir…"
'Let's schedule a meeting, tomorrow morning—at my office." He ends the call after that. 'Your lawyer is up to something, I can sense it," he said to her as moved closer to the bed. He gently scooped her face in his warm palms. 'Everything's going to be alright because I'm going to fix it, Okay?" He said, assuring her. She managed to smile and nodded—she didn't believe he could do that.
But… Mahir was capable of doing anything. He always gets his way with things—no matter how difficult that thing was.
He has efficaciously made her fall in love with him—that was imposing.
Mommy walked back in together with Mansur. Mahir still had her in his arms—he didn't care about who saw them and what they saw them doing.
Bushra smiled sheepishly when mommy approached them.
'Don't tell me you were crying because he wasn't here," she said, observing at them in shudder. Half an hour ago, she was doing her best to stop Bushra from crying but it was avail. 'You should've told me you needed him here since the moment you woke up instead of giving yourself a headache."
Mahir freed her from his hold and got to his feet. 'Mommy, let me… speak with Mansur for a moment," He said timidly, scratching the back of his head.
'I heard the good news, Congrats," Mansur said ecstatically but Mahir dragged him out of the room before he could utter anything again.
'And you said you wanted out of the marriage," Mansur said mischievously as they entered his office. 'It didn't seem like you want a divorce in there," He spoke again, making Mahir to smack his lips in infuriation. He knew he was in love with Bushra but he never knew it was that sturdy until he met her in that state and also found out she felt the same way about him. He felt somewhat mortified now that Mansur knows he was in love with her—after all he has blabbered about divorcing her and how he hated being with her.
'That's not why I'm here, Mansur. How's she? What's wrong with her?" He asked—needn't to answer to his preposterous comments.
Mansur shoulder shrugged as he smiled. 'Your wife's going to be fine. She just needs to be eating more, stay hydrated, well taken care of and she also needs bedrest—lots of it."
Mahir nodded his head in understanding. She has been through a lot and the rest of her pregnancy journey needs to go smoothly. It meant he always has to be there for her—even if it meant he's going to be off work to be there for her.
The next day, Bushra got discharged and she was back home.
She had her bath and had lunch in bed. The whole time, he had his eyes on her. He felt as though she'd get hurt if he took his eyes off her. He has a meeting with Mr. David but didn't care if he was late to meet him.
She matters more.
She's now his priority and he cared about her more than anything.
Before he met her, he felt like he would never give love a chance. He felt like nobody would be able to fill the void in his heart. But all changed since he met her—all changed when he gave her the space, the chance in his heart. She broke the barriers, she opened him up without even realizing she did, she made him feel alive. She made him feel like he's genuinely being loved for real, not because of his looks, or wealth, or power…
Now he came to realize that he's hopelessly in love with her.
'Mahir! What's with the stare?" She snapped her fingers, making him to blink back to reality.
He got to his feet from the bed, heaving a sigh of frustration. How did he manage to zone out? What if something had happened to her when he took his eyes off her?
He grabs her around the waist with trembling fingers. He was gentle, scared of hurting her or the baby.
She laughs, the melody of a song he could listen to for the rest of his life.
'You know I'm not going to break, right? I'm not as delicate as you think I am."
He shook his head in disbelief. Maybe he should let go. Maybe she needs to sit down… 'I feel like I'm going to break you. I can't believe I'm doing this. I am holding you too tight? Are you still dizzy? Do you still feel like breaking my jaw like you said—"
She puts a finger to his lips, silencing him.
'Just shut up and kiss me," she breathes out.
As if he was waiting, he kissed her with his trembling mouth.
Her heart felt like its flying and the world seemed to stop. Reality faded as his lips moved with hers. She knotted her fingers in his hair, and melted against his body. She would've fallen if he had not been there to hold her.
He pulls back and sets his eyes on hers, searching, trying to read her mind. It was filled with purity and amity.
'There is only one thing I want you to do—never give up on me. When I push you away, pull me back. When I shout at you because I am so angry, hug me tightly. When I don't answer calls, you now know all my hiding spots…"
Bushra lets out a soft laugh. She has recently found out about all his getaways—it was either he was in one of his guest houses that she all knows about, or at the only hotel he checks in.
'When I get overly clingy, assure me that I'm your only one. When I feel overly insecure, remind me how blessed I am. When I'm about to give up on you, kiss me and show me why I shouldn't. I know this is too much to ask. But still, I am hoping that you love me enough to do this, to stay, and to be a little more patient."
She stares at him for a moment—it made his heart sunk to his stomach. Maybe he asked for too much. Maybe he shouldn't have said all those words to her.
'How much do you love me?"
He raises his brows not sure of what she just said. He was so afraid to mess things up with her. She's his first love… he wouldn't want to mess it up.
'So much that I'd rather have bad times with you than good times with someone else. I'd rather be beside you in a storm, than safe and warm by myself. I'd rather have hard times together than have it easy apart. I'd rather have the one who holds my heart… you."
Her smile widens as she pulled him in for a tight hug. 'Careful," he whispers as he chuckled.
'I have to get going now, I have a meeting with the lawyer at 4pm and it's almost 5:00." He heaved a sigh of distress. He didn't want to leave her sight. But the only way to keep having this moment with her was going to meet the lawyer and sorting things out.
Bushra swallowed her and nodded. 'Oh, yes…" she mouthed as she managed to smile. 'Call me as soon as you need anything."
She managed to smile again and nodded. 'I'll be fine, I promise." She kissed him again before he left.

'So, this contract we signed… how does it work again?" He asked imperturbably as he typed away from his phone. He has so much on his plate but their issue with Bushra's lawyer wasn't one. It was something he was sure he'd fix in no time.
Mr. David shifts uneasily on his sit as he cleared his throat. He could swear his loud heart beat was heard in the room by the guard swarming around him. He looks around as his stomach churned with trepidation. 'Mr. Adam… you can't just call off the contract just like that. There are rules…"
'The rules we made up?" He cuts in, making him to stutter. 'No… yes… sir, please. It's either you abide by the rule you made or make up for breaching the contract."
Mahir finally darts his eyes towards him. He could see the fear in his eyes and he knew something was shady. 'You're talking about compensation?" He asked and Mr. David immediately nodded, almost smiling at the mention of that.
'Let me get this straight, so we're going to have to abide by the rules we made or pay a certain amount of money for a puerile contract we created? Classic!" He threw his head back laughing.
'Sir, it's not that simple. I have already issued…"
'You have already what, Barrister. David?" Mahir yelled tediously. He was getting out of patience and he could flip any second.
The door gently opens and Mahir's P.A, Musa walks in. He bowed his head and waited for permission before he approached his boss. He dropped a file before Mahir and shifted back.
'This is it?" Mahir asked as he opened to the first page of the few papers. 'Yes sir, the other felon is already being detained as we speak."
Barr. David shifted in his seat and cleared his throat. 'Sir, it's… it's like you're busy now… I can… we can always reschedule the meeting to when you're…"
'Who is Zainab Ibrahim Maikano? The name sounds familiar… Maikano…" He murmurs the name, reasoning of where he has heard the name before. He looks at his P. A and any other person in the room but Barr. David that has already lost faith in life.
'She's Dr. Ibrahim Maikano's daughter, your father's friend," Musa explained and Mahir immediately evoked where he heard the name from before. He smirked as he nodded his head. 'So, he's working for her?"
David was paralyzed to the spot, the menacing aura holding him in a tightening grip. Terror sucked the very breath from his mouth when Mahir finally set his eyes on him. David felt as though the floor would just do him a favor and swallow him up.
'Mr. Adam, we can always reschedule if you're busy right now," Barr. David still insisted. The moment Mahir mentioned Zainab's name, he knew it was over for him. They were busted and it was a no end zone.
'Of course, we can reschedule and have our next me meeting in court or at the police station—your choice." He smirked at him as he got to his feet.
Before he could attempt to move or say anything, he was grabbed by the arm and forced up by Mahir's guards. 'What? No… sir, I can explain… I swear… she forced me. She threatened me and my family… sir, please…"
Mahir didn't pay heed to his pleads. His mind was so occupied with Bushra's thoughts and their baby that he didn't felt the need to say anything.
He had long known Barr. David was up to something. During his time away from Bushra, he had his P. A Musa investigating while some of his men spied on David's whereabouts. And his guts were right, he was up to ending their marriage just so Zainab could get her revenge on something that wasn't his fault.
Before he left, the police arrived and David was arrested.
