Chapter 64_ Go In Peace, Child.

After taking her shower, Arya didn't feel like resting at all, her mind was awake and she kept obsessing over one single thought as she mused silently, ‘Fucking Evelyn. I couldn't even take a look at the drawings because of her.’

“Hey, what's wrong?" Kane asked, when he saw her clenching her fists.

“I really wanted to take a look at the drawings but Evelyn showed up at the restaurant pretty early and Marco went away taking everything with him.” Arya explained, and Kane gave her a nod.

"Always a trouble maker that one. You can take a look at them tomorrow." Kane said, and Arya shook her head.

"Marco is weird about the documentation. What if he doesn't feel like it?” Arya asked, and Kane shrugged.

"He knows how to be a pain in the ass. You know what? We should go to the office tonight and take those documents from the safe.” Kane said, making Arya blinked at him.

"But isn't that illegal?"

“We are on a mission for my father, and those documents belong to him. I can't see anything illegal in that.” Kane said, and Arya nodded her head thoughtfully.

"But how do we open the safe?" She asked with furrowed brows.

"Don't worry about that. Marco has a terrible memory, he writes everything down. And I know his code and strategies.” Kane said,

"Okay, let's do this." Arya replied, and Kane cocked his brows at her.

"Are you sure?”

"Yes, you are right. It's part of the job we’ve been sent to do. And it’s the best thing for the company. I will go get changed so we can go.” Arya said as she walked to the other room.

They got to the office in less than an hour, and the building was dark and silent. As they sneaked to Marco's office, every sound felt ten times louder than usual to Arya as she turned to Kane and whispered, “I have a bad feeling about this."

"Oh, stop it. I was missing the action." Kane said, his voice, a hint of playfulness in them.

“Yeah, but since we arrived everything has gone sideways. It's like I’m trapped in a cruel story where the writer hates me.” Arya said dramatically, wiping an imaginary tear from her eyes, making Kane chuckle at her antics.

“That's nonsense. You are just working too much. Let's search for Marco’s notebook. It should be somewhere around his desk.” Kane said, and Arya nodded as she went to open the drawers one by one, but there was nothing interesting aside from a stapler and some cigarettes hidden in a pencil case. On the shelves, there were just folders of different clients and a picture of young Marco pointing surprised at a sports car.

‘Oh, look, another gearhead like Kane.’ Arya mused silently as she moved the keyboard, and then found a note underneath it, which doesn't make sense to her. She turned around, and showed it to Kane. “I found this note.” Arya said, handing him the piece of paper which read, “Evelyn - Evelyn - Evelyn.”

Kane scowled and said, “All right, unless Marco is an idiot, we may have to bang our heads against this for a while.” Arya sighed, went to the safe and punched Evelyn on the safe dial and it opened, stunning her and Kane.

“Okay, maybe we should organize one of those workshops about corporate security.” Kane said, and Arya nodded.

"I’m starting to think if we really have a mole or just crappy safe measures.” Arya said, and started taking pictures of all the documents that she needed.

“Anyway, this is pretty cool. It feels exactly like spy mov-—-” Kane trailed off when they heard footsteps approaching in the corridor. “Shit! It's Marco.” He cursed,

‘If Marco finds me here with Kane, we’ll be screwed, and the project could seriously fail.’ Arya mused, and looked hurriedly at Kane, “Kane, you need to go! Now!”

“Where?" Kane asked, looking at her Incredulously.

“Get to the window and get out.” Arya said, and dragged Kane along with her as she opened the window.

“The things you make me do, Arya. No one could ever make me!" Kane said begrudgingly, and Arya batted her lashes at him, and blinked her eyes wide open like a puppy, and Kane scowled as he climbed the window, and jumped on the sill. Just then, the steps in the corridor stopped right at the door.
“What about you? You won't make it.” Kane asked, as the doorknob started turning.

“Don't worry about me. I have an idea.” Arya said, and Kane nodded as he blew her a kiss, and jumped outside, Arya closed the window, and the door to the office opened.

“What…. What the hell are you doing in my office?” Marco asked with a frown, as he looked at Arya with narrowed eyes.

“Well…I….” Arya stammered shyly, and straightened her clothes, fixed her hair and fanned herself with her hand. “I might just have had sex in the director's office."

"What?” Marco exclaimed, completely taken aback by her words.

“I'm sorry. It was an old fantasy of mine, but I was never in the position to, you know. I hope you don't mind.” She asked, flashing him her best smile.

"Well…. I can't say I’m thrilled by the idea of my office being used as —--” Marco said, and trailed off, looking around the room, even glancing under the desk. “Where's the guy, by the way?" He asked, curiously.

"Who said it was a guy?” Arya said, and all the color drained from Marco's face, Arya couldn't help but burst into laughter when she saw his expression. “Haha, all right. I was just teasing you. He’s just jumped out of the window.” She responded, and mused, ‘I didn't even have to lie about that.’

“Well…. I'm still not thrilled about my poor office, but I appreciate the romantic passion. It's very Romeo and Juliet.” Marco remarked, and Arya grinned.

"I can only imagine how many lucky dates this office has seen." She teased, and Marco's eyes dimmed at her words.

“You are way too optimistic, but my only date is to work.” Marco replied, his eyes sad and empty that Arya couldn't help but feel bad for him.

“Marco, are you okay? You didn't sound very happy.” Arya asked softly,

“You know, I like my job. It keeps me from getting lost in the world.” Marco said, and Arya raised her brows.

"That's it?”

Marco shrugged, "A lot of people don't even have that."

“But what about love?" Arya asked, tilting her head to the side.

“I thought I knew about love a while back, but I was wrong so It's better to stick to the things you are good at.” Marco said, smiling but his smile was a sad one. He continued, “But If you have love, hold on to it whatever it takes, because it's a hard currency to come by.”

Arya noticed all defenses crumpling down, and she decided to encourage him, “For a good looking devil with a good heart I’d say you are far too pessimistic. Mark my words, you will eventually find love.” she said, and gave him a light punch on the shoulder, with a friendly smile on her face.

Marco rubbed his shoulder with a smile and nodded at her, “If you say so.”

"Hey, you can't dismiss me with a ‘If you say so’ My granny was a badass shady gipsy. I know what's in the future.” Arya said with a small laugh, and Marco grinned at her.

“What a coincidence. My granny was a witch, and I know the future as well. And yours is pretty clear right now.” He said, and Arya giggled at him.

“Funny. I’ll leave you to your work. I have to go.” Arya said, and Marco nodded.

"Go in peace, child, and try not to sin again tonight.” Marco said, making Arya giggled once again at him. She bowed respectfully to him while walking backward towards the door.

“Yes, father. I beg your forgiveness.” Arya said, and there was a long moment of silence before they both started laughing. Arya had just opened the door when Marco called out to her.

“Arya." He said, and she turned to look at him.

“Yes?"

Marco smiled sincerely at her, and said, “Thank you." Arya nodded as she gave him a small smile, and finally left his office with the pictures of the documents she needed, and a little more hope for the future of the whole operation.
