Chapter 29_ A Tuning Shop

Maranello's Enterprises

In the office of Franko, Kane and Arya strode in as their eyes met Franko's penetrating gaze. "Please, take a seat. I am contemplating a new project and I could use the fresh perspective of two young minds," he said with a warm smile.

Kane and Arya settled onto the plush leather chairs across from Franko as he unveiled his idea. "I am considering opening a Maranello tuning shop," he announced, causing Kane to furrowed his brow in disapproval.

"Oh come on, Dad. A tuning shop? Those are associated with roughnecks and snobbish rich kids. It's not aligned with our brand," Kane objected.

"Exactly! I have no intention of creating a typical tuning shop. My vision is to establish a professional, almost surgical atmosphere. A place where the most skilled street racers in the world can optimize their cars," Franko elaborated.

Arya chimed in with an enthusiastic nod, "That sounds like a fantastic idea."

Franko turned to her with a grateful nod, "Thank you. But as Kane pointed out, we need a strong marketing strategy. We must differentiate ourselves from the underground scene."

Kane's scowl deepened, "And how do you plan on doing that?"

"That is precisely why I have called upon both of you. I value your unique perspectives. Arya, what are your thoughts?" Franko asked, turning to Arya.

"Well...I believe the best approach is to target the source: street racing. If we can consistently have a Maranello-tuned car dominate the racing scene, word will spread like wildfire throughout the city," Arya suggested, earning a nod of approval from Franko.

"Excellent! That is exactly what I had in mind. To dive straight into the heart of the action. And you, Kane?" Franko inquired, turning to his son who had been silent for a few minutes.

Kane gave a nonchalant shrug, "It's a solid idea, but only if you have the right pilot. If you suffer a loss, it will reflect poorly on the business," he warned, causing Franko to nod in agreement.

"Right. Which brings me to my next point. One of the most prestigious street competitions is coming up and I thought it would be a great opportunity to have one of our top cars, branded with our tuning shop, and driven by a celebrity racer," Franko stated, gazing at Kane with hopeful anticipation.

"Is that so?" Kane replied nonchalantly, causing the conversation to stagnate and the room to fall into an uneasy stillness. Minutes passed in silence until Arya leaned in closer to Kane and whispered in his ear.

"He's talking about you, Kane. He wants you to be the driver." She murmured softly.

"I am aware of that." Kane responded, and Franko, who had overheard their conversation, interjected.

"And?" He prodded.

"I cannot sell out. I cannot put my name on a tuning brand. I cannot represent a tuning shop." Kane stated firmly, prompting a frown from Franko.

"Why not?" Franko Maranello inquired, the hint of worry etched on his features.

"Because that would jeopardize the respect I have earned over the years." Kane replied, causing Franko to scoff.

"Respect...what use is respect if it is holding you back from achieving greater things?" Franko retorted.

"You know what? I am leaving..." Kane declared, standing up and slamming the door behind him as he left Franko's office.

‘These two have serious issues.’ Arya thought silently, turning to a visibly shaken Franko. "Sir, I understand that there are differences between you and Kane, but he is an exceptional driver. When he is properly motivated and dedicated, he can accomplish anything." Arya spoke earnestly to Franko.

"I know, Arya. I am aware of his potential...unfortunately, our differences are hindering his success." Franko sighed sadly. "Now, I turn to you, Arya. If anyone can persuade Kane to consider the tuning shop, it is you."

"Me? How can I do that?" Arya asked, eyes widening in disbelief. Franko simply smiled at her.

"Because you're Arya. Now go." Franko's words echoed in her mind as she awkwardly smiled at him before exiting his office.

=====

As she entered their workspace, she noticed Kane lost in thought at his desk. She made her way over and placed her hands on his shoulder, causing him to snap out of his reverie and turn to face her.

"Hey," he said, pulling her into his embrace. Arya wasn't sure how to react, but decided to let him hold her for a moment.

"What are you doing? Someone might come in," Arya said, attempting to break free from his arms.

"Please, just let me hold you for a bit," Kane pleaded, hugging her tightly and taking in her unique scent as he rested his head on her shoulder and buried his face in her hair.

"Where does Piston usually hang out?" Kane suddenly asked, surprising Arya with his question.

"I'm not sure, but he does frequent the bar where Chloe and I go," Arya replied, caught off guard by his change in demeanor.

"I have an idea on how to get under his skin. We're going to that bar tonight!" Kane's eyes lit up as he lifted his head from her shoulder.

"What? Why?" Arya exclaimed, raising an eyebrow and silently wondering what he had in mind.
