Chapter 87_ Being Jealous

"What?” Marco exclaimed, completely stunned by the revelation of her words. Marco stepped forward and faced Kane. “You remember what I promised to do? If I saw you again, don't you?” He said, and without any warning, he swung a powerful hook at Kane’s jaw, putting him on the floor.

Kane shook his head, wiped the blood from his lips with his thumb, and stood up, looking straight at Marco.

‘Now they're going to kill each other.’ Arya mused as she tensed up.

But instead, Kane tightened his fist, took a deep breath, and said calmly, “I’m sorry for my actions, Marco. I shouldn't have pulled that shit on you. Friends were supposed to talk to each other.” A thick silence fell on the room as both men looked at each other, and Arya didn't dare to breathe out.

‘Is he going to hit him again? Are they going to make peace? Arya thought, and as she was still trying to imagine the possible outcome, Marco simply stormed out without a word, slamming the door behind him.

Kane sighed as he looked at Arya. “That didn't feel like progress, did it?”

Arya shrugged. “I don't know. At least he hit you just once.”

"Right. About that…" Kane said, and he reached out inside his jacket as he took out a decent-sized club. Arya stared at the weapon, nonplussed.

“What is that supposed to mean?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.

“I was spending time with Evelyn trying to rectify the mistake I made years ago. I think those two can still be together and be happy. But I was too stupid to tell you. I wanted to tell you all about it after I was able to make it happen. I wanted it to be a surprise to you.” Kane explained, and Arya's jaw dropped.

"That's the reason we had this horrible fight? Because of them?” She asked incredulously.

Kane nodded. “I fucked up big time, I know. I'm the king of idiots. So, you should hit me as well. I deserve it.”

“But —-”

"You don't have to say anything. I know you can kiss my ass barehanded. But since you're hospitalized, I thought that you could use the help. It's pretty hard. I tested it.” Kane said, and Arya shook her head.

“You are crazy.” She said it with an amused smile on her face.

"Of course, I’m crazy for you." Kane said, moving closer to the bed as he handed her the club. He continued, “You know I have a thick head, so you shouldn't be afraid to hit as hard as I deserve.” Kane closed his eyes and waited for the hit.

“Are you really willing to get a beating for my forgiveness?" Arya asked,

“I disappeared for two days. It was so stupid.” Kane answered,

"It was. But I appreciate your courage. Just try to think next time, alright?” Arya asked, pulling him by his neck towards her, and Kane hummed at her.

"I miss you.” He murmured against her skin and continued, "I was so scared when I saw you lying unconscious on the ground. Don't ever scare me like that again! Got it?” Kane said, his voice thick with emotion.

Arya nodded. "Yes, I’m sorry I had you worried over me. Can we wrap it up already? And get out of here?”

“Woah, not so fast, cowgirl. I want to check with the doctor first.” Kane said, and Arya sighed.

"Okay, but let's hurry up. I'm tired of being in here.” She said, and Kane nodded, leaning forward to kiss her head.

"It won't take long.”

Twenty minutes later, Kane handled the discharge papers, and Arya was finally free to leave the hospital. Kane carried her all the way from the ward to the hospital’s parking lot, where he parked his car, and placed her on the passenger seat gently, putting her seat belt in place.

As Kane drove, he drove so slowly that Arya couldn't help but feel that she had been transported to the old days when she was still afraid of speed, and Kane was always driving at a snail’s pace because of her. “Why are you driving so slowly? I don't have that problem anymore." Arya asked, frustrated with the way he was going with the current speed.

Kane glanced at her and said, “You’re not well, Arya. The doctor said there was no stress, so I don't want to —--”

"I can assure you that going this slow is stressing me out more than anything. Let me drive; I need to calm my nerves.” Arya said with a roll of her eyes.

“I don't think you should drive. You just got out of the hospital. You're too weak.” He said that, and Arya snapped.

“Do I need to crush a nut between my fingers to show how weak I am, or are you going to give me the wheel right now?” Arya threatened, and Kane pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Alright, Alright. It's all yours." He compromised and pulled over the car while they switched seats.

“Ah." Arya hummed, feeling better than she had thought as she drove. After a moment of silence, she said, “By the way, those kisses you saw were nothing, you know? I was just happy that the test drive went well.”

“I figured that out once I calmed down.” Kane said, leaning against the passenger seat, and sighed, "I don't know what happened; I just lost it. I’ve never been so jealous before.”

Arya chuckled. “Same for me. I don't know how to manage jealousy because I’ve never had this problem before.” At her words, Kane started laughing. “What's so funny?" Arya asked curiously.

“I just…. I knew that it was possible to screw up a relationship because you don't care enough. But it's never occurred to me that you can screw things up even more if you care too much.” Kane said, and a small smile spread across Arya's lips.

"Well, that's something they don't write in romantic novels, isn't it?” She said that and quickly pulled over, kissing Kane on the nose. And before Kane could react, she was on the move again.
