Day Full Of Surprises

Groaning, I swatted at the alarm clock that persistently rang every five minutes, having put it on snooze multiple times. Despite setting around ten alarms, my not-so-morning-friendly self struggled to comply with the demands of my new job, which required early rising and punctuality.
I reluctantly reached out from under the blanket, silencing the alarm with a swift slap. Throwing the blanket aside, I reluctantly moved my groggy self out of bed and stumbled towards the bathroom.
Reflecting on my teenage years, I remembered how challenging it used to be for someone like me to wake up early. However, with the passage of time, life had imparted valuable lessons, prompting changes in my routine.
Though my background still boasted a millionaire family legacy, life had taught me much more. The rigid class system in our society ruthlessly categorized individuals, creating earthly lords and subservient slaves. Those with the label of millionaires, flaunting grand houses, hefty bank balances, and opulent palaces, claimed the upper echelon, deeming themselves kings. Meanwhile, those from the poor or middle class found themselves crushed within the hierarchy of social systems.
As I left the flat, Carl remained sound asleep, prompting me to opt for a cab to avoid disturbing him. Exiting the apartment, I navigated through the deserted corridor of our floor, convinced that all the neighboring apartments were vacant. Pressing the 'G' on the keypad, the lift door split open as I embarked on the next chapter of my day.
Boarding the lift, the doors slid closed, leaving me with legs resembling jelly, sleep-deprived eyes, and a face saturated in drowsiness. Although everything felt new, I was confident that familiarity would soon settle in.
Lost in my own drowsy thoughts, the lift suddenly jerked, and the doors opened. Assuming I had arrived at the G floor, I prepared to step out, but my feet hung in mid-air as my eyes caught the red-lit digit '7' on the keypad. It seemed someone from the seventh floor had summoned the elevator, causing an unexpected pit stop.
Still not fully awake, the scene that unfolded in the next two seconds shattered my drowsiness, leaving me astonished and almost grossed out. In shock, I stood frozen in the elevator's corner as he stepped in and pressed the already blinking red 'G' button.
It was the first time I had seen him in his professional attire, that of a doctor's. A stethoscope curled around his neck, and a white doctor's coat adorned his blue scrubs. Despite the professional attire, he looked remarkably attractive. Although I prided myself on being a hard rock to melt, I felt a subtle smothering in the heat of his presence.
"All ready for your first day of school as a teacher," he inquired, his back turned to me.
"Yes," I replied, my response carrying across his shoulder.
"Great," he said, an air of casualness in his tone. "Carl isn't going to drop you off?" he asked, as if it were a casual afterthought.
"No, he's sleeping. So I think it's better not to disturb him," I explained.
He mumbled something, as if processing information or gearing up for his next question. "Then how will you get there?" he asked, firing off another query. Frankly, I wasn't in the mood to delve into the logistics of my morning commute. I yearned for a different line of conversation, though uncertain about its nature.
"I'll take a cab," I responded, steering away from the topic I wasn't keen on discussing at that moment.
"Amm.." he again got lost in his own thoughts. Luckily, this time he got out of it with something interesting and something which my ears wanted to hear.
"I'll drop you."
I lost my senses. I literally freak out of amazement. What. Really. Are you freaking damn kidding me. Seriously.
I wanted to tell him he spoke of my heart. Yes yes. I would love to be with you in your car.
That would be the best first day of school if you drove me to it. That would made my day.
I wanted to scream out loud. Yes, yes man, I'm dying to be with you.
"No thanks. You, yourself, are going to work. I don't wanna bother you. I'll manage." I said instead.
Why- why, why I said this.
No.
I wanted to go with you. Don't listen to me.
I've gone mad.
Lost my senses.
Forget it please. Forget it. Take me along. Drop me off. I wouldn't mind.
"I haven't asked you. I told you. You're new here. It'll difficult for you."
"Ok." I finally agreed.
I preferred not to resist out of fear that he actually didn't agree with me.
The elevator's door split open when it reached the ground floor. He took the lead as I followed him towards the parking lot.
He flipped open the door of the passenger seat as I sat in and he slammed it shut afterwards. His rich cologne again took over my senses when he sat in the car.
He drove the car out of the parking lot and then we were on road, but neither of us exchanged any words between us till now.
His gaze was fixated on the roads above and mine traded time to time from the roads to my reflection in the side mirror and back to him.
We covered half of the way with our mouths zipped and silence lingering over our heads.
Finally, I decided to break it off.
"Can I play some music?" Else I will sleep right here."
I Giggled.
"Why not!" He said without averting his gaze from the road.
I played the music, now atleast we had something in between us to kills off the weird silence.
The sound of the song was so refreshing that after a while I started moving my body and began dancing while sitting.
Suddenly, he changed the route of his eyes and pointed them on me for a some seconds and smiled.
In the one moment he took all I had. My courage, persistent, enthusiasm and determination of not melting for him.
The way his lips parted and showed the gleaming pearls jutted in his mouth. He threw arrows of love in my heart, straight.
I had so much to tell him, especially after the lunch we had together, the three of us. I wanted tell him how he win my heart with his plain ideology.
I had so many questions rising within me, taking the form of mountains but I lacked the courage to ask them as we weren't as good friends as to ask personal questions.
I wanted to know about his family background. Yes, that's the first thing I wanted to know about him. The stuff he had said earlier I was sure he belonged to a middle class family.
But how should I ask him directly. It would sound so weird.
He eyes had been darted on the roads still as the music had been playing on the radio. I gather all of my courage and decided to initiate a conversation between us.
"So in which hospital do you work?" I asked.
That's the only suitable question I could think of in terms of starting a conversation with him and not exceeding any limits, also not to sound personal.
"Riverside county hospital." He said.
"Oh I see." I said.
"Why did you choose this profession?"
I know that's the silliest question but I couldn't think of anything else, also I wanted to keep it going.
Because, I always wanted to learn medical. I wanted to heal people, make their lives better and help them. That's the aim of my life." He said.
"That's great."
That's it. I stopped right there as I didn't want it to make more awkward by asking him more silly questions. We had a very brief conversation and soon after that we reached at my destination.
I stepped off the car and hit the door shut and was about to turn around when I hear him.
"Best of luck." He shouted from inside.
"Thanks." I said.
"What's your off timing?" He asked.
"2pm." I said.
"Oh, ok. See you then" he waved at me.
I wanted to ask him what he meant by this but the expression he made by waving at me restricted me to do so.
I walked towards the gates as he stayed there for a while and left for his destination after I entered the gate as I averted to check whether he's still there ot left.
He wasn't there. That day was full of surprises. I would say I don't like them. Because I loved them.
